just got back
thought it was a LOT better then 1 and 2. wish anakin hadn't gone from good to evil so quickly though, that should have been more drawn out.. and the stuff with padme was kind of disjointed.
but.. still a good movie. sad and dark though :(
-
Sorry but I gotta give away the ending.
the good guys win:)
-
I thought it was the best of the three and on par with 4,5 and 6. Totally could have done without the "Frankenstien" scene though.
-
George Lucas blew me away with his intense dialog and masterful use of language.
-
Lucas was close to a good film. He ****ed it up again.
I was disapointed.

[Emperor's voice] you underestimate the power of the Dark Side. [/Emperor's voice]

I thought the Frankenstein scene could have been better, but aside from that and 1 or 2 akward lines, I thought the movie was awesome. The fall to the darkside was well done, great fights, effects, and well placed humor ( R2 and C3P0 where well used in this one). Good flick.
-
Damn just got back from it. Very intense all the way around. The effects especially the beginning battle scene were amazing.
I think the explanation of the Emperor's transformation, the transformation of the Republic to the Galactic Empire, and Darth Vader's final completion were stunning and very well done.
The ending montage had a great effect and gave me a sense of completion, knowing that I had seen the first 3 movies and now the ending of the prequel trilogy. I will certainly appreciate the first 3 even more now. I can imagine the feelings of those who lived through the days of the first 3 movies and now are able to see a saga completed.
P.S. The emperor, Vader, and Tarkin on the bridge watching construction of the Death Star was the most surreal thing I've seen on film in a while.
-
this movie was visually stunning. The crappy acting was expected but at least it DIDN'T HAVE JAR JAR ACTUALLY SPEAK.
I really made me want to watch epp 4, a new hope.
-
The childish antics of the droids kind of ruined it in the beginning. What robot would say:
"Uh oh"
Grevious doesn't say Thank You "You're welcome"
"Ouch"(from R2D2s electricity) then it kicks R2
etc.
One question though, what the heck was General Grevious? Half human, half robot? He had a robot body but was coughing, then we see he has working organs??

i just saw SWIII, and i'm with you on this, but on the other
side i dont know how i would film it different to be more drawn out ;)
SWIII is a Visual FX journey, nice Job Lucas,
and yes after the movie i had to watch SW IV on DVD at home lol ;)

Maybe he was part of a collective.
Joe Bob Briggs won't rate it very highly. SW3 (6) would have been a much better film if we saw Natalie Portman nekkid.
-
Nice effects and bad acting. Crappiest SW ever.
-
oh holy crap I agree with staga.
-
The opening space battle and rescue section was incredibly uninvolving and sterile...
-
I thought it was the best of the prequel trilogy. Why? Because Anakin didn't just turn evil, he thought he was doing the right thing the whole time. He really thought the Jedi were threatening the democratic ideals of the Republic because he didn't realize how Palpatine was manipulating everything.
The whole time, he was an impetuous, influencable youth, and Palpatine took advantage of it.
Lots of nice tie-ins. For example, Jimmy Smit's ship was the Tantive IV, the first ship seen in the whole series (the one Leia was captured on). When he talks to 'Captain Antilles', I remembered that that was the name of the captain who Vader crushed the throat of in Episode IV when he lifted him off the ground in the beginning.
The method used to wipe out the jedi was a lot more realistic then Anakin going out and hunting them down one by one, and explained how it was they could be taken out so completely.
One thing missing that I was sorta hoping for was a scene to explain the 'Force/Mescalin' tree from Episode V (where Luke sees himself as Vader).
Alderaan looked like the planet Paramount. Seriously, the place they landed looked like it was surrounded by the Paramount corporate logo mountains.
-
I heard on the Radio that there was a scene that had a glimse of the millinium falcon in it but didn't see it in the movie. Were they just BSn? They may have been I only caught bits and pieces of the conversation.
-
I think people that dont like this movie are pretty well ****ed up.
That being said there are some people that will think Im ****ed up for thinking they are ****ed up. I can live with this.......
-
I'm geeky and loved it.:D

Campbell, or Lucas, which came first?

No BS there. You can catch it landing in the scene where they get to the senate and Obi tells Annakin to stay and be the hero of the day.

General what ever is a cyborg. He has a brain and internal organs but his body is mechanical.
Prequal to Darth.
I read it at Costco!

I hate to tell ya..they as much as I love the SW saga..they all have poor dialouge and crappy acting....think about it..of the main 3 characters in the originals..only Harrison Ford made it big. That gotta tell ya something.
Ep 3 was awesome...don't know why everyone is so critical of these films..maybe their expectations are too high? I don't know why..1 and 2 kinda fell behind but 3 redeemed them I think.
-
Story need elaborated more..
Graphical glitches..
other then that.. It was good..
Buzz-droid scene was the best..
I esp. loved him scraping them off..
And new R2D2 skills?
I see another movie coming up...
-
i see more coming ( 7, 8 , 9 type deal) but i have no idea what story he would make. imho, people are into it like a cult. Lucas knows he can make milllions and millions by maken more of these movies.

