He was put in for the Medal of Honor three times; the last application is currently under review at the Pentagon. He was twice awarded the Army's second highest honor for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross, along with 10 Silver Stars and eight Bronze Stars. When asked about his many awards, he always said he was proudest of his eight Purple Hearts and his Combat Infantryman's Badge.

Wow this is a loss,
IIRC he was the most highly decorated LIVING vet.
I've read alot of his books and they are great.....especially about face.
RIP

to a great man.

Oh ****. It seemed like he was fading recently. Damm.
Gen. Creighton Abrams, the last American commander in that disastrous war, described him as "the best battalion commander I ever saw in the United States Army."

I've read two of his books, About Face, and Hazardous Duty. Great man.
-
I can't believe he was 74 years old. He seemed much younger than that.
-
Wow,
to a great American and a great man.
I wonder what will happen to his web site and Soldiers for truth now?
-
Would have liked to meet that man.
-
He was the best of the very best.

When I read hazardous duty I could not stop laughing about how he got the scoop during the gulf war.
He had a retired military ID card so that got him access to alot of things that regular reporters did not. When that didn't work he had an official looking letter signed by a fictitious General ordering all to give "hack" what ever assistance he needs.

A true hero.

R.I.P. hack
-
i didnt think he was close to 74..dam shame..Ilike that guy
Salute

Yeah, most people do not realize that he was in Europe in World War II, and actually met Ike.
I did not always agree with him, but I could always respect and understand his position.
He was an honest and loyal servant of his country, a patriot in the truest sense of the word.
