Title: TrueKill
Post by: mechanic on May 09, 2005, 06:02:31 PM
ok, so heres is what happened in our CT fight.

I was La5, and you were 109F

you dive from 10k on me. I am at 3k.

as you close to 1000yrds you might have a top speed of 430mph?

at 800yrds i dive vertically down to 500ft, bringing my speed up to about 420mph.

a slight scissor to the right and you overshoot and miss your shot.

now, with absolutely no hard movements i roll back to the left and am on your tail at 600yrds.

our speeds are now equal at 400mph as you have lost E pulling up to hard, and i have smoothly followed you up.

the 109F has an awesome climb rate, but so does the La5.

We climb in this manner for about 2,500ft as you atempt to rope me.

you stall out 600yrds ahead of me and i react to this by judging where your going to fall past me. I n making this judgement i have a projected view of my gun solution and i kick hard on my rudder and line up for where you will pass me in a few seconds.

as you whizz by now travelling 10 times faster than me i grab a snapshot from 20 yrds right in your canopy.

simple physics mate :)

PS: why do i always get discoed after i shoot you down and you log off? :p

no, no.

there wasnt much verbage.

i just find it all too common that people say....

" i Dived from 10k on you at 2k and then you manage to follow me up in my rope??? That is just uber, totaly porked. stupid modeling there is no way that is possible"

now i just wanted to explain it in a form longer and more simple than the in-game chat buffer.

what we have to remember is....

it doesnt matter how 'high' you are when you start your attack. You aircraft can only go to its top speed. the majority of that 10k is wasted as you have to burn off your speed so as not to destroy/compress in the dive.

then add to this the fact that the plane you attack may 'present itself' as an easy target, when in reality the opponent is just equalising your E advantage.

while i am diving and gaining lots of speed, you are following and not gaining any speed, you are already maxed out.

so..... at the bottom of the dive, when we start to climb again, we are in much more equal E states than if the low aircraft had flat turned or pull up into the challenge.

maybe this should be in the help forum.

well for a new pilot there is nothing wrong with it.

An experienced pilot should be flying a more difficult plane.

Kind of like if you go into a pool hall and beat all the best shooters in there with a bent house cue and a crappy tip.

I has a similiar encounter in the MA with 86er the other night.  I was about 14k and encountered him around 12k flying a La7.  As soon as he saw me, he entered into a dive to the deck but I kept my altitude and turned for an interception angle.  As he was drawing closer because of the interception angle course I had set, I kicked in my WEP and unloaded my plane by pushing 0 Gs to accelerate my plane as fast as possible.  This allowed me to close and chase him as he kept on running to his base and friends.  I caught him as he tried to maneuver at tree level and quickly seperated his wing from his plane for the kill.  He then proceeded to launch a tirade about it on open channel.  Funny thing is, had he stayed level and didn't dive like he did I would have never had caught him.  By going into the dive he did, allowed me to set up a course to intercept him and unloading my plane at the right moment allowed me to gain the speed I needed to chase him down.

in any given situation you can very easily throw away a huge advantage just from a few seconds of pilot error.

S! mates!

still causing trouble? hehe

Uber Doltz rule!

but ya wrong about the lala5 :)  it is rather uber :) more so than a spit5 because it affords the advantage of escape.

My two favorite planes at the moment are the P40E and the P47D11

for once you yanks made a few planes that rock :)

oh...the P38 and F4u are pretty neat too i spose.

Are you on crack?  The la5 is a better plane than the La7 IMO.  Uber Russian rocket that pwns in the vertical and can totally dominate a fight with anything up to the late war monsters.  An la5 should whup a spitV if the pilots are equal.

LOL ethics...

Maybe one day, players like you will get a clue that it's not the plane but the pilot.  After all, it's the pilot that tells the plane what to do, not vice versa.

Still dont get it....
I'd rather fly what I like and master it rather than just being medicore in something I dont like.

Every plane has it own quirks and characteristics...... Strenghts and weakness.

You couldnt take your knowlege of a Zero and make yourself a better Typhoon pilot   (unless you were fighting a zero)

Just two totally different ways to fight the planes

Personally I fly the 2 planes I like and try to master them to the best of thier ability.

Nothing wrong with the way you're doing it but that is another reason I switch it up and fly planes that are sub-par or I'm sub-par in. Know thine enemy :)

I understand that it is the pilot, which is only furthering my point. I try to make myself a better pilot by learning other planes so I can fly against them and when I get in a plane I am better in, it feels like a weight is lifted and I fly even better than I did before.

