HT,
Hey thanks for the great game. I remember reading a year or so back at SimHQ an interview that you spoke about the possibility in the future to develop a level below the current water level for subs. I'm just curious with TOD taking most of your development time if this is still on the back-burner or did you decide that it isn't worth the difficulty or the time to develop?
Although I would love to see them I understand that other things may have shifted your focus. Any update in your thinking would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Higgins

Should be ready in two weeks, I heard.
;)

Are we gonna get depth charges to kill em?
-
Lets at least first be able to crash into the water.
-
Pretty Please!
Its a huge step in development,
Just thinking about it is hard work, but I would do it like this.
1. Water that can boats move in, would be first along with underwater terrain (Sea Bed)
2.A Uboat, (preferably a TypeVII with Wintergarten to shoot down attacking aircraft :D)
3.Detachable Destroyers, players could command the Destroyers, other players could join the ship as AAA gunners.
4. Frieghters,Tankers, Troop Transports. Like the Barges in game, these ships would sail from friendly port to port.

:lol
I doubt HT have ever given subs any thought let alone development time. It's always been more of a idea talked about in the forums then anything from HT. Bit like TOD really. :lol
If you want subs you'll have to stick with SH3

HT has given it some thought. He even said in an interview how he'd like to introduce them into the game at some point.
ack-ack

You're thinking far too small. We'd need a Type IXD2, with Turm. 3 antiaircraft setup. One quad 20mm flak, two twin 20mm flak. Only then would it survive in the MA :D

Bahhhh....
Type IX's are ugly, If Aces High Maps were 3 or 4 times bigger than they are now, then I could see having them.
-
It seems the groundwork for the submarines has already been added into the game - in the form of the wafer thin cloud layer.
The way I see it, that cloud layer can be given a different texture, set to zero feet for altitude and presto, the water is there. The terrains can then be built with negative altitudes to represent underwater.
Make a change to the ships so that they cruise at the fixed altitude of zero feet, give the sub a flight model that lets it maneuver around at all altitudes below zero feet and there you go, submarines.

We'll have the subs in two weeks like TalonX said.
-
You know it will be getting close when you see HT flying a U-boat around at 400mph...
Anyone remember the flying PT boat in AH2 beta?

Well, with the maps as small as they are, we'd be lucky to get a Type II by that reasoning.
I dunno, I guess I just like Type IX boats. Who needs looks, when you got brute force by your side! :aok

He has, and even mentioned them at the last con.
I might be wrong, but IMHO I think HTC realized a long time ago the potential success of the WWIIOL type of game play. Aces High will always have the focus of air combat, but I firmly believe they will add many more combat elements to enhance the MA play options and the TOD.

And what about the stations inside, physics, damage modeling, torp modeling etc etc. Then the added merchant ships to the game and strategy environment to make subs even worth the time. Not to mention the sea and graphics which in current state are apalling at sea level.
What you describe would equal a 10 year old console version of a sub sim.

So you are saying that HT is not really developing TOD, just talking about it? And what do you know what the plans HT may or may not have for subs?
You know nothing, that's what.
Just more negative, know it all Gixer with nothing good to say about anything.

Check this interview out. (http://www.wargamer.com/articles/aces_high_interview/page3.asp) Look in the middle of the page.
We got HiTech cornered!
:lol

And yet another personal insult from Nuke from who knows where and what direction they always appear. :lol

Subs would be interesting, but I worry about comp performance. It wasn't that long ago that I upgraded purely to play AH2.

1.99 weeks away.
Good read Paul.

Err, um...Hitech?
Thanks for the input guys. Just was hoping to get some update from Hitech or Pyro on this. Thanks in advance.

You need water depth to make subs work best. But since the ships "sink", even if the rest of the CV disappears below the water line..a sub could do the same, and be just below the surface. Showing up when surfaced..a scope when submerged and scope up, and no vis on him when he is submerged scope down. Since aircraft only dropped depth charges on "just submerging" subs anyway...and since we have no indiviual control of the DDs, it doesnt matter anyway.
Certain planes could get a depth charge bomb option to load. And it could catch subs on the surface in transit, or on scopes if seen. Beyond that the origin of torpedo wakes could be used for an aim point. Basically it could be a slow pt boat, with much better armor, that has more torps, and can disappear "under" the sea after a few minutes of dive order.
