I think I'm done. No really. All the way done.
Too late for screenshots, just going to put the uncompressed BMP in for a look.

White tail a little to white.
MAKE it dirty the wings i think u could do better come on.
Scratches i mean. :D Other than that looks good.:aok
-
Hard to say without seeing a screenshot of the plane...
But I dont necessary agree with Chimp. The tail doesnt become as dirty as the underside of the wings. But it *could* be to white.. need to see it "in action" to decide...

Come on ITS WHITE rich people can't even keep there white cars clean lol.
-
Okay I've dimmed the white slightly with a low opacity layer of grey over the top of it.
However I totally SUCK at wing scratches. I admit they look butt-ugly. Any suggestions on that?
EDIT: Wing scratches in-game (that's not the final skin, old screenshot, but the scratches have not changed since then)

Look at Greebo's Weathering post. Its just a few below this one.
-
I did! It just didn't take!
-
To do paint chips, he's saying to take a 1 pixel airbrush in light grey and make the paint chips. Make them a little larger than you actually want. Afterwards, use a low opacity eraser and erase around the edges.
-
That's what I did for paint chips. THAT part looks okay, if I do say so myself. What looks horrible is the scuffed paint by the foot-traffic areas.
-
Ahh, that. Id do the same thing as the chips, but make it bigger. Take out larger chunks on the wingroot there and then use the eraser.
-
But the problem is that most LW planes dont' have bare metal showing even in that area. Not like a P40 or anything. They were well maintained and kept clean and painted. So it's a trick trying to get scuffs but not wholesale paint loss.
Know what? Screw it, "These aren't the scuffmarks you're looking for" *waves fingers*
Viola! No more problem :) Scuffs removed! It's been cleaned and repainted recently. Maybe just a bit of paint discoloration, eh? As if it has been touched up.
-
Why don't u use 20px brush light gray color and paint there make the paint look wore not chipped off. Err forgot make the flow really low.
-
Why not take a low opacity eraser and fade out some of the colors. Its still there, but faded moreso than other parts.
-
looks nice......
the "paint" chips like too much like a pencil line, and the pilot only got in on the lfet side....
like i mentioned in too many posts to list, on the top of the wings in pictures 3 feet away almost no rivets are visible... i think many make the rivet lines too strong and too many.. thats just my opinion.
it is a greta job on the red stripes
the cowlo, if i got hammered for not enought dirt well LOL, with the stretching it is too hard to make "realistic" gun dirt residue
sir

Yes JB, I do recall your posts on the rivets. In fact throughout this project the rivets were turned off. I wanted to see what could be done without them. So instead of having the rivets on I took both rivet layers and blurred the crapola out of them and then changed their opacity (giving the discolored areas, which I'm not entirely keen on, but they add *something* to the skin)
-
in the screen shots they look fine (a bit too close together) but overall not "obtrusive"
it is funny how much changes from the flat BPM you look at and the finished in game product lol
BTW you use "bright" to make the 256 color image, or paint shop / photoshop ?
i think the white lines of the iron cross need to be wider
-
I checked the crosses.. There are varrying sources. I went with narrow width crosses. EDIT: I'm thinking of adding low-opacity black inside the crosses... Think of the yellow nosed 109F4 skin, it would be something like that. There are some sources with black (faded) and some without any black at all. I consider it a minor touch, but could easily add it.
Check the new BMP in this post. That's one benefit to posting the BMP as opposed to a screenshot -- people can save as, and check it out for themselves in AH.
I have bright. I know some people swear by it. In some circumstances I use it. What I do is export both, then compare. In THIS case, bright looked like arse, so I left it and used the much better looking PS 5.0 indexed color conversion.
My last 190, however, used bright, which seemed to come out cleaner than what PS 5.0 made.

If the paint doesnt come off dont make it come off.
What you can do is just make it more dirty in that area as the traffic up the wings with "dirty shoes" would dirty it down. So just do some heavier weathering in that region.

Good idea
-
what happend to the rivets?
-
The rivets weren't there. What was there was a layer making the paint fade where the rivets would be. For the second BMP I turned that layer off, to show what I've had up until recently.
To tell the truth, I could go without the rivets, myself. Have to check it out in-game more.
-
The oil smudge looks weird to me.
-
i say it looks great, keep the rivets, just keep opacity where it was.
did you make the font for the numbering? or get it from somewhere?
-
It's a font. Blockschriftfur...somethingor other
-
I agree keep the planelines and rivets on....
-
Okay thanks for the opinions. I'll have them back on in the final version. Right now I'm waiting for Chimp to get back to me about some mysterious idea he wanted to play around with on my PSP file.
Other things:
I'm gonig to delete all paint chipping and just add black smudge-like marks where the paint would be walked on.
I think the reason the exhaust looks wierd is the way it blends with the other layers, it makes the center of the exhaust look lighter (which just looks odd!) so I'll re-work that layer so that effect doesn't show up.
After that I'm sending it in!
-
Well u never said anything.
Grrr
<----------Lazy....
Send it or not im not doing work for u just wanted to see if u liked it.
-
skychimp? Why the anger?
I am curious, I wanted to see what you have to suggest! I meant no criticism or anything. Just saying I'm going to do this, then that, then that. And one of the things I was going to do was wait and see what you wanted to show me. No rush. No hurry. Just letting y'all know what I was thinking of doing.
EDIT: P.S. I sent the file a day after I got your e-mail (was busy). You should have it in your inbox. If not let me know.
-
I dident get it :(
-
Hrm... I'll send an e-mail (without attachment) to the return address of the one that you sent me, to check the addy.
