I am pretty computer illiterate but I never see a mac computer except in the movies and then every one you see (laptops) has some half eaten fruit symbol on it.
Does mac pay these guys to use em in their movies or are the movie guys that out of touch with the rest of us?

I'll "bite"
Yes, they prolly do pay cause if i am not mistaken product placement is key to making lots of movies and series in hollywood.
Whats the problem?
I see plenty of macs in the real world btw.

I’ve noticed the same thing; here’s what I figure: Macs look slick and sparkly. Movies and TV like slick and sparkly.

Like I said... I don't know anything about computers but I never see mac laptops in real life... I suppose that ice bears like em but I have no way of knowing.
what do you mean they look slick? they look the same to me except for the logo of the half eaten apple.

ya dont see alot of custom hot rods on the street either, doesnt mean they arnt out there. Just working in their own area. Macs used to be (still mostly are) the preference for graphic arts and video editing. the kind of stuff them hollywierd types be into.
-
Product placement is big business. We get approached all the time to pay up for having our stuff in a TV show or movie. So far we tell 'em to pound sand.
BTW we get our stuff in movies all the time cause everyone wants one in the show. Mostly our affiliate that makes these:

You'll see one in every NASA movie.

Their design is pretty good compared to most regular windows computers. The Sony Vaio's come close, but Powerbooks and iBooks looks pretty sweet to me.
(im biased tho.. typing this on my 12" PB)

Theres also a fair number of Mac users in the photography and graphics side of things, and Mac users tend to be fairly rabid one eyed fans of the product so they try and get the damn things in every picture they can.

Their iBooks are made by the same company thats makes HP/Compaq, and their Powerbooks are made by Asus. I'm typing this on my Asus W1 which beats the pants off any Mac for style ;)

Well... thats a matter of taste Vulcan, but I agree... Some of the Asus models looks good.

I think that it may be the work settings veiwed.
I use both Mac and PC, but for very different things. If i want to play games, or need more variety in general apps, I use my PC. For runnning heavy progams and multitasking, I use my Mac G5.
To me they are very different machines with distinct advantantages. I tend to do more of my work (that requires alot of graphic processing) on the Mac, but most other things I do on PC.
I would not say that Macs are the best for all kinds of work, as I have friends that are into more scientific feilds that love a good PC with Linux over anything.
I do understand what you are saying though. I see alot of silly positioning on TV. I watched this show called CSI awhile back, and saw someone pretending to use a genome sequencing program on a Mac (and as far as I know) there is no such program for Mac, but I could be wrong.
-
Yup they use mac's on CSI.
Not everytime by far, but quite often when you actually look at the screens and apps that are used in TV and the movies, they dont show real apps or operating systems. Thy use cool looking stuff that are also big and easy to see for us. The software they use on CSI is one exsample, but you also have all those e-mail softwares and stuff we have seen over the years.

Yeah, I seriously doubt that you will see many Macs (if any) in a scientific setting. Now, if it were a show about a bunch of people making movies, that would be different. It is very strange to see that stuff, kind of like waching someone trying to replace a screw with a wrench.

the ones I see in the movies are just grey laptops that look like any other except for the big half eaten fruit symbol.
Dixon is not the laptop capital of the world but... all the salesmen that visit are using PC laptops.

My ex wife used some kind of genome sequencing software on mac, it apparently didn't exist on PC back then (2000 ish). There used to be client versions of SAS on mac only back then too.
Can't stand the thing myself... how the *** can you use that ball thing they call a mouse?

I don't stop if there are less than 500000 heads (not talking about cattle, mind you). Was born a city slicker(sp?).. will die one :)
Whenever i have to spend more than two days in the countryside, i start running after cars to inhale whatever comes out of the exhaust...

Cool! I had no idea they had that. The people I,ve met had a system designed just for science apps, a PC with some form of Linux. I wonder if they have a new program..I'll have to check that out!
I hate the Mac mouse, It was the first thing I switched on mine. I really don't know what they were thinking with that single button crap!
