Police: Man defaced Virgin Mary image

The words 'big lie' are scrawled across the stain that some believe is an image of the Virgin Mary.
Some see Virgin Mary in underpass stain
CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- A man was arrested for allegedly scrawling the words "big lie" over a stain on an expressway underpass that some believed was an image of the Virgin Mary.
Authorities then painted over the stain because it had been defaced, police spokesman David Banks said Friday.
Authorities charged Victor Gonzalez, 37, of Chicago, Illinois, with criminal damage to state property, a misdemeanor. Witnesses had seen him painting the image, Banks said. A telephone listing for Gonzalez could not immediately be found.
A steady stream of the faithful and the curious, many carrying flowers and candles, had flocked to the emergency turnoff area under the Kennedy Expressway since last month. On Friday, some people gathered at the site and expressed sorrow.
The stain was likely the result of salt runoff, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Worldwide, people have been drawn to images believed to resemble the Virgin Mary seen on windows, fence posts and walls.
One of the best known was an image on windows of an office building in Clearwater, Florida, that drew hundreds of thousands of viewers after it was spotted in 1996. Experts said the image was created by corrosion. The windows were shattered last year, and a teenage boy pleaded guilty to felony criminal mischief and sentenced to 10 days in jail.

I think I would have just cleaned the stain away using a bucket of CLR and a high-density short-hair bristle brush.
At least that way, I would have been doing community service, rather than being a vandle doing graphitti

This sentence just sounds wrong for some reason. Defacing a stain? Defacing and stain just don't belong together.
I hope the good policemen of Chicago don't play favorites here....I'm assuming they arrest everyone who defaces stains in Chicago? Criminal Damage to State Property....those graffiti lovers better watch out, Chicago cops are close behind you, watching always.

If I'd have to say what it resembles, it'd look like the grim reaper.

The neat thing is that since the kid who broke the windows is guilty of a felony, he may never be able to own or handle a firearm. Throw rocks at an abandoned house, become a felon and lose your constitutional rights! Yaaay congress, yaaay supreme court!
Same thing with an uncle of mine. He drove drunk and wrecked into a parked car. There was someone in that parked car. Normally that's still a misdemeanor punishable by tons of jail time, but this parked car happened to be a police cruiser so he gets nailed with felony assault of a peace officer. So he had to turn in or give away thousands of dollars of premium hunting gear he had. His whole life was hunting.
Sure he needed jail time for what he did, needed to compensate the victim, but take away his hunting rifles and shotguns? The guy had never comitted an intentional violent crime in his life. Did they remove his ability to become a repeat offender by taking his car or license? Of course not. He would have rather given up his drivers license for life rather than his ability to go hunting. But the great state of California of course gave him his license back almost immediately and took his guns instead.
The fact is that the US government is scared shxtless about the idea of an armed citizenry, and there are many powerful people who will do anything they can to make US citizens powerless to defend themselves against criminals, invaders, or oppressive government. It's essentially taking the declaration of independence, wrapping it up in the constitution, and lighting the whole thing on fire.
Someone remind me what oath I took, and who's the greatest threat to the constitution? Who has done the most damage to constitutional rights in the last couple of decades? It sure as hell isn't bin laden and his merry band.
Better yet, don't remind me.

In that case I'll deface it with some pink paint in certain places and make some modern art.

I have shirt with a stain that looks like the virgin Mary. I'm afraid to fall asleep it now. I might wake up with candles on my chest.
I wonder if these people are connisoures of fine stains? I wonder if they collect them or something? Maybe they have skid marked underwear hanging on their walls. What if they found a pile of dog poo that looked like the virgin Mary?
I've been looking in the DSMIII, but I still can't figure out what mental illness this falls under. I'm stumped!

It was a turnoff lane for traffic. Which is definitely not the best place for large crowd gatherings.
