How many people have shot at an A6m for example and watched it fly around in a fireball seemingly endlessly dogfighting still? Or any other plane that displays a nice fireball that appears to consume the cockpit? I don't think a pilot is going to be sticking around in there as the temp and metal heat up and toxic fumes spew.
Would be nice to have a time limit to identify your plane is flamed and you must bail to prevent getting KILLED or if you decide not to bail then poof you die anyway.

There already is a time limit, you just don't know how long. Sometimes you explode within a fwe seconds sometimes you can fly around long. Zeke's tend to fly around for long.

I'd like to explode in a huge ball of fire as a 20MM hits my main gas tank or something. Perhaps the longer you fly the hotter the metal gets making it bend and warp. But I see what you're saying the zekes that seem to fly for about a minute or so without dying, why would or how could you stay in a cockpit filled with smoke? It would be a very trying real life experience thats for sure.

What you want is a time limit, if you don't bail before this time limit, you die. Correct?
It's there already, just not with a gamish time-bar. If I am still missing the point please clearify it for me.

zeros not only fly around like a meteor with flames everywhere And add in the 1 wingers!!! 1 wing ,flames, missing other critical parts and! out running other planes lmao!!!! before the explosion occurrs , If! it ever does. sigh..... it's ok they'll get it fixed :)

At the very least, any plane that has a fire spewing from the engine or one of the wings should get an EXTREME loss in flight performance instantly even if the pilot decides not to bail out.
Realisticly, pilot would bail out as soon as such a fire started. In game, no one cares about that virtual life, so keep flying and try to take the bad guy with you.
If fire from the engine on centerline then effect on forward vision should be even worse than oil splatter we have now. If fire from behind the cockpit, effect of rudder and or elevators would be greatly dimished in the very disturbed airflow created by the heat of the fire, similar to effect already seen for elevator or rudder loss.
If fire from either wing, consider massive loss of lift on that wing, similar or worse effect than when the wingtip is damaged.
I know its all a game, but we should be able to ignite a plane on fire and then discount it as a threat, rather than having to worry that the soon-to-be-dead pilot is still flying with no hinderence to performance of his aircraft.

I've been on both sides of this, and I honestly think something is a bit amiss. I would think that a plane with fabric covered wings or control surfaces would be almost immediately crippled by a fire in the fuselage or on the wing. Being the dweeb that I am, I often try to ditch as soon as possible when I am on fire, but I do feel a bit more courageous in the a6m. I honestly don't know what the time limit is, but you do eventually lose the entire wing, be it zeke, 38, 110 or spit. Maybe a word or 2 from HT would help us understand what the constraints actually are...

Dont forget -- flame is a GRAPHIC, not a real fire. In the game its function is to show critical damage that will soon result in catastrophic failure. HTC has added a delayed damage feature that is really cool, but they have to make its presence obvious -- and flame is a good way for all to see taht the clock is ticking.
Imagine what the whines would sound like if main spar damage was modelled, but without the falme graphic --
"WTF? I was jsut flying, and nobody had hit me (ed. -- in the last 60 seconds), and my plane jsut fell apart!! Stinking lag!! This game sucks!!"

Simaril, that sounds good, but damage like that could be better represented to the pilot with a new sound effect like a very loud twisting of metal sound.
Fire is an entirely different representation and its effect should be that of fire.

i snap main spars from time to time, but only in bombers from too much weight + too much speed nosing over.
graphic representation? blood on canopy isn't just graphic representation, affects are almost felt right after it appears. Why can't same thing be done with fireball? ALso the zekes did not have self sealing fuel tanks and that was a big cause of them azzploding when hit not simply a fire appearing almost indefinitley

I personally always see this, and not to mention the guys that will come in and blow him up getting the kill. Im not sure if they should catch of fire so easly. I really think if a zero gets hit in fuel tank. It blows up instanly, one this would stop it from being heavly overflown in furballs, and I WOULD LOVE it :)

Matrix fuel tanks don't just explode that easily.
Granted get the right fuel air mix in one, drop a .50 api round through it and it "Might" explode. But I've seen enough fires in vehicles, tractors, etc to know that not every fire will cause the fuel tank to go BOOM.
In fact the opposite is true, 80 percent of the time the fire will burn until help arrives without exploding.
The real secret to zekes is when you have em on fire, give em one more burst. No more zeke, no more fire, no more problem.
The trick is getting that last burst in.
I do agree that that kind of raging fire "Should" disrupt aerodynamics more than it seems to now.

they should take into account that zeros didnt have self sealling fuel tanks and that a fuel tank shot meant poof goes the japanese man, that was the main problem with most japanese planes, no self sealing fuel tanks, and the sad thing is it would have made all there planes sooo much better and would have only added about an extra 80lbs... its like all the WWII pilots used to say, if a bug hit the windshield of a zero it would explode... all american and german planes should be able to trail fire for a while, but the second a japenese planes fuel is hit it should go poof, both wings explode off and the fuselage does too, let not forget these things are also made of real cheap wood, and wood burns very well, a single .50 cal round to the fuel tank on a zeke or frank or niki should make them explode and go poof

fuel tanks on planes do explode very easily and, come to think of i don't think any plane has ever been successfully landed in real life with a fire in the gas tank, any plane has a fire in the fuel tank your toast, no long fires anything like that, just boom, not even 2 seconds after the spark, especially jap planes, this isn't ordinarly tractor fuel, given its not rocket fuel either, but to the japs that was there 1 weakness, it wasnt that they were slow, or couldnt climb very well or dive, that didnt bother them, it was that if a bullet came close to the tanks, they exploded, and it just happened that the japs put the tanks in the most vulnerable positions to ade in mobility and turning...all jap planes were designed horribly wrong, made of the cheapest materials ( wood ) possible, had horrible trouble prone engines, and they didnt even use self sealing fuel tanks... all jap planes are modeled way to strong in this game, in real life they were hunk of junk death traps... 10 zeros couldnt match up against one wildcat in WWII
