Hmm..
I got some questions too..

Ex-Recruiter..had to leave the job early because I wouldn't lie to meet my quotas.
As we speak I am on the balls to 6 watch at the Dam Neck Quarterdeck as OOD...what fun this is!

"Raise yer right hand and repeat after me; Do you swear to sureity, purity, security and not pork the state, say what?"
"what?"
"If you don't answer the question, we're gonna have to gag you."
"what question??"
"Gag him! Next victum, please."

I sometimes miss quarterdeck watches overseas inport. Nice views, usually very quiet, don't have to drive a forktruck for 4 hours, no last minute pulls before an unrep, no SKCS screaming where the hell are the blue diamond pallets and why are the red stripe pallets mixed with the black stripes, etc., etc....yep, sometimes those watches were very nice.

Shore Duty Quarterdeck watch right now...Just have to worry about OS "A" school students having sex in the barracks or having some sort of incident out in town..or maybe the chill water will go out and I'll have to shut down all the simulators and computer complexes...no view..just a computer and a TV and my maintinence rover.

My Shore Duty QD watch consisted of....a podium....to watch a couple of locked glass doors. Nothing but a podium. Balls to 4. B.E.E. building in the middle of the night is QUIET. Those watches I don't miss at all. Take it easy *edit -ooops* shipmate, have a good one.

You're right about the watches overseas..love those...Wish I was back on a ship..thought I hated sea duty since I did it for 9 years in a row..until I came to shore duty..there are worse places than a ship after all.

Guess it depends on where you go. I did my last two years on shore duty at China Lake. Hell, I didn't even wear a uniform most days. It was a good skate.

I've never served too color blind to do anything other then to push papers all day. Not my ideal way to serve my country.
But, I've been fortunate to have a Uncle who's put 25 years in he went in as a Seaman, now he's a Ltn Cmdr. He's had some cool jobs. N.T.C. Orlando was a Batalion Cmdr , Assistant to Navy's Joint Chief of Staff, Ships Admin for H.S. Truman. And now he's at NATO HQ. I've had the chance to do several trips with him.
Great stuff.. and I'm glad to see people still want to join service.
Salute!