Isn't Lucas quiting his film studio?
-
Lucas said he would not do 7,8, and 9 because of all of the books written that take place after the movies. I can't see him giving up all the money they would make though. Who knows.
-
There will be a TV series that takes place between 3 and 4..and some kind of animated series..from what I've read on the intardnet
-
I loved the movie and after 6 years from Ep I, I feel somewhat sad that the movie adventure is over.
Lucas said that the series between 3 and 4 will be about 100 shows with live actors.

If 7, 8, and 9 is coming, then likely the story would be called, Dark Empire and I used to read Dark Empire on comic books in few years ago.

I liked it so much i'm going to see it again on friday.:) After seeing Ep III i hope lucas will consider making more star wars films.
There were some parts that just made me giggle, thinking "hehe, that was SO cool". Surely i wasn't the only one here who thought "dude! don't do it!" when anakin was deciding whether to kill mace windu or not.
-
It was friggin awesome!

Yes and he is re-doing the entire 6 episodes for 3D release and Imax. I heard it from Lucas himself on CNN saturday. Not sure of the Eta but my guess is probably next year. Remember when he re did the first 3 and released them for 1 month each with all new sound and images.
The same CNN interview he said the tbd shows will have no characters from the saga.
One other thing what did Padme say to Obi wan right before she died. I missed that part.
-
Just got back from seeing it. My 8 year old daughter has become obsessed with the seriesover the last few months so I was left with little choice LOL.
Not a half bad flick.
One thing that struck me was near the end when Lord Vader was being repaired an they were putting the facesheild and helmet on him the look on his face as it closed in on him. And gave the sense of entrapment of the dark side.
Least thats the sense I got from it
-
It also gave a sense of some wicked heads up display action. I wonder if he can get HBO on that thing... or if it helps him with witty comebacks, ala the cyborg in Terminator.
Cleaning Man at Flophouse: Hey, buddy. You got a dead cat in there, or what?
[the Terminator visualizes: 'POSSIBLE RESPONSE: YES/NO; OR WHAT?; GO AWAY; PLEASE COME BACK LATER; GOODNESS NO, MISTER; GOSH NO]
The Terminator: Goodness no, Mister!
I'm paraphrasing him slightly...

I dont think you are correct on that one. I will have to go to the video tape to be sure but I dont think that guys name was Antilles. If it was, then he must have changed sides at some point. If you recall from Episode 4, C-3PO makes the statement that a Mr. Antilles was he and R2's last owner. And Luke was friends with a guy named Wedge Antilles also.....possibly the Captian Antilles in Episode 3 was Luke's buddy's father or something but I dont think he would be the same guy that Vader chokes for failing to crush the Rebel Alliance.

She said there is still good in him. Tried to repeat it and died before finishing the sentence.

This action figure disagrees. The Tantive IV is Leia's ship, btw. Perhaps you're thinking of an imperial captain?

In my grand nerdiness, I will answer some of the questions here.
General Grevous is a cyborg according to some of the books and animated series. He is a biological being (race unnamed) that was crippled in a shuttle crash orchestrated by (surprise) the Emperor working through Count Dooku. The scrolling credits in the beginning of ep3 call him a droid, so there's a contradiction there. droid = robot, cyborg = living being who is mechanically augmented. He's obviously not a droid, since he coughs and you can see living tissue under his exoskeleton. Lucas screwed up his own movie there.
The Tantive IV is Leia's ship at the beginning of ep4. It is captained by captain antilles (no relation to wedge antilles, the rebel pilot who flies in ep4, 5, and 6). Captain Antilles of the Tantive IV takes posession of C-3PO and R2 after the implied memory wipe at the end of ep3. Captain Antilles gets choked by Vader in ep4.
The Tantive IV is the ship you see in ep3 and ep4. Princess Leia's full name is Leia Organa. Jimmy Smits character is Bail Organa. Jimmy Smits is Leia's adoptive father. Leia gets the ship through him. Jimmy Smits is a Senator from Alderaan (like Leia will be in the future). Jimmy Smits dies when alderaan gets torched in ep4.

