Yesterday I was watching one of our normal police chases. In Long Beach Ca, an armed man tried to evade police and stooped his vehicle in a shopping parking lot. With the news copter zoomed in it captured him with gun in hand being riddled with bullets as he feel to the ground. Then they sent the dog in and it tore him some. He died at hospital, but he looked dead at the scene.
-
Is Long Beach near Dixon?
-
Too bad we can't get more footage like that- it might do a world of good for some of our aspiring young criminal element to see what can happen if you steal cars, lead police on a 45 minute chase, and then pull a gun on them.
Good job and a big <> to the police officers who took this perp out.
-
I don't know why I keep picturing airhead wearing a tinfoil hat when he posted that...
-
I remember about 10 years or so ago they used to have live news feeds on satellites and one I watched was when a guy was fleeing the police and he eventually stole a truck with a girl in it and ran over an officer.
The news helicopter followed the whole thing and when the police lost the guy the news copter tried to raise the police on the radio but couldn't so the pilot decided to get in front of the truck so he couldn't get away.
When the police caught up they shot the sh|t out of the guy and after they pulled the girl out of the truck one deputy stuck a shotgun in the door and fired point blank.
The guy was probably already dead but they weren't taking any chances.

Obviously the Long Beach cops spend some time at the range.
Unlike their Compton counterparts.

Idiot.
Or as a student in my 4th grade class pronounced it when asking the teacher what it meant......eye-dot.
She told him she was looking at one :D

Well if hes lying in the truck with who the hell knows how many holes in him, aint a doctor in the world gonna save him. Plus some people like those on drugs function still when they should be dead.

Did I say that?

if i remember correctly or maybe this was another, the p/u was a sorta lime green 70's ford. the hostage was an old geezer, and they started to plug the driver even before the old timer was yanked out of the truck.
that was a kewl clip, and i think the first of its kind.
anyone that flees the scene in a vehicle endangering others should be shot on the spot, or at least severely beaten king style.

There was some guy in the states who got hit by the cops over a dozen times and survived.

Killing criminals is something I agree with. Violent criminals for the most part are monsters that cannot be rehabilitated. Everytime the cops in my city (Louisville KY) shoot a crackhead with a pistol, Reverend Al Sharpton comes to my city and leads protest.

heh this is nothing compare to 1997 melee at Bank of America in San Fernando Valley.

Oh wait. You said crackHEAD , not crackPOT.

Crackhead would mean they killed Marion Berry.

99.999% of the time, if the cops are shooting at you, you have done something very wrong.

If this IS the Denver chase, the Officer that was run over at 55 mph, was indentified by the foot still in his boot. He robbed a bank, stole two cars, and resorted to kidnapping.
Why didn't the POS criminal go too far?

Masherbrum,
Well.. an easy trigger finger isn't a good thing for a cop.
Might get innocents injured or killed, or even fellow cops.
Guns should be only used as a last resort, regardless what the criminal had done.
Shooting at an incapacitated criminal with a shotgun is a little hard to explain with anything but to make sure the guy gets what he deserves.
The cops do not exist to be the judge and jury, they exist to maintain the law.
I don't think the law gave them the right to make sure the criminal is dead.
Otherwise they could just as well use a rocket to stop the fleeing criminals, would make it easier.
Or shoot the criminals on the spot, without questions asked.

IF this is the Denver chase we're talking about, he was still holding a loaded gun. Sorry, it was justifiable. Again, the Denver one, if you all are talking about something else, please disregard.
Again, he attempted to rob a bank (Federal offense), stole two cars (Felony), and Kidnapped (Felony). He was f**ked anyways.

It was pretty much talking in general, a reply to the opinions like "he (a criminal) did it, he deserved to be shot".
-
We trust our police officers (and normal citizens) to administer the death penalty in certain situations. Trust-based society vs. obedience-based society. If you don't like it, don't move here. :)

This guy deserved every bullet.

In the case of scumbags like this i totally disagree. Same thing for that case in Fallujah..."I saw him twitch and feared for my life sir".
to whichever officer acted with his Mossberg!

