Title: Instructions on how to get the best enjoyment from an online flight sim:
Post by: Ripsnort on January 17, 2001, 08:48:00 AM
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ENJOYING ONLINE SIMS:

1. Take into account that great achievements involve great risk.

2. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.

3. Follow the three R's: Respect for self Respect for others and Responsibility for all your actions.

4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.

5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.

6. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

7. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

8. Spend some time OFFLINE every day.

9. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.

10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

11. In disagreements with online friends, deal only with the current situation.  Don't bring up the past.

12. Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality.

13. Be gentle with the newbies.

14. Once a month, do a mission you've never done before.

15. Remember that the best friendship is one in which your respect for each other exceeds your dislike for each other.

Well, Santa, I could have added this one:

Quote
17) Fly all the aircraft, and never be bitter and constantly whine about your particular 'special interest' A/C unless you have facts and hard data to back up your claim.

..but it would only apply to about 3 or 4 players of the thousands in AH.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Westy: We all could do well to practice a few points..

Sky-bax, what I mean is, there's more to life than spending an entire day online, and taking 'a break' can sometimes help with tension that online sims can induce in ones behavior while online.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)  In other words, GET A LIFE! Hehe, just kidding.

Ripsnort,

Very well said, and very true.

Except the part about newbies  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Whenever I suspect a newbie I immediately fly toward them and rape them repeatedly  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/eek.gif)
Sometimes I even contemplate changing changing countries so I can abuse rookies from all sides.

Seriously I try to be nice to all newbies, and I almost never tell them that hitting the "enter" key three times will make their plane go faster.

BTW Rip, the last mission we flew together last night was awesome. The equivalent of being in a bar room brawl and fighting back to back until your the last two people standing. <S>

Also Rip, you forgot to mention our love of working out. It really gets you in the mood to kill somebody. I have seen you mention that you can bench 500 lbs. I thought I'd post our pictures to let everyone see our progress...

Twas a blast, and did you notice that they noticed the teamwork, thus being outnumbered they did not decide to chase us when we egressed?     (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)  I think we had 11-12 kills between us when my last casing ejected...<S>

HBlair, 500 lbs'??? HAHA,NO WAY! Hehe, my max 1 rep bench was 315 last summer. (3X45's each side, plus 45 lb bar) Hblair, are pic links broke? No vis, tried IE as well...

Heya Nuttz,

I'm from that side of the Tacony dude. I went to George Washington High. I'm from the Northeast.

What high school did you go too? I used to work out at BodyTech Gym on Torresdale Ave. and Powerhouse when it was on Castor Ave.

We probably know each other. 6 Degrees of separation you know. I'm 10 minutes from Roger Wilco (Big booze store for all thos wondering).

BTW, You should know better than to mess with Jersey cops. They don't fire warning shots.

Rip,

It seemed like the bogies just kept coming up. It was amazing that we both survived considering how many Osties were on the field as well.

You can really get the teamwork down with Roger Wilco. Typing is impossible in that situation. By the end I think they had definitely had enough of us.

We have something else in common. I am also stuck at 315lbs on the Bench. Been there for a while. I' a little heavy for me this year (180lbs) so maybe I'll get past it in the spring (when I get serious again). Next AH Con we can have the first AH bench meet, hehe.

Good list Rip.

Wasn`t sure that was what you meant.

Thought you possibly were talking about flying off-line mode. I never did, and think it creates bad habits. Not to mention boring.

As far as flying time, I keep mine short. It keeps you sharp.

The days I do fly is 2 to 5 sorties, about 45 minutes a sortie.

And I`ll take a few days off to reflect on my mistakes.

Fly too much, and you lose the edge.

Fly too little, and you get rusty.

You're a 180 lbs. benching 315? <S> !  I'm 200 lbs..but hey, at almost 41 years old, I'll take it!  BTW, the Harvey has a so-called 'Gym' but it consists of treadmills, so we'll have to find a gym elsewhere in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area if you want to go lift one day down there..start saving your pennies, the Con is Cool!

The rest of you after F4U's post, ROTFLOL, if I had rules, and boobs, like that, I'd be doing the tango for private parties at $200 bucks a minute!

Nuttz,

Yeah, we can go to Chickies any time. I luv that place. Next time you see Joel, tell him he is a "pizza eating bastard". He will know you have been taking to me. He doesn't own that place though, it belongs to Mike and Ted Lescus. Joel used to own the little restaurant. That gym is like a corner bar. I used to spend hours just hanging out there.

Rip,

Yeah I'm compact. I used to do bench meets at the Gym mentioned above. But I stopped when some guy came in at 168LBS and put up 455lbs. It just fried my head. I'm 33 and have been training since high school. Can't wait for the next Con. My next adventure is this though.  http://www.aircombatusa.com/ (http://www.aircombatusa.com/)

Feb. 17th. I'll bring the video to the Con. Hope I don't puke.

Later
