Title: Flying car?
Post by: StarOfAfrica2 on May 11, 2005, 12:31:04 PM
35mph on the ground, 350mph in the air, and 28 mpg while flying.  So far only been tested on a tether, but its passed every FAA test its been given.  Estimated cost when production begins, average of a midsize luxury car.

I'm sure someone has seen it before, but thought I'd share.  :)

Is that an elaborate hoax?  If so I was hooked easily.  I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

Ya, I was assuming they would force manufacturer to put a governor on it.  Then we'd all buy aftermarket kits.  :)

If you look through some of the other "vehicles" this guy has made, he holds several patents on VTOL "cars" for either 1 or 2 people, stretching all the way back to the mid 60s.

This current one runs on pump gas, is darn near quiet enough now to operate in public, and if his previous projects are any indication, he will pass all the FAA required testing with flying colors (no pun intended lol).  He already has buyers lined up for the first few at 1 mil per, but wants to mass produce them.

Did you watch the videos?  It already has gotten off the ground.  It's already flown, although tethered.

Mass production would not be allowed until first the military and police make good use of them, and new laws are drawn up.

Total BS, those videos show only hover.

After all these years you would think he would get in some real flights.

And no I dont buy it that the FAA isnt allowing him to fly it, just loom at all the private experimental planes and choppers these days. Or just look at half the bizzaqre things Rutan putsup.

As far as I care all Moler now has is a neat hovertoy.

But they say they will do flight tests soon, and inm Dixon california of all places. Maybe I can visit lazs and see this thing fly sometime in a single day. :)

Very small wings = must go fast or crash OR use V/lift and use ALOT of power and much fuel----  How many MPG with the high speed drag of the power pods at 350 mpg  hmmmm??

I know that it takes a LOT of power for V/lift so it must have a lot of power, the question is how much fuel and how does it deal with the weight. What is its range?

I just don't think it meets its hype if it did they would be flying for some goverment agency or another somewhere.

I just dont trust everything I read, as I have here it said if it dont look right it wont fly right.

Moller has been at it for decades, a LOT longer then 10 years.  Don't get your hopes up just yet.  I'm pretty sure I have an old  Popular Mechanics somewhere with drawings of his stuff on the cover ("Just around the corner!  Be first on your block to own a '79 Moller!")

you could get a turbine legend kit & be doing those numbers much sooner, if you could find about 20kts of wind going down a runway

The FAA is currently working on certification.
Boeing has been approached on, and is studying the feasibility of, mass production.
It is likely that it will first fly in Asia, Korea has a web site dedicated to Molier's aircar.
Japan wants in, the state of California has pre orders in.
In '79 they were predicting 15 years or more, it has taken longer.

Preorder contracts expire Dec. 31st 2006 so look for something big to happen before that date ... don't know if it will be go or no but something has to happen.

Look here also.

Ok... this guy has lived down the road from me for years.  He has never built a flying car.   The pictures of the one on the website are a fiberglass shell with no guts at all... A local bodyshop here built and painted it for display.   There is nothing about the shell that could be used to make an aircar.

He is rumored to have people lined up to buy this shell that is incapable of flight.   He is rumored to have em lined up for a million plus each....

production was to be started 3 years ago now in the huge factory that he was negotiating buying the land for from my city.   It kinda is dragging a little since he has not done anthing toward making it happen except talk about it and...

have the very nicely painted shell built that he can display.

He has made several flying lawnmowers over the years that struggle around on a tether.

I believe that he knows that people would like to believe as much as he does.

The main source of his income is that he was a land speculator in Davis.
