Title: Graphics Issues
Post by: SteffK on May 28, 2005, 06:38:43 AM
I was wondering if you guys could help please?

I keep getting a screen freeze on AH.

When I look around or just as I am about to shoot at someone it freezes.

I am running:

MoBo: ASUS K8N-E Deluxe 754 pin
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 2.5Ghz
DDR RAM: 1Gb
Graphics: Radeon X800 Pro 256Mb 8x AGP
Hard Drives: 80Gb IDE and 120Gb SATA (OS on 80, game on 120)
OS: Windows XP x64 Extended for AMD Athlon.
Graphics Drivers: ATi Catalyist 5.5 x64 Drivers.
Joystick: Saitek X-52
(All my machine drivers are x64, and what a beatch they are to find :))

I have AH HiRes pack, cache enabled, 1024 video set-up, unlimited frame rate, Low details set up, animated water.

I used to be able to get a frame rate of over 100, on Windows XP standard, but now it only goes as high as 61 and I get the freezes!!!!

Any help will be gratefully appreciated and 1 free kill offered S!

I would suggest running in 512 texture size for starters.  While you have a pretty fast system, there are not many out there that can run in 1024 texture size with out some stutters in the video.  The only time your really notice texture size quality is looking out your window at your wing...you see the nice little pannel lines in great detail.  In the heat of a mission you will never notice the differance between 512 & 1024.  Also animated water is very taxing on the system.

I have have a 3.12 ghz pentium, same video card, 1gig 400mhz ddr ram, Audigy 2ZS sound card & I can not get rid of the stutters in the 1024 texture size.  I can have 85 frames per second but will get nasty little stutters at all the wrong times.

I am running AH in 1280x1024 res, 2xt3 antialiasing, 4x antistropic filtering(performance), 512 texture size, animated water is off, detail sliders about 1/3 over from LEFT.  The game will run smooth as silk, 60 to 85fps flying with medium range (shift-f2).  If I goto ground vis range it will drop into the 20's.

Make sure everthing is off in background, you can get xp down to about 15-18 proccesses running.

I am pretty sure there is not a system made that can run AH maxed out in detail, in the game & on the card.  So its a matter of finding what setting you like the best, just spend some time changing settings & observing visuals & performance.  I can completely choke my sytem if I max out detail sliders in AH & set video card maxed out.

I still have not seen any benifit to running 1024 texture size other than "ooo look at pretty panel lines on my wing".  But it will definately cause texture thrashing.

imho chrispy
