The  Air Force became a seperate service in 1947. The enlisted rank insignia changed to basically what it is now, to be distinct from the Army.
Officer insignia , has remained unchanged.

From the link: "Generalmajor Adolf Galland, one of the outstanding pilots and leaders of men, photographed when he held the post of General der Jagdflieger. After his own high command wrecked his plans in January 1945, Galland spent the remaining months of the war doing what he did best - leading his men and flying the ultimate fighter of the period (ME-109)."

Uh, don't they mean the Me-262?

As mentioned the US Air Force was not initiated until July 26, 1947.
Before that it was the US Army Air force that was responsible for air operations. (And before that the Air Service and before that the Signal Corps). The ranks for USAAF enlisted men and officers in order of ascending rank was:
Private
Private First Class
Corporal
Sergeant
Staff Sergeant
Technical Sergeant
Master Sergeant
Flight Officer
Second Lieutenant
First Lieutenant
Captain
Major
Lieutenant Colonel
Colonel
Brigadier General
Major General
Lieutenant General
General (4 star)
General (5 star)
Hope this helps.
Peace
