out having a smoke, i work as a contractor at a hospital
there are 2 guys out there talking about some guy that just died here.
seems he was jumped by 3 guys, taken into a car, shot, then thrown out of the moving car.
in their words "some white guy" saw the victim get thrown out, but didnt get a plate, just knows it is a red car.
the girlfriend of the victim was just arrested here in the hospital they said, because she was not telling the police who did it.
these 2 outside talking said they knew who did it.
"her baby's daddy's 3 friends"
the seemed to know an awful lot about who did it, and it started me thinking.
here are 2 guys, they never said anything to the effect of revenge, but at the same time, if the police arrested the GF for not giving the full story, what about these guys?
do i know information about a murder case that is being withheld?
do i tell someone? (besides you all here)
im kind of uncomfortable about the whole situation. these guys looked pretty hard core, both had black rags showing, and i have no clue who they were or where they are. but if i went and for example told the police what i overheard them saying, and i putting myself in trouble? i dont have the ability to take off work to give a statement or anything like that. i guess i dont know what to do.
ps i was the only other person outside in the smoking lounge at the time

Dont know about you... but if i was in your situation...
my conscience would not let me keep quiet about it. some poor guys been murdered, you have some info that might bring his murderers to justice. Up to you though, i am saying that in the comfort of my home, thousands of miles away without the implications of going to the police.
It really is your call.

Oh, so you're a coward.

Drop a dime and call the local "Crime Stoppers" tip line, you don't have to leave your name and don't have to be interviewed unless you want to.
The info you have may not be very much but it might be enough for the locals to use in follow up interviews and so on with the victims girlfriend and such.
Take all of 2 minutes to make the call...
-
See if the local police have a Tips line... give all the info you can and still maintain your anominity. Or just call the police station and inquire about the murder then tell them what you know and you want to remain anonymos...
Either way will work. Or you can just live with yourself knowing that they got away with it.... yer a Rook right?
Mac

Do it anonymously because if you make an error (or they get off), they can come back and sue you for it.
-
cc on the tip line, didn't think of that. i will do that tonight when i get home. just saw the 2 guys in the cafeteria now.
awmac nope, knight
and no thrawn im not a coward, but you are an ass, thats pretty obvious to see.
-
awmac nope, knight
WTG on the tips call... and I was only kidding about the Rook thingy...
:aok
*edit* You're typing from the cafeteria?
-
I work in a hospital and some jerk made a comment about a bomb in the washroom, should I report it to the authorities?
but you are an ass, thats pretty obvious to see.
You're probably right.
-
no mac i just went there (down the hall) to get a soda
thrawn... do you remember a single detail about that story? i overheard 2 people talking about a criminal act.
other situation i told 2 coworkers i laid a nasty poo, one of them didn't get the joke (he's quite dense).
oh well, i wont bother with it anymore, just another to the big 'ol ignore list of morons

No, but if it was worth mentioning, you might want to inform the EPA. A stinker that bad could cause all kinds of problems if not flushed properly.

And I can't believe you are having a moral dilema about whether or not to inform the police. Someone has been freaking murdered dude, and you have information that could help the police get some murders off the street, and you have to come here to know what to do?

Are you fellas living in the 50's with POTS network (Plain ole telephone system)
all calls on todays phone system are able to be traced.. Mandated by congress a while ago.. (hence the voice over IP debates/mandates etc in congress now) If they want to find you, you are not anonomous. (As proof note your nice little phone bill every month records every call, now apply that to their end.. or watch some court TV; the suprised look on peoples faces when legal teams start throwing phone evidence around..(pen taps, traces, voice mail taps etc..) protect yourself.. but i would give whatever info you got, could lead to cracking the case... sounds serious with murder, even thug life murder deserves justice)
just FYI
digital world we live in cuts like a double edged sword..

DYO, sure they can find you, but if you state you wish to remain anonymous, they cannot even subpoena you for information.
It is important to remain anonymous in these situations as they can come back to haunt you in the form of civil lawsuits.

Put on an old shirt. large hat (never know were a vid cam might be) and go to a pay phone at the bus station or something if it will make you feel better.
Oh and what Scuzzy said also

Well I do agree with some of what your saying here...thus the term "drop a dime" (though may relate back to the day when it only cost a dime to make a call from a pay phone), I was not suggesting he call from home but from a pay phone, or even the hospital where he is working at...
And while it is true that most phone systems can be traced and "tapped" as required by the CALEA standards the police require judicial authorization to conduct such traces and taps. This in it self is not an easy task and the burden is on the police to justify the intercept. In regards to VOIP, I would imagine the arguments in your congress are over whether or not to make them meet the CALEA standards, same thing going on in Canada as well.
Also, a side note, most police "Crime Stoppers" or "TIPS" lines do not subscribe to call display and it is highly unlikely that they would attempt to identify a tipster, by doing so they would jeopardize their whole crime stoppers program and would not likely get many more calls.
-
doesnt those tip lines give rewards on convictions? I think the one in tucson did.
-
Out having a smoke? My god how barbaric...

F'it... sqeeeeal like a pig!

It ain't important. The police investigators will determine if this lead is a dead end or not.

groin is right, you should quit smoking.
then you'll be able to afford a better class of whiskey

Dude you've watched too many Steven Segal movies. Cops do not arrest people for not telling them the full story. Seriously, where do you get this stuff?
