Ok I know most of you probably don't follow the show. Most of the previous seasons I quite watching half way through because I hated the contestents. This year was quite different though.
I like the show because it's something I can at least stand to watch AND more importantly it's something I can watch with my wife. Thus something we both like to watch while we "spend time together"
Ok to the point. This year they raised the entrence age to 28 and had some REALLY good contestents. To top it off the finale show tonite featured a guy into southern Alabama rock and a girl that was into country (she's quite easy on the eyes if I might add). BOTH of them can sing very well to say the least and I just have to say this was a great "reality type show" were two people who diserved to be were they were are there.
Anyone else watch this year or am I in an extreme minority here?

"..weeelllllllllllllllllllllll l, alrighty then.
Moving right along.... Big light in the sky slated to appear in the East. Sonic booms scare minority groups in sector 'R', and there's hamburger all over the highway in Mystic , Connecticuit..."

My name is Cougar and I watch American Idol.
You're right, there was some good talent in there. I would give my right, ahem, "dangling participle" to have been the one to discover Carrie Underwood. Bo has the stage presence, but Carrie's voice is pure and untouched. Going to be killer in the studio.
-
Is American Idol still on the air?
I watch very, very few "reality" shows, but NBC has one coming up that looks promising. "Hit Me Baby One More Time" is going to have a bunch of washed up bands from the 80's- 90's like Loverboy, Vanilla Ice, Tiffany, ect., trying to get one more shot at the bigtime. Could be worth watching.
-
If I didn't have to work late, I would've watched the finale this evening and voted for Carrie Underwood.

Look this wasn't all bubble gum pop music this year. Bo bice sang ALOT of good music. he even performed with two guys from lynard skynard when he went home for a day.

no need to explain.
95% of the men on this BBS think they're macho, red-blooded Americans who are "independent" even though they actually just do whatever the next red-neck does to fit in.
-
How can you shreckers watch anything on network television (without tivo)?!
5 minutes of show, 55 minutes of commercials and grabassing.
-
Holy crap...
My wife won't even watch Idol...
Holy crap.......

That's one of the things that makes it barable. Record it at 8PM watch it at 9pm commercial free.

Well then she would look best..No Skuzzy wouldnt like that either.
Ok I'll just say top:)

But seriously though. I ony watch semi regularly and I thought from the 3rd or 4th show on that she was going to be one of the finalists if not the outright winner.
She has the whole package, Looks, personality, stage presence and voice.
I think She will probably be the first AI contestant to become not just an AI winner but an outright Star in her own right.
-
Yeah, I watch American Idol. Wanna fight about it? I run a recording studio so listening to people sing is kinda what I do. You may think it ghey, but my guitar gets me laid way more than a shotgun, pickup truck, or a football addiction ever would.
The show is marketing genius and has managed to filter through the masses to find some genuine talent. By the time the show has delivered a winner the label has an act with priceless exposure and has a singer who can deliver in a real (live) setting. I believe this season has created 3 successful acts in 3 different markets. Vonzell was outstanding and gorgeous; she’s sure to get offers. At this point it doesn’t matter who wins, Bo and Carrie will both have future success. All the previous winners and Clay runner up to Ruben have all had platinum albums. Personally, Kelly Clarckson (http://www.kellyclarksonweb.com/) does it for me, husky voice, girl next door sexy, nuff said.
-
wait a minute... you guys are now telling me that watching american idol now makes you some on the cusp individualist?
Ok... you all got together to see if you could get a rise outta me?
No way I'm fallin for it. Nice try.

Well, I for one was really honked off that Bo didn't win, but his loss may be the best thing that ever happened to him. Instead of having industry types tell him what songs to sing, etc, when he does an album he might be able to do what HE wants to do.
The rules of American Idol, and its cousin, Canadian Idol really tick me off. I tried out for Canadian Idol last year and got a rave review in the tryouts until they asked me how old I was (34 at the time). Oops, no one over 26, sorry about that  .

It was really cool seeing him perform with lynard skynard last night. That's gotta be a huge dream come true.

A new Lynyrd Skynyrd is formed in September 1987 comprising Rossington, Powell, Pyle, Wilkeson, King, Johnny Van Zant (vocals), Randall Hall ( a long-time friend of the band and member of The Allen Collins Band), along with Dale Krantz Rossington and Carol Bristow on background vocals. The band makes their first public appearance at the Charlie Daniel's Volunteer Jam XIII and will eventually perform more than 30 dates on a reunion tour, marking the tenth anniversary of the fatal plane crash.
most of those names were either in the original band or came shortly there after.
the only band members to die in the plane crash you speak of is:
On October 20th 1977, tragedy would strike the band as Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines (Steve's sister and one of Skynyrd's back-up singers), and road manager Dean Kilpatrick are killed when the band's rented plane (short on fuel) crashes into a swamp in Gillsburg, Mississippi, while en route to a gig at Louisiana University. Rossington, Collins, Powell, and Wilkeson are all seriously injured but survive the crash.
now granted they havnt done much of anything since 1977 BUT I would imagine anyone from the south and into "souther rock" would find it a dream to play and perform "sweet home" on stage live in front of millions. I know I'd be honored.
-
was Lynyrd Skynyrd
saw them one stop b4 the crash in 77 over in St. Pete when I was in college
whatever formed after that was not the Lynyrd Skynyrd
you do know some consider that song very racist as it mentions ex-AL gov George Wallace in a favorable way
-
yep... I seen what I think was their last concert in Oakland.