I was trying to be neutral about it, like I said, I don't care how everyone else does what they do. This is just what works for ME. There was absolutely no need whatsoever for your derision, drive through to the next window please.

You have a lot to learn...

Todays Homework : -

Look at the above statement again and explain why that is wrong.  How can using the experience learnt in a slow turnfighter benefit you in an e-fighter?
Title: TrueKill
Post by: plank on May 10, 2005, 04:17:41 PM
If that's directed toward me furball I only meant learn the plane so you can fly against it, know it's limits and such.

Edit: Yes, I have a lot to learn, I have NEVER stated otherwise. I am the worst virtual pilot I know and my progress is slower than anyone's in existence. Does that cover everything? :p

So,... pilots, like Bong, Gentile, Gabreski should have not been using thier P-38's, 47's, and 51's, but should have left those for the new pilots, while they flew the entire war in something like Brewster Buffalo's.

The more experienced pilots fly the more difficult planes.

In my view anyone who flies a difficult plane because it is, is insane.  Why fly a plane you have no affinity for?  I fly the mossie not because it's anymore difficult, but because i love it, i have lots of fun flying it.  I die enough times, but it is damn fun.:)   Doesn't stop me from hopping in a spit though.

What makes a plane difficult?  It's not easy to quantify using a single performance characteristic.  Does lesser turning ability make it more difficult?  That only poses a problem if you have not acquired enough experience to overcome it.  The majority of moves in one plane can be transfered to another.

I am sure he knows what a being a "baby seal" is all about.

Coming from someone who spends 95% of his on line time in GV's... He has to.

Edit:Just under 70 hours in a tank a few tours back as a matter of fact.

I dont think I've had 70 hours in a full year.. Or 70 hours my entire time with Aces High even for that matter in a GV.

The P-38G has a better climb and stall rate over what?  And if you do fly the P-38G, you don't do very well in it.  Out of curiosity, I checked to see how many kills you've gotten in it and the only thing that shows is 5 kills back in Tour 61 and you had more deaths in the P-38G than kills.  Personally, you should think of sticking with GVs as you seem to have better luck in them.

And not to be mean or anything but you're the classic example of what we call a baby seal.

But you still never answered my question, to which plane were you comparing the climb and stall rate of the P-38G against?

While rank stats and score might not mean a thing but your kill record does give a pretty good indicator of how well you do in a particular plane.  And unfortunately for you, it seems that you get shot down more than you shoot down except when it comes to GVs which you have a decent record in.

Lol , I don't have any secrets. (re:trim) I can tell you that basically the only time I use manual trim is to pull out of  compressed dive. I am very lazy, and the planes I fly all seem to go OK with combat trim .  (I do use manual if I fly KI-84 and P-38 sometimes , but to be honest I can hardly tell the difference)

My point was , I think there are much more important things for new guys to learn than manual trim - it's just another distraction for them.

And in regard to fighting and DA etc , I'll fight anyone for fun , sometimes I win , sometimes I lose, cest la vie

this 6th month noob would destroy you...

obviously you spend alot of time on this game and you still suck in a fighter. Point is don't need alot of time to get where you are...average...

anytime you think your ready you let me know and i'll be happy to smack you around in DA.

Here that Lev, Morph, Furball, Edbert, Sniper, WldThng... You guys have been playing too long to be using that crutch of a spitV, why don't you try a real man's plane?  Everyone knows that your skillz can't possibly overflow to a different plane...geesh

Why don't you guys give a tiger tank a try, I hear there is major skill needed to get kills in one of those :aok

Everyone knows all you spitV drivers are just stick stirrers.  Forget the fact that you guys get 15+ kills per hour, if you didn't have that thing to stick stir in, you'd know what it is like to be a REAL pilot.  And while you're at it, you guys should hang out with the l33t six guys who make up the CT continget and really learn how to fly   :D

Let me know if you can't see the sarcasm tags embedded in this message  =)

Your kill stats don't reflect that. You've been shot down more in fighters than fighters you've shot down.   So while your efforts to train new players is commendable, in reality new players would be better off being trained by the drones than by you.

Well that second part doesn't take much effort apparently.

If they are dueling 38's, the odds are much worse than 7/2 against Klink.  Unless you make ack-ack fight with full fuel, bomb load, rockets, and make him tow a c47 while duelling, I don't think Klink has a chance   :D
