I will give a brief synopsis of the planes that I use to earn perk points. Notice I did not say "earn perk points in " One should not end a sentence in a preposition.
P-38J: I advise taking this plane over the P-38G for the superior view and more powerful engines. The P-38J makes a very good bomber interceptor and has a nice rate of climb. The head on attack abilities of this plane are top notch. Roll rate is average to horrible. Turning ability is average to good depending on flap usage.
P-47D11: This aircraft has a horrible rate of climb and poor views. Firepower is awesome and turn rate above 200mph is excellent. Set convergence for 250 to 300 yards and all that is needed to bring down an enemy aircraft is a tap of the trigger. Do not feel hesitate to engage any aircraft in a turning fight. The only exceptiong being the Spit5.
P-51B: This aircraft is extremely fast, has mediocre views, good turning ability, and good climb. Firepower is horrible. A close range sustained burst will bring down enemy aircraft. Use this plane to dive on La7s, Fw190Ds,P-51Ds and Bf-109g10s. In level flight below 10k it will easily chase down all aircraft with the exception of the above list. It is lighter than the P-51D by several hundred pounds so the best way to fly this plane is to get in a turning fight with late war high speed aircraft. BnZ better turning aircraft.
La-5: This aicraft has awesome climb, good turning ability, and poor guns. The cannons themselves are very lethal, but the rate of fire and the gunsight are awful. This aircraft has very good acceleration and can be used to chase down better turning planes. Sustained turn fights are possible, but deflection shooting is blind luck. Use this plane to out-accelerate and chase down heavy American and German aircraft. BnZ slow moving turn fighters. You must anticipate well in advance where the enemy aircraft will be due to the poor ballistics of the cannons.

190a5 2 kills 23 perks. Slow acceleration slow speed all together but nice guns still has damn pea shooter on it though :p

Ju87 . il2 , a6m2 or 5 (depending on the size of the horde)
-
Mossy Baby !!!! :D
-
109f (with gun package)
190a5
p47d11
a6m2/5 (2 is VERY good at getting most planes, u just have to be under 200 convergance to get it lol)

SkyChimp is that an Avaturd ??
-
Heeey! Howdy ho!
Ahem, anyways, the FM2 aint on that list. I used to use that plane alot as a 'Spit-killer'. Maneuverable, decent flaps, good guns package.
Been flying the PJ alot though. My favorite ride in AW, and once again my favorite ride here!

I'm new to AH, not new to AW, started in the DOS version, it seems like the aircraft here aren't handling the same as in AW.
I'm still trying to figure out what is a good compromise. In Aw I worked hard and became mediocre in a P-51, took a couple of lessons from a guy by the handle of Boozer, I'm wondering if the Boozer here is the same guy :)
I've forgotten a lot since then and have been doing Nascar online for the last 5 years, so I'm very rusty.
I notice in the hanger there's a column called ENY, what is that, it seems to have different ratings and if I dig deep enough in the help files I'll probably find the answers, but I'm thinking it has something to do with scoring, maybe perks, but I'm too new to know where I need to direct my attention.

Try the F4U-1...it's the lightest of the F4U series... turns well for an F4U... its fairly fast on the deck...but acceleration is slow..bottom 1/3 of all AH aircraft...and has a nasty, nasty stall if you jerk it around...a very challenging aircraft to fly initially...but once you learn the nuances...its a dream to fly and a great perk generator (ENY value of 40).
Flying a challenging aircraft makes this game fun for me...and the F4U series is at the top of the list.

Yep G is best perkfarmer
other planes have only 1 option that is run away.
-
Yes, thats me alky :) *hic*
I agree for earning perks, the F4U-1 is the plane to learn to fly even though the climb rate is poor. It will maitain E once you dive in. It will even catch running LA7s if you have a touch of alt.

C205.
Good guns, plenty of ammo, excellent low alt climb and speed.

