I bought a used computer it has the following.
HP Pavilion 522n
O/S Windows XP/Home
DVD-rom
cd-writer
Intel Celeron Processor
CPU 1.80 ghz
512 mg ram
60 g. hd
nvida G force MX420 video card
64 meg. memory
Loaded latest version AHII. Set resolution. Bang...White screen, then returns to desk top. Went thru HTC trouble shooting. Turned off Video 8, same problem. Tried again, Video 8 back in HTC - settings- deleted it agian, same problem.
I'm think MX 420 is just not enough card to run game. By the way it's a PCI slot and not AGP. Any help or ideas before I go by a new card? Maybe driver update?
Help!

There are people with older video cards running the game. It could be lots of things though. You didnt say what the sound was, knowing HP its an onboard sound. That could be your problem. Send Skuzzy a copy of your Direct X Diagnostic. I'm sure it can be made to work. I definitely wouldnt put any money into it. You didnt say how much you paid for it, but however much it was I wouldnt spend much more on it for upgrades. Make it work until you can afford better. Sound card may be all you need, who knows?

Makesure u got Directx 9.0c installed. Use 61.77 drivers for the Nvidia video card.
What soundcard u got or is it intergrated?

Downladed the newest driver from Nvidia and all systems are go. By the way, the pos is for my wife and we paid $200.00 bucks for it. Came with a killer sound system from Altec with a 21 crt flat screen. Guess i did alright huh?
She wants to try her hand at AH, so I expect to get my *** kicked by her on a regualr basis. If she turns Rook or Knit, we're getting a divorce. Thanks again!:aok

if u get lockups or CTD's it maybe the new nvidia drivers. The MX base video cards like 61.77 drivers.

Actually, the newest driver is doing ok. I've been running it for several weeks now, and while I have had some lockup "freeze" issues, I think I've traced them to a corrupted Direct X file. One thing I will say is, you should find and download either coolbits or NvTweak. The newer drivers seem to not set the temperature threshold properly in older cards and the fan doesnt kick on early enough. Your MX may not even have a fan. I'd still download the tweak file though, as it allows you to set warnings if the temps get too hot and make other adjustments as well.

Send her on over. Well, I guess I can't say we'll make a man out of her, can I? You get the point. ;)
