Title: Craftsman riding mower problem
Post by: Meatwad on May 13, 2005, 01:51:26 PM
Just found this out today

Mower wouldnt start due to what seemed a dead battery. When I recharged the battery and hooked up the terminals, it started buzzing from somewhere inside. When I disconnected the negative wire from the battery and then reconnected it, the mower started to crank over with the key switch in the "off" position AND without the key. Could the key switch be shorted or is there a more severe problem somewhere in the mower?

Sounds like a shorted ignition switch. Rare, but it happens.

check the two wires going into your starter motor. They probably crossed and shorted to each other. ... this most likely killed the battery too.
