Killing time on a day off today and looked at my stats for the first time. Something stood out to me.
I'm average at best and spend the majority of my time in a P38G. 107 kills, 72 deaths so far.
But what stood out was the LA7. I know we grumble about em, but if I'm any indication, bring em on. I've died 3 times to LA7s and killed 16 of them. Not sure what that says since I know I'm not running em down in a P38G.
Only plane close is the Spit V where I've killed 17, but I've died 13 times to Spit Vs.
Now I know that's skewed a bit because it's been guys like Lev and Morph in the Spit Vs, but it would seem to me it speaks to the caliber of the majority of LA7 drivers if someone who sucks like I do can have that much of a disparity in kills to deaths against one plane type.

Guppy, these planes are usually the only planes to kill me in double figures:
109G-10
P51-D
N1K2
la7 (over 20)
spits (all models usually over 30)
Typhoon
other than these a well flown yak is a tough one for me.

According to the majority of the dweebs I've shot down, I thoroughly suck but my stats pretty much reflect the same thing. Of the Big Four (Spit 9, La7, N1K2, P-51D and FW-190D9) my kill ratio is almost 3 to 1 or greater. That's why I'm in the camp that firmly believes these planes are no better or worse than any other plane in the game. That's why I laugh when I see threads about perking any of the Big Four.

Those are the easiest planes in the inventory to fly and therefore, you will see them the most.

Maybe I'm skewed this tour, but I have 85 kills and 23 deaths, but the top 3 on my kill list are:
P51-D -> 11
N1k2 -> 7
P38L -> 6
HurriMk2 -> 6
The 38 and the hurri surprised me. Last tour was this:
205/65
Spit9 -> 19
N1k -> 19
La7 -> 18
spit5 -> 11
Maybe it'll even out by the end of the tour...

Despite how "easy" the LA7 is to fly, getting anything good out of it besides speed requires a substantial amount of skill. To be a threat in the la7 you have to know when to cut throttle, and because of it's engine performance that works out to be pretty much always. If an la7 pilot doesn't have a HOTAS setup he probably isn't going to stand up to something like the P38, which can usually scissor it's way inside without ever giving up a shot. Also consider that while your 38 isn't very fast, it's guns package is one of the best in the game. Most la7 pilots just hope you can't shoot well while they run away, so when a no convergence plane like the 38 comes along they usually have no viable defensive moves. Dweebs in spits tend to be a little more useful at killing 1 guy, which is why your K/D is probably a little lower against them. They may suck but their plane is actually capable of following yours, unlike a dweeb in the lavoch. They arn't as common anymore however, as shooting something from a spitV that isn't high AoT close range deflection is pretty hard. I've gotten away from the likes of Levi's spitV just leveling out and running with him d400 back. Thus la7=good for dweebs who want to kill dweebs, bad for dweebs who want to kill aces. SpitV=good for dweebs who want to kill aces, bad for dweebs who want to kill dweebs.

I dont think that the ratio is going to help much because thats what most people fly. You dont really say any other planes besides 109s (all models), 190s (all models), la7s, 51s, and spits (all models), and see occasionly 38s, typhs, yaks and niks. Just thinking that more people new to game are flying those planes because they are noob planes and those planes are easy to kill because to me they seem like they have no armor on their plane to my 38 guns. But all the planes except for the spits all run like hell, and dont even bothering engaging after making 1 pass on someone and just leaving him out to dry. As I see more and more people though join AH, you see them fly those few planes and they all going to suck becaues they are new.

La-7s are a threat, but a low scoring one indeed. What usually happens in the MA is the 'mix-up' effect. The La-7s themselves aren't much of a threat, since rarely a good pilot is seen in it.
However, they prevent you from leaving the area alive if you are in a slow plane. Same with Fw190Ds or G-10s or P-51s. Usually these dragsters make you turn and keep you from running away until the slower turners like the Spits, P-38Gs, Hurricanes, and etc.. finally arrive at the scene and finish you off.
Thus, ALL of the SA judgements in the MA, is always based on the La-7. I could be around zillion coalt Spitfires and still feel safe in a Fw190A-8. However, just 1 La-7 in that mix and I'd run away like crazy. No chance at all. (Unless the Drex is with me and shoot all of them down myself.. :D)
If you are around bad odds and your plane doesn't have enough E to escape the LA, at least until you reach the safety of homebase, you're screwed.

And the second you truly start believing that is about the time Shane comes streaking in out of nowhere and blasts you into smoking pieces as he zooms back up into the stratosphere and flys away hunting his next victim.

How can that be?
I thought he never runs, cherrypicks, exploits alt/E advantage or rides monsterplanes!
:D

Last time I was unlucky enough to run into him, I had just made a pass on an enemy and was pulling up, watching his wing seperate from his plane and saw a flash of red cowling and guns firing in the forward view a second before ending up back in the tower with the words "Shane shot you down" on my screen.

I really do miss innom8's career stats. (disabled as long as stat inquirees are limited to once per minute) Ive always noticed for myself that k/d aginst a plane type fluxuates quite a bit from tour to tour. Ive seen ratios greater than 20 against a particular fighter, and that same ratio is lower than 5 the following tour. Career averages are a much better sample to draw conclusions from.
Only 21 hops this tour so far, 60 kills 6 deaths... vs La7 only 6/2 (1 ganging, 1 crippled rtb interuption). Probably near my overall average aginst La7s. I could turn your conclusion around and say you are teh l33t with 5.3:1 vs. La7s and I is the pwned with a measly 3:1. ;)
