Title: Burning planes during KOTH
Post by: AKDogg on May 22, 2005, 11:07:56 AM
In my opinion, I think planes that are buring and are not the last 3-4 planes left should be considered dead.  We all know planes that are burning have a life span of 30secs- 2 mins.  If they are the last 3 planes then u are still in the game.  This is my opinion and would like others on this.

If I remember one comment about this from Saturday. If a burning plane was 100% consistant on everyones front end, the part of AH running on your computer, then a determination could be made. From what I understand this isn't the case where a plane can show flames on your FE whereas they might not on another guys FE. Those deals are always tricky.
If the point is drawn out further, why not have people with pilot wounds have to bail also, they have a limited lifespan. There would be no way of verifiying this either and it just adds another whole level of complexity and a great source of confusion.

the same argument can be said for pilot wounds, oil, radiator, and fuel leaks.  We all know that EVENTUALLY the engine will die, just like a plane on fire.  Some planes burn faster than others, some planes engines seize up from oil faster.

I for one feel that if your on fire, leaking oil, pilot wounded etc, you can and should keep fighting.  The plane isn't "down" until it's spiraling to the deck in pieces (or no ammo, gas, engine etc. per the rules), and planes on fire can still fight.

My 2 cents.  Please everyone post your opinions on this subject so me and Fuzeman can discuss it and make a decision.

Agree - keep flying until you're dead.

No and No.

If you make it so burning planes must be considered dead, then you must do the same for planes with oil hits, or radiator or fuel hits. All those things shorten the life of the plane, it just depends on how fast or when.

You can't expect to have it for just burning planes.

Another issue that Lute, Fuze, and I are discussing...

We've come up with an interesting lil blurb to cover it...

You must EF if you are unable to maintain "CONTROLLED and POWERED FLIGHT".  It is a draft version, but I think it sums it up pretty well.

POWERED = Engine is usable. (has fuel, coolant (if needed) & oil, is not seized)
CONTROLLED = has ALL the necessary parts to fly.  Loss of a wingTIP does NOT mean loss of control, while loss of a wing does.

AMMO would be mentioned seperately.
