if they can't handle being drawn as a cartoon dog, then they are never, ever, ever going to be even remotely democratic, or for that matter pleasant to be around. comes with the territory.
i dont mind beaching about us policy, but wrapping an entire nations emotions into a singular newspaper cartoon is just ridicilous. i cant belive that they apologized.
lighten up and grow some skin people.
geesh.
US newspaper regrets lampooning Pakistan over anti-terror role

ISLAMABAD (AFP) - The Washington Times has sent its regrets to the Pakistan embassy in the US over a cartoon that Islamabad said was contemptuous of the country's role in the US war on terror, officials said.

The regret came in a letter written by the editor-in-chief of the US newspaper. Excerpts were made available by the foreign office here.
"The cartoonist inadvertently caused offense to Pakistani citizens," Wesley Pruden said, according to the foreign ministry spokesman Jail Abbas Jilani on Saturday.
"This was not his intention and nor was it the intention of the newspaper," Pruden wrote in the letter that was delivered on Friday.
The cartoon showed a dog personifying Pakistan and a US soldier patting it for its role in the fight against terror, which sparked protests in Pakistan.
Pakistan's parliament passed a unanimous resolution condemning it and demanded an apology from the newspaper.
Jilani said "we are glad that the Washington Times has regretted something which has hurt the feelings of Pakistanis and the forces of moderation."
The cartoon was published on May 6 after US
President George W. Bush praised Pakistan for the capture of Abu Faraj al-Libbi, Al-Qaeda's alleged third in command and a close aide of
Osama bin Laden.
Islamabad has also sent thousands of troops into its unruly northwestern tribal districts bordering
Afghanistan to hunt Al-Qaeda militants who sneaked across the frontier after the ousting of the Taliban in late 2001.

If I remember calling Muslims "Dogs" is very bad. Think of some other groups and their "slurs" and you will maybe see why they got upset. Its all about culture.
-
true.
kinda reinforces my point though doesnt it?
-
Ironic, but IMHO, Michael Jackson now qualifies as "the man" (aka whitey, honky, etc). I hear his golf game has improved.
-
oh no more offended moslems!!!!! yikes!!!!!! so how many were massacred over this outrage?
-
JB88 is right , anyone that helps the evil USA are lapdogs.

I know why don't we have an American flag burning ceremony video tape it and then post it for the O'Club to comment on!
We could then measure just how far veins stick out from foreheads and how many people need resuscitation from having a small thrombosis or first aid due to combination of indignation and bleeding mouse fingers.
-
thats "IN HOUSE".
fact is, the muslim papers have been burning flags, calling us pigs and infidels and declaring jihads against us for ages.
regardless of whether or not our own foreign policy determines a part of this reaction, its pretty ridiculous for our own papers to be caving to such ludicrous forms of PC bullstuff.
free press. period.
a word aint a bomb. grow a spine folks.

It's perfectly legal to burn the flag and also bash the president, you just can't threaten him in anyway. As for the flag burning, we see that on the news all the time. Not a big deal if you don't let it be. this was just a cartoon, i hope they don't watch SNL because hell they make fun of everyone.