Agreed. I felt chills when he told Obi Wan "You're either with me or you are my enemy". Or was it "You're either with me or against me"? Can't recall. Had a feeling things were moving in that direction, but it was pretty gutsy of Lucas anyway for such a major motion picture. I noted Padme's comment, too, on the death of Liberty happening to thunderous applause.
Think it will pass over many heads unnoticed?

there are 2 things that i am sad about.
#1........No more New Star Wars movies, i always looked forward to seeing the new ones.
#2........Technological down fall between III and IV. III is the most advanced movie as far as special effects i have ever seen. IV was the most advanced in the 1970's. So you can kind of see why im sad.
Personally I LOVED Episode III, best movie i have seen all year. I can all ready garuntee that by x-mas time for $100 you can buy all 6 episodes. Good X-mas present for the ones you love. *Cough* HINT HINT *Cough*

Yeah I was thinking about a different guy that Vader chokes later in the series....might even be in Empire Strikes Back. I knew he choked a guy at the beginning of Ep 4 also and I did review the tape but they never mention who the guy is. I guess by his uniform we can assume that it is Captain Antilles. You would think a guy would move up in rank or something or get a better gig somewhere in the 20 yrs or whatever its supposed to be between Ep 3 and Ep 4. All that time and he is still Captain Antilles? Not very ambitious of him.....

I was at the end of a 6-pack (hooray for Alamo Draft Houses!) by the frankenstein scene.. so I could be wrong... but I thought he turned the droids over to Wedge Antilles, later seen as a Rebel general... or maybe Wedge = Captain Antilles's kid? The guy that runs Rogue Squadron in the books.

Lmao damn good idea. the thought didnt occur to me untill you just mentioned it.
What thought did pass through my mind though.
I guess I can understand how it would chenge how deep your voice is but..
I wanna know how putting on a Vader helmet changes your voice from having an american accent to having a Shaksperian one?

im just happy obi one kicked anakin's *** :)
i was sure anakin is going to whoop him. that was a good suprise.

Anakin was an overconfident scrub :) The only time he ever beat Obi-Wan was when Obi let him win in EP4. He didn't have to lose, he chose to.
-
How about when Obi Wan told Anakin not to try it as he was standing on the side of the lava flow but Anakin all young, dumb and full of *** decided he could take the man who was his master. Then he ends up flopping around like a dying fish after Obi sliced off his one good arm and both legs. I find it funny in a way how Yoda said Obi wasn't good enough with the Force to take on a Sith Master but he ended up making two Sith Apprentices into smaller pieces than what they started out as.
-
I was sitting there thinking, "Come on go filet him and make sure he's dead, you know these guys never die when they're supposed to".

ah, i feel same, and i really hope Lucas turns and finish episode
7,8 and 9. Even we all knew what would happen in EP III, it was
still great to watch.
Imagine to see EP VII where nobody really knows what to expect.
Please Lucas dont give up, finish all 9 ! ;)
anyway im ready to see "The War of the Worlds" from Spielberg.

I was expecting to see Mark Hamil's face on the baby Luke. THAT would've been skeery.
End, very early Death Star construction... was that a younger Grand Moff Tarkin?
I would have killed to see an early introduction of Solo... possibly way too early though. He'd be a kid. Apparently he went through an Imperial academy and his parents were murdered by the Empire in some fashion. He dropped out and entered smuggling (according to Dark Forces 1).

Yes

Well.. saw it this evening. What a load of ***...
I didn't expect much, but errr... c'mon.
The only thing that surprised me is that it's Obi one that kicks Anakin's arse ... I was expecting something far more brutal (considering Darth Vader's state below his suit) than a little lava burn...
-
The whole "let's send Luke to live with Anakin's family, on Anakin's home planet of Tatooine - Anakin'll never think of looking there!" bit at the end just reeked of Lucas having painted himself into a corner back in the dreadful Episode I.
"George, wouldn't that be the first place he'd look?"
"Ahh, we'll just skip over it quickly with the music playing loud - roll the credits, they'll never notice. Trust me."
And General Grievous?!? Please! Does nobody in Lucasfilm has the balls to say:
"George. General Grievous?!? WTF, dude? Think up something less cheesey for flips sake, it's a blockbuster Hollywood movie. Grevious is just embarrassing."
"Well it was that or General Hospital."
"Damn, George, why not hire a ghost writer like everyone else?"
It kinda begs the question did General Grievous have less powerful fore-runners?
Have we yet to meet General Rather-Nasty? General Brusque? General Impolite? General Naughty?
Other than that, I came away without wanting Lucas' head on spike outside the Cinema, so a result really.
One final niggle:
In a society so amazingly technologically advanced, and a religious order of such wise and serious warriors, why have none of the Jedi come up with a small loop of string or a strap like the ones on mobile phones to stop them from constantly dropping their bloody light sabres?!?!
I mean, come on lads! It's hardly the obsolete discipline of rocket science...

umh as far as i know, Vader dont know that Luke & Leia where born,
he thinks Padme died and the baby(s) too. In Ep V he for the first time
realize that Luke is his son. And there is no talk from Vader about Leia
in any of the old Episodes.
thats what i know, but i could be wrong?
