Title: US national anthem played at Changing of the Guard...
Post by: Dowding on September 13, 2001, 03:54:00 PM
A crowd of 35,000 gathered outside Buckingham Palace to pay their respects.

Unprecedented gesture (http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/newsid_1542000/1542446.stm)

Also, tommorow there is to be a minute silence in most towns across Britain.

Like our Prime Minister says, we stand 'Shoulder to Shoulder' against those responsible.

These cerimonies aren't being percieved as merely gestures.  They are acts of solidarity.

This type of scene goes to great lengths to strengthen resolve and help everyone focus on the task at hand.

Say thankyou to everyone you know Dowding... from me and everyone I know.

Dowding,

Thank you. These actions speak so much more eloquently than mere words in a speech.

Hey, I have a request. You guys did such a great job with that one, could we have one more?  ... just in case Osama, the Taliban leaders, and Saddam are listening to BBC...

Do you think you could play an old George M. Cohan song, dedicated to Bin Laden, the Taliban  and Hussein at the next Changing of the Guard?

Chorus goes like this:

"Over there, over there,
Send the word, send the word over there--
That the Yanks are coming,
The Yanks are coming,
The drums rum-tumming
Ev'rywhere.
So prepare, say a pray'r,
Send the word, send the word to beware.
We'll be over, we're coming over,
And we won't come back till it's over
Over there.
"

Won't be to Europe this time; we've got another locale in mind.

Thanks in advance!

Dang forum bug...

But I guess I can add something relevant to this... Tomorrow has been declared a national day of mourning in Canada. The same type of ceremony will be taking place in our nation's capital. Kinda nice to see the world come together like this.

Today, Friday 14 September there was a 3 minute silence held at 11:00am BST (GMT+1) started by the Queen of England.

This would have been held at all government, military establishments, and all schools etc. in Great Britain, plus all the millions that wished to take part in this rememberance.

Salute all

It's not derogatory for me it's just an other meaning of the word.

It wasn't derogatory, it is a matter of slang - if you noticed it was signed 'Cockneys' which is a term used for real Londoners.  i.e. their slang for Americans was signed by their slang for Londoners.

Yank isn't derogatory at all. It's an accolade. It's who we are.

We were Yanks in '18.

We were Yanks in '44.

We ARE Yanks.

Again, thanks to you lot!

I hope we really do stand together and watch as the enemies of justice and freedom are blown into tiny indistiguishable bits by cruise missiles and smart bombs...oh...and highly trained comandos.

It was derogartory only once in US history, during our civil war.  The Rebels in the South called us that.

Today we call each other Yankees and Southern Rebels all the time in jokes.  Hell, one of our baseball teams is called Yankees.  Go ahead.  Use it as often and as much as you like.

Back to the real issue here though.  It seems Britain is definetly on our side, and may commit troops to any sort of war if one breaks out (thats iffy right now, with leanings towards there not being one...but...).

Its the rest of Europe that I am worried about.  I hope that they don't forget us.  The more people that show up for something like this, the better.

At least.....at least....help us with something else, like rebuilding the Trade Towers (controversial discussions, but we are having them).
