I've been watching The Dog Whisperer (http://www.nationalgeographic.com/channel/dogwhisperer/) on the NGC.
It seems that more often than not, the dogs all have similar problems, but it's fun to watch.

Thanks SANDMAN! i need all the help i can get with my mutt. I got him like 3rd/4th hand and he was abused + lord knows what happend. Vet says hes 3/4 years old and i finally got him fixed (he hates me for that) but it had to be done, he was getting agressive to the one neighbor (funny hes never been that way to anyone even kids) the dog is really mostly affraid of people(the abuse) but man he loves other dogs cats, if its an animal he like em!~ but he needs to be trained and hasnt had much work or for all i know hes used to russian. LOL
but thanks

They have the standard disclaimer, but it seems that the common theme is to put the dog in it's place and make sure it realizes that it's not the alpha. Nothing violent, just Millan showing the different ways to establish and maintain dominance.
They occasionally run mini-marathons on NGC... it's worth watching, you might find out what to do (or not to do).

Yah know,
Saw a bit of the dog whisperer the other day, and what amazed me most were the dog owners who had no clue how to effect basic behavior modification with their animals or were allowing a dog to rule their home.
Seemed in the cases I saw that a wise and consistent application of a rolled up newspaper would have done the trick. It's rather like the series "the Nanny" which drives my wife and I berserk. I can't tell you how many times watching that we've turned to each other and said something along the lines of "Do my eyes deceive me or did they just let that child get away with saying what he said to them? What is wrong with these people? Where they raised by wolves? Get the spoon out you nitwits."

I watch it as well, ussually with our 3 cats.
After the show I warn the cats, "behave or your getting shipped to where all those dogs live!"
Seems to be working!
Most dogs actually live to please there master. Its just a matter of putting it so they can understand whats expected.
Once they "get" it, its not hard at all.
Its getting the idea's & concepts across thats time consuming.

unless you've been in a war or owned a dog, can you really say you have had a loyal and true friend.