Yep.. when I need to regain some perks.. the 205 is my ride.. Good guns, great vertical fighter, good high speed and low speed handling.. For the ENY its a no brainer, 205 all day long

Take a TBM, load 50% fuel, a 2k bomb and 6 rockets. Select Attack mode. Fly to nearest enemy base, drop a hanger or kill a few GVs. Should the enemy defend with fighters, a major shock is coming when they discover that a light TBM can turn with an FM-2. It dives well, zoom climbs like crazy (its steady rate climb is at least as good as a P-40B or F4F-4 when light), and its stall characteristics are as benign as they come. With an ENY of 40, you can bring home some major perks (and seriously tweek a few egos).
My regards,
Widewing

I'd have to agree, out of the P-38s the G is the best to farm perk points. The J generates a fair amount in its own right but the G is definitely the "perk farmer" of the bunch.

dam right! 'tis a brilliant plane to fly and has an ENY of 42
it'll get u more than the f4u-1, p-51B, p-38G and the only thing wrong with it is the mediocre gun pacage. It can turn with spit9's if yer good and it can chase down tempests if ur luky enuf
:aok

Ki 61 Tony not a bad perk graber if flown right...

Defend a base in a Hurricane IIC.
-
C.202....:D
Just take 2 guns
-
P-40, take a bomb to a gv filled area. Find a nice target and drop. Once bombs away, single out m8s, m16s, m3s and fire at them from above 45 degrees or there abouts. Even if you dont kill it, and stay in the area, a friendly gv may kill it, giving you the kill.

"The rule which forbids ending a sentence with a preposition is the kind of nonsense up with which I will not put."

Does anyone know why a preposition is a not a proper word to end a sentence with?

Or if the situations not too tight: Hurr Mk1.
Those 303s can make a surprisiing lot of damage from d150. And belive me, at first *noone* takes a Hurri 1 on his six serious. (i recommend upgrading to 2c after 15 mins - people will learn eventually ;))
-
Hurri MkI or Spit MkI. Both are extremely lethal at convergence setting range. 8 x .303 will shred a wing off any plane in the set (save maybe an Il-2) with a 1 second burst if you hit them at convergence range. Did this twice yesterday in a Spit MkI to later model Spits (only got one kill though, the other gave me an assist dangit).
-
Finally, I broke thru the 200 fighter perk barrier. Then the cost of Me 262s went up to 221. Dang it! :p
P-38G/J and the Mossie worked best for me.
Mossie is a really fast ride, even with internal and ext ordinance (preferrably those rockets...great for tank busting).
Only thing I can do in a 190 is make the stall horn chirp.
-
This might sound silly, but if you want to ease into learning the FWs, start flying the F-8. It's slower than a Dora, and doesn't have the most lethal guns package of the FW family, but it still flys and dives like a FW, while being a little more stable. Plus its a pretty tough nut to crack. Once you are comfortable fighting in an F-8, all the others are just a step away. Not that I'm much good in em either, but at least I can do more than just make em stall now. I've actually gotten several kills recently in the A-5 and a few in the A-8.
-
Outboard guns on 190s don't slow you down any. And while they last they double your cannon power. There is more to it than that, but in general take them!
Unless you're in the A8. Then take 30mm. They last for maybe 2-3 kills the way I shoot (I'm conservative) and you usaully have to be close. But MAN it's an instant kill! When you're out you still have crap-loads of 20mm and MG17 13mm (do NOT drop the 13mm, it's like 2x50cal. Great for pilot wounds, pilot kills, damage, long range shooting, and if you take a snapshot with only cannon but the target lives, had you used both guns it may not have.
P.S. Somebody said take the 2-gun package on the C202.
Trust me on this. Take the 4 gun package. Every bit helps. And you're literally hitting more rounds into the same spot with the 4 guns package, which means more damage to any given part, and means more destruction of parts, and more kills.
I flew in a HTH room a while back that had realistic settings for C202s vs P40Es. It was a hard fought game, but everybody on the c202 side agreed that the 4gun package was better than the 2gun package.

I fly the PJ and I seem to pull in about 50 perks a flight. I really try to fly super aggressive in my perk planes now and I still aquire the points faster then I can burn them.

FEAR THE P-40!!!

I took you guys up on the 205 and have to say it handles really well, 3 sorties and 3 kills with it, 2x La's and a 190, think I might have found my plane here at last ! lol
