Well, maybe it is not time wasted, but it could be better spent then reading the O’Club and some other forums. I really wish HTC would hand over the moderations of the different forums to members of the community. Think of the hours skuzzy could spend on development and or support since he did not have to read the boards.
Bet the CM's would have the new object editor out by now if he did not have to deal with so many forums. :p
-
I bet skuzzy likes his job.
-
And who would you pick to moderate the O club?
Who else is as fair, impartial, understanding, and respected as skuzzy?
Help & training, well ya, you could make any one of us Mod there. But then I can't think when was the last time that forum needed a moderator.
CM stuff, sure, give it to the current head CM, lets make sure he stays busy after all.
:)
Same for CT.
But the big boys, General discussion, and Oclub almost have to be moderated by HTC staff. They are simply too sensitive, and poor decisions would cost too much for it to be any other way.
-
"And who would you pick to moderate the O club?"
No one. I personally think HTC should ditch that forum as most of the O-club denizens use it as a place to simply antagonize each other and anyone who wanders in. Let an independent player-created webboard, likeChecksix or AGW, pick up that traffic.
It is certainly not an attraction nor any kind of a positive for AH in the least.
All imNSHo of course....
Good post Daddog!

LOL Have you been to CheckSix lately. I`ve read the threads when bored a couple of times in the last 2 or 3 months. Seems to be automatic that anyone entering there to post reverts to a 7th grade level .

Frankly , that`s a crock.
Haven`t been playing the game that much as of late due to my free time being cut down. I always work in some time to visit the O`club at least a couple of times a day if at all possible.
Usualy it is what I refer to as Comedy Cental text style. Some of the best entertainment on the net.
My advice....... If ya can`t take the heat stay outa Texas. :)
Skuzz recently stated that he views us participants in the O`club antisocial.
I never thought Skuzz would take the time to issue a compliment such as that. :)

I would pick..... ME! :D
(That was a surprise, wasn't it?)

"Seems to be automatic that anyone entering there to post reverts to a 7th grade level . "
A moot point when the AH "ot" itself operates at a grade school level too.
But you may have missed my point. I only used "Checksix" as an example of a privately provided forum where people could go and talk about anything they wanted to in just about any manner they wished. A place IMO where the discussion and behavior would not reflect badly on HTC and AH. With OT eliminated so would also be the time wasted by HTC having to deal with it.

Yall got C6 wrong... it's a place where one can be a fool, relax... and not be bothered by politics. A bit like before we were all grown ups.
Oh, and don't criticise C6... LePaul is going to cry us a river again! I think SW ate all his pills last month.
-
i disagree.
i have had some great conversations and have developed some great friendships in there. i think that it is a terrific assest, not only to the community, but to the world at large as discussions that we have there influence us and we carry it outward.
i prefer it more than any other forum and would probably go away if it were to disappear.
besides... there is really only so much infernal whining that one can do about gameplay and ACM before it grows staler than fossil toast.
i am sure that skuzzy could live without another round of any myriad of topics that pop up in GD on a daily basis too.
he does a good job and we should all be thankful that he does. i am.
in summation.
you have your romper room. we have ours. all is well.

he says he hates it. but he really loves it.
he'd be a shell of a man without us.
we are like that scene in the movie where the demon is made up of all of the screaming souls.
aghhhhhhahhahhahhahhhhhhhhhhh h!HHhhhhhgnnnnnn!!!!

In addition to not adding anything to the game, and wasting lots of Skuzzy's valuable time, most of the worst offenders in the O'C dont even play the game. Same with the Aircraft and Vehicle threads where 4-5 of the same guys (who again, dont even play the freaking game) cant talk about any topic more than 10 posts before it becomes hijacked and turns into a personal mudslinging fiasco.
-
Bannnnn them all.
-
BS..
99% of the posts in the O-club are inoffensive, and most of the posters play the game. Check-6 is a little more light hearted, and you ned a little thicker skin, but the people are basically good.... OK basically not evil...... well basically safe because they are not in your living room.

for us at work, the o'club is multi-player notepad. actually a MMORPG.
at least we get to play something at work ; )

the only thing keeping me sane is the o'club...

No one wants SOB in their living room.

My opinion as well, but then those hundreds of former customers who no longer subscribe would come in here and post the drivel. Kind of a no-win if you ask me.

I agree Westy, pull the plug on the O’Club what a waste of time for HTC employees to have to moderate that.
I asked pyro this at the con last year. What does HTC spend the most time on that produces the least amount of revenue? I told him I though it was some of the forums on this BB. Don’t know if he agreed with me or not. The clock is ticking on the AHII engine. How long will it last before they have to build a totally new engine? Since their time is finite they need to be as productive as possible. If we can free up their time by moderating some of the forums it is a win win situation.
-
ijits!
It's not about the game! It's about the community! This game could suck AND blow and it wouldn't matter a whit if the communirty were there for comradery and good times. Air Warrior was outdated beyond repair, but the people still came and paid up. Because of the community. Most of us don't really care if the P-47 is the right color inside the wheel wells, or if the La7 is overmodeled by 3 mph at 4.9k. We just wanna know the guy we just blew outta the sky so we can rag on him latter on.

I'll moderate!!

they used to pump your gas for you, take your groceries to the car and carry your bags to your room at motels.
then they said...hey, lets save money and resources and pass the savings to the consumer.
never really happened.
the community is part of what i pay for...were it to disappear, i would reevaluate the value of my investment while considering the reason for the change.
but i would prefer that we do it how we do it best..we all pitch in and help out where we can.
dont start flames with people you dont know. those of us who have been there for awhile know how far we can take it and are usually good spirited.
were i to have the skuzzy button
i'd assign a vetran or a group of vets to moderate. a balanced spectrum of a few. they could even have shades for the job.
i'm sure that there are many who would be happy to wield the skuzzinator when needed and could be trusted to do so with fairness and aplomb.

I have to chuckle. IF OT were to go away and the rest of the forums where past and present players talk about AH and WWII aviation remained some of you would feel seriously slighted and would leave?
Skuzzy!! Where is your damn bribe link!!?? ;)
I disagree Midnight Target. OT is not the AH community. Most there haven't played AH in a very long time and it has become a small but foul community of it's own that could careless about AH. OT is a veritable suppository (no spelling error) of mainly dysfunctional personalities attacking and arguing over religious beliefs, political convictions or about where they live on this planet. The very few decent topics are buried under a mountain of political & religious garbage with an unhealthy smattering of personal attacks thrown in.
IMO I still beleive there is nothing for HTC to gain by supporting the OT "community."
-
and how do we in the community gain by the alignment of your perception?
were those words not inflammatory?
are you not in fact making swathish assumptions and arguing a topic yourself here?
how is your topic more important than religion or politics or current events?
are these things that we should just forget about or is it something else that is really a concern here?
should a community conform to what YOU percieve as important or can we agree that a better rule is "to each his own" and find a way to make it work more efficiently without scrapping the place that others might enjoy.
how do you personally contribute to the O club in a constructive manner to deter this type of behavior?
O-club means officers club.
we should behave like officers yes.
should we bury it?
nope. that's a big negative.
but you've definately got some pretty good bait there sargeant.
dismissed.

Well to be fair Westy, take away the "dive bombing buffs suk", "killshooter sucks", "I quit", "Look, I'm the first to post there is New News!" etc., The General Discussion still is worth reading, can't say the OC is any different. And just for fun, now count how many locked threads are in each forum say 3 pages deep. And I still play btw.
-
... how about just rename the "O Club" to something like, "Fisherman's Wharf?"
