Title: Most Under Rated Plane
Post by: kaos1 on May 18, 2005, 12:01:23 PM: What do you think is the most under rated plane? I think it is the C.205, that is why I fly it so much.

Ki-61 can match up with anything in the plane set. The 205 is a better "platform" but the Ki has much better vis, ballistics and low speed handling as well as outstanding range. The -1 hog is probably the best perk harvester in the game. Again great range, good gun platform and does those amazing hog thingies...also is a better turner then most give it credit for...

While the B is pretty much a dog in the MA, the E has a considerably more powerful engine, and you get the excellent hitting power of 6 M2 .50 cal. Flight characteristics are gentle and pleasant. Almost everyone totally underestimates the abilities of this plane when flown by the right hands.

Most folks think it's a Ground Attack plane, but it's not. It does seem underpowered, and so it flies a lot like the Ki-61 IMHO. That is, when you have energy she's awesome, get slow and low and your ****ed.

What most people underestimate is the Cannon. If you use simply 3 round bursts you can easily enforce ammo discipline, and the excellent ballistics allow you to reach out farther than people expect (like the La-7 that is "extending" after trying to bounce you).

Anyhow, it only has 32 rounds, but then again, it only takes 1 for a kill.

ironically, the la7 is also the most over-rated plane.

I dive on an La7 balls out, wep on, thinking don't blow any E cause yer gonna need it to stay with him and next thing I know I've overshot and that bombastic egomaniac Shane shoots me down. Most of the time when I die it's from assuming the guy I'm about to engage is a dweeb, which is true 95% of the time. Once again, like everywhere else in life, your expectations get you into trouble.

And Shane, just for the record, you suck :lol

Post by: Helldvr on May 30, 2005, 08:41:21 PM: Id definetly say the P-40 E. Lots of power when you need it, weight is very heavy to dives fast, hits hard. Very stable and wont spin on you. With the ability to carry a bomb you can attack, pull up and provide air coiver. When flown in a hispeed dogfight I usually come out either intact or victorias.

I took the position of base defense with it once, and the wonders it did... A Bf 109G-2 and a Spitfire Mk.V got on my tail, so I took to the rear gun. I unloaded about 60 bullets into the 109's nose, and I got its radiator and oil. He turned, lost energy, and hit a tree. I then opened fire on the Spitfire, hitting the cockpit and fuselage several times. The bastard killed my rear gunner, but I had the last laugh --- I was still alive, and the Spitfire exploded. My job complete, I landed.

Oh, and *never* underestimate the Il-2 as a dogfighter. It will be your undoing... They can out-turn almost any plane. I shot down an F6F-5 and a Seafire II this way.
