I hooked up my pedals in ah2 again last week. Ive been having some success bnz'ing but they are hard to get use to. Im told they will become second nature..Im a furball guy however and im having some difficulty with gunnery. The pedals have made defensive moves alot easier though. How long did it take you to get use to yours? (anyone)

rudder input has a huge effect on aim now
used to be able to kick rudder in, slide by and hit a plane more than not. now I miss more than I hit...
-
I've had mine for maybe 6 months or so. I would say it took me about a month or so to start pushing the right pedal without thinking. Took me longer to stop trying to twist my stick!:D I think i was doing that for months, then one day i realised i stopped doing it. It took me about 2 months, maybe 3 to be fully confident with the pedals.

about a month or so

Uhu... no surprise there :D

Roflol omg Saw, you're sick :lol
I always wanted some pedals, problem is; they're more expensive than most sticks!
But I'll have a go

Maybe a month or two until it was completely second nature.
-
A while for sure, not sure how long. Of all my HOTAS controllers, rudders took the longest to get used to and feel natural.
-
Was 3 week to a month. Couldn't do without them now. The con thats fast on your 6. Barrel roll with rudder and the suckers right past into your gunsite. Could'nt do that with me twisty. You'll get used to them.:aok
-
yea lynx i notices its much easier to force an overshoot..i kick hard left than right with scissors and they really do go right by ya. The thing is i vever even thought about rudder when using the twisty..Ill give it some more time. thanx all

I don't have to mess with any of that silly pedal stuff:aok

Been using rudder pedals since the first Thrustmaster RCS in '92-'93 I think. I use CH pedals now and I could do without a throttle but not them.
-
I guess its easier to force overshoots because rudders induce drag and slow you down?
Just curious, is it really easy to feel if CH rudders are centered?
I used to have some TM rudders and was usually dragging to one side (it was hard to feel when they were center). It didn't matter much in AW, but here I think it would kill your e.
-
CH Pro Pedals have a very distinct center.

I just bought a set off ebay. I'm looking forward to getting them and seeing the difference.
Now I get to die even easier for awhile I guess.:lol
-
CH pro's are VERY nice.2 months and your a natural and the diffrence between useing rudder and twisting your stick is huge.No comparison.:D

With this you don't need the game at all!

It shouldn't take you more than a couple of hours to get used to the pedals. When I first got my CH Pro Pedals, it only took a few hours of flying to get used to them.

Well u must be a natural akak. Im starting to get better but each plane seems to have a little different feel to it. Im enjoying seeing the new tricks I can pull off though :) Man what a scissors the 109 can do now with no icing down the wrist aftwards lol
-
i switch between peds (Work) and a twisty(home) .. the worse part is remembering which one im on.. if i could get my steering wheel peds to work w/ the twisty at home id have peds here too.

When I first got my pedals, it was in '95 and I was still in AW4W. Being an old DOS based game, which probably made them easier to get used to since they weren't as sensative as they are in AH.

Agreed. If my MS Sidewinder cost $20.00 (counting shipping and handling!) I sure as heck can't put out $150.00 on a pair of rudder pedals, especially when I have to get a new comp anyways.
Are there any leads on CHEAP pedals? I mean cheap in cost, but at least adequate (or maybe "decent") in quality?
I only ever hear of CH pedals. And CH is synonymous with "$$".
-
CH is also synonomous with serious play.If ya fly a butt load,ya want good equiptment and as far as immersion,ya cant beat it.
-
$150? I thought they were closer to 100 or 110. I really love the CH Flight stick (i just hope the hat holds out) and was thinking about getting the pedals. I think I'll keep the x45 for throttle. I just wonder if one plays maybe 15 - 30 hours a month if its worth the extra for the pedals. Also mostly I fly a spit so do I even need them? I have emergency rudders on the x45 as a rocker, but I never use them. $150 aint gonna break me but I'd hate to waste money (especially when there are rib eyes to buy).

Dont buy direct from CH.Thats the 150 tag.get it through distributors at around 100.I got the pedals and CH Fighter stick for 200 shipped.
-
I got the non-USB pedals off Ebay for $64 including shipping. Add in a $16 dollar USB-converter and I spent $80 in all.

Hrm... Still too much :(
If it were more like $60 or so I might be able to afford a set in a few weeks.
So back to the original question: What are the non-CH options?
-
Saitek evo or a microsoft. I think ive seen some logitech pedals not sure how good they are.
-
LogiCrap (a.k.a. "Crapitech") doesn't count.
