I'm seeing too many people take problematic screenshots - too dark.. too small.. too low in JPG quality... etc etc - and asking for opinions.... except I don't have any to give out because I can't see anything..!

I had to increase the gamma level 200% stronger than the default setting to view your pic.

Chimp, make sure that when you skin stuff, you set your base gamma level of your game to default 1.0, or at least, somewhere between 1.0~1.5. The port side of the plane is so dark that I can't see anything on my PC.

Also, make sure the you get enough sun on the surfcae you want to take the screenshot of. Set the arena clock to either 10:00 AM or 4:00 PM, and change the plane heading accordingly so the surface you want to portray gets enough light.

If you skin stuff at too high gamma level, then the colors you are seeing on your PC, is going to be VERY different from what the rest of us sees!

Screenshots, the art of:

What YOU see may look good. But then hit F3, F8, and check out the OTHER side of the plane. The one that's facing the sun. It looks way better.

Do this, in your text buffer type ".time xx yy z" xx = hours, (24 hr clock), yy = mins (a single digit seems to work, or you can prefix with zero as in "7 5" or "7 05" for 7:05am. z = multiplier. How fast time moves. Zero here means time freezes (good for setting up screenshots.

Now for one pic, take off, gear up, set your time to about 7:30 am (.time 7 30 0). Find the profile of your plane facing the sun. If headed into/away from, turn plane around 80-110 degrees either way. Find angle, take screenshot.

NOW, type ".time 14 00 0". Find a better shot (get some alt, better to contrast against the backdrop with). Find angle facing sun, take picture.

NOW type ".time 12 00 0", get a top-down type of screenshot. THEN, set camera up on your belly so you like the angle, roll stick over completely til belly is facing sun, take screenshot fast, recover plane to level flight.

Review screenshots in AHII director. Think about what angles you want. Find time/angle of sun/position of plane to create what you want.

Skychimp,

I like what I see so far - nice choice.   There are a couple of probs you might want to fix though -

1st, the exhaust stacks should be bronze/rust/sooty color rather than silverish.   The area on the bmp for this is the very top, a little right from the left edge I think.

2nd, the radiator intake has sort of a 'faceplate' that you've left in the orignal camo of the default skin, but it should be changed to fit in with your camo pattern.   This is in the lower right corner of the bmp, IIRC.

Lets see some of the fuselage side and upper wing surface in the next screenshot so we can get a look at insignia, etc.

Keep at it.   Its a long road but looks like you've got talent.

I agree - nice screen shot there.  Aesthetically, hitting the zoom key (Z) when the plane is the subject makes for a nice screenie too.  Takes away most of the "fish eye" effect.
