Title: Spit question?
Post by: MajWoody on May 23, 2005, 03:28:21 PM
I was wondering what the difference between a spitV & a seafire is performance wise? I seem to be able to get around in the vertical quicker in the seafire but my perception may be wrong.
I thought the planes were identical except that the seafire has a tailhook & cannot drop bombs.
Any insight, or answers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

The Seafire is appx 300lbs heavier than the MK V (tailhook)
Other than that, same plane

seafire is heavier for use on fleets. more weight in the wings because the wings fold in half ,tail hook. dont know if the seafire also has the 16+ boost that the spit got. so that would make the seafire slower heaver and it cant turn as good.

Will the spitv turn better in the vertical as well as the flat turn?

SeaFire does have the 16+ boost like the Spit V.

Spit V seems more nimble to me in all planes (vert, horz) than the SeaFire. The SeaFire is also generally slower than the Spit V ... this I would presume to be the result of what Elyeh and TrueKill have pointed out due to the fact that the SeaFire is a CV based plane.

Depends who is in the other seat ... I have very rarely lost a true 1 v 1 turn fight against a SeaFire while in a Spit V, while on the other hand, I have downed many Spit Vs in a SeaFire. Bottom line, I think the Spit V has the edge with all things equal.

Agree with Slap, SpitV seems much lighter/nimble. I'd take it anyday over a Seafire.

I find the differences to be marginal at best.  For all intents and purposes, the Seafire is a Spit V.

I want to see a film of Levi and Sniper dueling spit V's.

I ran into sniper, and he impressed me as incredible.

I've seen incredible Levi spit V films but have being a knight, never ran up against him.

The seafires flaps deploy much more quickly then the spitVs. I find this can compensate for much of the extra 300lbs.
