Title: Son in Iraq.

I finally heard from my son in Iraq, he is doing well and is safe. Now I have an email address for him and can communicate that way. I dont have to check the online casualty lists anymore to see if he is still alive. (THAT.....was incredibly nerve wracking.)

yup,

same here.  let us know from time to time how he's doing.  I wish him the best and to keep his head down.  As a salty Corporal told me once: "don't bunch up"

Hope he comes home safe sir, and tell him Thank You for doing something most people my and his age wont do.  Fight for this country!  Besure to tell him also to keep his butt down and God Speed!

He's a Combat Engineer, atm all they are doing is escorting supply convoys in from Kuwait.

Elfie.

I have two sons that served in Iraq. The oldest was with the 4th ID in Tirkrit. He left in April 2003 , and returned in 2004. Like your son he did a lot of convoy escorts , and endless patrols. His younger brother a member of the 1st Cav just got back home this past March after 14 months. His MOS was tank crewman, but he never touched a tank while over there. Like your son and his older brother, patrols and convoy escorts.

  Thomas my younger son was wounded the day his older brother Travis, returned from Iraq. A morter hit behind the humvee he was manning the top gun of. He was very lucky , three shrapnel wounds in his left sholder. The Army doctors plucked it out of him , sewed him up and he was back on duty a few days later. His unit fought in Fallugia along with the Marines back in November. I'm very proud of both of my sons.
I'm very lucky to have them home safe.

I'll keep your son in my prayers along with the rest of the troops. I know what you are going through , every bit of bad news I would hear on the radio while driving during the day would make me fear the dreaded phone call, or Army staff car outside my home. I didnt have a good nights sleep for over two years. yeat all of that is nothing compared to what our kids are going through in Iraq, and Afhgahnistan.
