First of all my wife and I could have flown to Europe in the time it took us to get there. We had to fly to New York, then Dallas, then Albuquerque. Our first flight left here at 8.00am, we arrived at about 6.00pm (9.00pm Bda time).
First impressions were good. The "big sky" and mountains in the background were very cool.
What I liked:
Atomic museum
The prime rib at "High Finance".
The view from the mountains
Ballooning
The people...very friendly.
What I disliked:
The gaseous reaction I had to all the Mexican food (I hope that stops soon.)
Travel time
Didn't have a car
Unable to play golf due to bad back
Too much Mexican food

In the one of you by the bomb, you look like you might be a little stiff..... is your back still all messed up?
Isn't that strange to be in a desert one minute, and a few minutes later you are in the pines and snow? Sounds like you had a good trip.

We have friends with a cabin in Cloud Croft near Ruidosa. It is a very nice part of the world to visit.

Beautiful pics Curval. Looks like you had fun. The side effects of the Mex food will wear off but unfortunately you will be left w/ a craving for it that pops up, uncontrollably, at times. My advice is that you locate a good Mexican joint, if one exists(no offense), in your homeland.

It sure is. I was supposed to have it operated on June 2nd, but had to put it off to September.

Well Hang...anytime I'm in the US it feels weird being in such a big place. Like an insignificant speck.
Skuzzy...JB is right...it was a burrito. The veggie stuff on top was just topping.

Curval, an appropriate Mexican breakfast would include Chirizo and eggs, or some sweet corn meal biscuits. The beans would be refried as well.
Dressing? For a burrito? EEEEEKKKK!!!!

No offense, but that looks like a lunch. I could never eat that for breakfast.
I'm a bacon and eggs guy. My favorite is scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese and tobasco sauce. Now that's eating. :)

Ahh...but we were in NEW Mexico, I imagine that is the difference. ;)
Besides, I'm with Nuke. Bacon and eggs are breakfast, this thing was my wife's.

I was in Texas for about 30 days last year. Seems that the state has it's own idea of what Mexican food is.
Chirizo is disgusting :(
The best "Mexican" food experience I had was in Ohio ( rolls eyes) I order the "authentic" Mexican Taco and was surprized to see the 4 foot long thing they called a taco arrive shortly after. it was basically a hamburger wrapped in a tortilla.
A local guy I was meeting for lunch explained that Ohio has a huge Mexican influence :lol

Mexican food varies from area to area. Some of the best I've ever had was in Northern California up by Salinas or Monterey. So. Cal mexican is a little different, and TexMex is a whole other thing....
Bottom line though.... It's all good. Mexico is the France of the Western Hemisphere when it comes to food.

MT...you have GOT to be kidding?
Almost without exception the group I was with all commented that they had had enough Mexican food to last a lifetime in the four days we were there.
In fact, the BEST food I had (other than the Prime Rib mentioned above) was a Prime Rib sandwich on Texas toast smothered in swiss chese and carmalised onions with an au jus dipping sauce. It was the only non-Mexican type food they had at the hotel restaurant.

I love Mexican food.
There is a little place in Scottsdale I used to eat lunch at. *Real* Mexican food.
The menu has cow brains, tongues and intestines among other things.
I usually just had their tacos.......about 4" tortillas, spicy beef, fresh mayonnaise and guacamoli ( so fresh and good that you could eat this by itself) just awesome.

we only get the "tuned down" version of mexican here... gonna have to try the real deal some time.

You do realize *real* Mexican food has little to no beef in it?
Real Mexican food is mostly vegetables.
And Chirizo (properly prepared) is awesome with eggs.
And quite right. All parts of the country seem to have thier own idea of what Mexican food is and most, if not all, are not real Mexican food. Most Americans would find little appealing in real Mexican food.

Mexican food does indeed have beef, also fish. Cow tongue and brains, guts and other beef products are authentic Mexican favorites with the Mexicans I have known.
I never could stand Chirizo.
What I meant by real Mexican food is like the little place in Scottsdale I mentioned. Run by Mexicans making the food the same way they made it in Mexico.
The place can hold maybe 25 people at the most and it looks a little run down. It is just like the places I have been in Mexico.

