Title: PS 5.0 won't open 24bit bmps
Post by: Krusty on May 08, 2005, 05:13:14 PM
Anybody know why my photoshop doesn't know how to open 24-bit bitmaps? It can save AS 24 bits.. but it sure as heck won't open them. It's a pain in the bellybutton when trying to edit AH screenshots (which are.. you guessed it! -- 24 bits)

They're not 24 bit they're 32 bit, Open them with MS Paint, make some kind of a change then save as 24 bit, then you can open them with photoshop 5. (Or better yet get PS 7 or 8)

I open the BMPs in MS Paint (default) and save AS, select 24 bit, but then it saves as 32 bit anyways! What's the deal???

Is there any fast and simple file converter to change 32bit BMPs to 24 bit BMPs?

you have to change something...

make a 1 pixel dot, then erase it.

THEN save 24 bit

That's a long way of doing it... I ended up just opening file, ctrl a (select all), alt e (edit menu) o (copy to...) then saving as a new file. That worked, and was easier once you got into the rhythm of it. Had to do that a lot for my new AH maps list webpage (all the graphics were screenshots).
