Title: Opinions on gaming box
Post by: Casca on May 24, 2005, 02:49:16 PM
I'd like to prevail on the collective wisdom of the group before clicking the "move to shopping cart" button on my newegg wish list.  Am building this for the most part to run AH and would like to get opinions on any possible pitfalls of this setup:

EPoX EP-9NPA + SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard.  Has dual PCI Express slots for future expansion.

AMD Athlon 64 4000+ SledgeHammer Integrated into chip FSB Socket 939 CPU

Corsair XMS 512 MB DDR 500 (PC 4000) SDRAM x 4 for a total of 2 gigs.

Aspire 550 Watt power supply.

Sound Blaster Audiology 2

ATI Radeon X800XL 256MB PCI-Express x 16 Video Card

Zalman Cooling Fan

The rest of the system is just parts, anyone see any problems with the above?

Thanks in advance.

I use the same board, it's proven solid so far. The rest looks like a nice lineup. I use the 6800 Ultra myself, but I'm an Nvidia fan. The ATI card is a good runner.

Yes, I can't afford something similar!:(

Seriously, sounds like it will rock!

I'd try to find a fast "San Diego" cpu instead of a sledgehammer.  Smaller process, cooler cpu.

Thanks.  San Diego core is within ten bucks of Sledgehammer or Clawhammer core.  Wishlist changed.