Is Chirizo a spicy sausage? Like the Portugese sausage?
There is a reason the Mexicans like all that offal stuff....no-one else would eat it and it was therefore plentiful. :p

Chirizo is a spicy sausage. I should also note, I have not found a restaurant (even the ones run by Mexicans) which has prepared it properly.
The native Mexicans are in business and realize most Americans would not be able to stomach real Mexican food so they Americanize it. It's a good call on thier part actually.
The Americanized Chirizo is not very greasy, and is pretty mild.
Real Chirizo will almost melt when it is cooked. It is chocked with grease and sauces. We use to run into Mexico, when I was growing up, to get homemade Chirizo from a farmer. It is also where I learned to prepare it.
NUKE, Mexico has very little palatable beef product. Only the very rich have any beef to eat. The by-products are what the typical Mexican gets. Along the coast, fish is plentiful. In the interior, not so much, as most of the fish is sold for export.
I am not digging at you NUKE, but there are difference in *Mexican* food, even in Mexico.

i had Chirizo in san antonio, the waitress asked in broken english if i was sure i wanted that lol
it was rather interesting, and i kind of enjoyed it.
of all things "mexican" i have to say my favorite things are a good red enchlada sauce, and a stuffed pablano pepper.

I know you are not Skuzzy, and I agree with you. Mexico is a huge country and the food varies wherever you go.

I'm guessing huge differences. In our 4,5 mill people nation there are huge variations in almost every "norwegian" type food. Almost every town has its own variations from back in the old days when they were very separated communities.
You cant even understand what some of them are saying (those that has stuck to their dialects)
I bet i could not understand a word of what GScholz is saying or what he is trying to prepare for dinner and we would prolly need to talk english :D

Oh c'mon Skuzzy... Are you a Mexican food snob?
"Real" Mexican food can be had in many places, and "real" Mexican food is a result of the local flora and fauna and spices available. Remember that Texas used to be Mexico, and so did California. Northern Californian Mexican food is "real" and so is Texmex. The Biria from the local taqueria is excellent and yes you can ask for the heart or the lung if you want.
Chilangos in Mexico City eat one thing, while the Indians in the Yucatan eat another. But like I said... its all good.

No snob here MT. However, most modern day Texmex bears little resemblance to anything served in Mexico. I have eaten

Ahh ok, then I think you'd like the one we have here. Much tastier (not spicier) and not so greasy.
Popular here as "tapas" or fried (the one that we call "Chistorra").

Is it pretty saucy (best term I can come up with)? Or is it farily dry? Have you had the Mexican Chorizo (would be good for a comparison)?
Heck, I just might heve to get over there to try it out, along with the other Spanish treats.

My Spanish neighbours feed us bacalao a couple of times a month.. i have gotten used to it and its pretty ok.

ok, im in highschool, and I have a few mexican friends. Often times they bring there own food. Most evry time it is either some kind of salad(skuzzy your right) here anyway, but other times they bring a beef and beef burrito( yes some mexicns have beef).
When I read this psot i asked them, they said something like this: ususally we just have some kind of veggitables. We grow our own plants, herbs and things like that. But also when we get the chance we go to the market and get some meet, and stuff.
So this is what I think( while mexican food is mainly a mix, they often have to resort to veggies like historical food, thanks.

I've had the mexican one, and the one we have here is dry, not saucy at all. As a matter of fact, the procedure has its basis on letting it dry for months or years.
@ Nilsen: They feed you cod? I'd have guessed you had that kind of fish over there.

There are as many different takes on Mexican food as there are accents in a language. All depends on which part of the country you are in.
Someone asked what Taco Bell was... it's crap. Maybe compairing prime rib to oatmeal would be a better example.

Albuquerque is a cool town. Spent New Years there a few years back on the company's dime because I had to cover for one of our employees who went out of town for vacation. Took the cable car to the top of Sandia Peak and took some pics. It was nice. There was a snowstorm the day before we arrived and there was snow on the ground at the hotel. The ski lifts on the West side of the mountains were open. It was weird to look down from the top and see the west side was all brown and green and the east side was covered in snow. Food was crazy too....everywhere you go, no matter what you order they ask if you want red or green sauce on it.