It's been so long ago I don't remember where it was.
BUT there was no way it was anything but an execution. The news only played a small part of it so if you didn't see the live feed you missed a lot.
Not that I blame them after what he did.

Jesse Jackson was just down here in St. Pete Fl. A Crackhead was shot in the back after failing to heed police instructions and reaching for something under the couch. A few days earlier a white guy was shot... but in this area no one seems to care. I am NOT a racist... but we have the Uhuru Headquarters here and things always get bad when a crackhead does something stupid and gets himself killed. They are the Black KKK. Lead by a very ignorant, angry, fellow.

Can't find the story, but I remember a Florida store or Gas station night clerk about 10 years ago who was shot at least 7 times in the head and survived. Not one bullet entered his skull. They all bounced off and the guy got himself to the hospital.
not 20 or 30, but remarkable anyway.

I can go 500 miles (800km) between refuelling stops. Just as well, as fuel here is about the most expensive in the world. It's just a tax on driving, collected at the pump.

Deputies Apologize for Firing 120 Rounds
Hail of Gunfire Damaged Houses, Sparked Fear in L.A. Neighborhood
By ALICIA CHANG, AP
LOS ANGELES (May 14) - Ten sheriff's deputies who fired 120 rounds at an unarmed driver at the end of a chase in a quiet neighborhood appeared with a lawyer who apologized to residents on their behalf, but said the officers had acted to capture a suspect who "deserved and needed to be stopped.''
Wearing suits and ties or dark sweaters, the deputies stood silently before news cameras Friday while lawyer Gregory Emerson explained that each had voluntarily told investigators what happened during Monday's videotaped shooting in Compton.
Emerson said the deputies didn't try to "harm or injure or otherwise jeopardize the safety of the individuals'' on the street where 44-year-old Winston Hayes was shot. Bullets penetrated several homes in the area.
"They're not hiding,'' Emerson told reporters. "They're honorable, decent individuals. They're proud professionals of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, and they're willing to stand up and tell the community that they do apologize.''
He said after the news conference, however, that "the apology wasn't for the shooting.''
"The apology was to residents in the area that were affected by that shooting,'' Emerson said. "If we could do it over again, we would take action to stop Mr. Hayes. Hopefully with better training we could do that to prevent shots into peoples' homes.''
The deputies fired 120 rounds in the early morning confrontation, striking Hayes four times and bruising one deputy who was hit in his bulletproof vest. Hayes is recovering at a hospital.
The barrage prompted outrage from some residents. Sheriff Lee Baca offered to double the typical payment for damages incurred.
After the news conference, Emerson said he spoke for the deputies because they were involved in criminal and departmental investigations stemming from the shooting, making it inappropriate for them to comment.
The shooting followed a brief pursuit. Some deputies thought Hayes, who was driving a sport utility vehicle, had shot two deputies while others thought he was trying to ram them, sheriff's officials said.
Emerson said that Hayes "deserved and needed to be stopped'' because deputies had been warned that he was a murder suspect.
Officials later said that Hayes was not involved in the shooting of the deputies, and he has not been charged with a crime.
One resident, Reyes Valencia, who saw the shooting that left a bullet hole in his wooden fence, said he doesn't accept the apology.
"I'm glad they did apologize. It's not going to change what they did,'' said the 41-year-old Valencia, who has lived on the block for 35 years. "The guy didn't have a gun. It's no reason to shoot the guy.''
Baca said 70 to 80 shots were fired during the first five seconds of the confrontation. He said he believes some deputies emptied their guns while others fired once or twice.
The deputies are undergoing counseling and will return to work, Baca said.

in time's "the gunfighters" it was claimed that he was hit 11 times.. this is the number I see the most often. He was allso reputed to be wearing a primitive form of bullet proof vest made of layers of brine cured buffalo hide. Many of the hits were birdshot from balck powder shotguns also.
I still feel that a .357 revolver is the best choice for police. If they can't master it then they should become a fireman or secretary.
