Title: a separate forum for prayer/religion/bereavement threads
Post by: beet1e on June 10, 2005, 01:33:39 AM
Not a troll.

I acknowledge the value that some people ascribe to such topics as prayer and religion. But there seems to be so many such threads these days. Wouldn't it be better if they could have their own forum? Here are my reasons for suggesting this: Just a suggestion - nothing more.

  • Volume - would justify a separate forum.[/B]
Do us a fav and tell us exactly when the last prayer thread was posted. Shouldn't be hard, in light of your concern for the matter. Do a search on "prayer" or something. When was the last one? In terms of "volume", care to crunch some numbers? Give us the alarming ratio. I don't think it's gonna help your argument.

But I could be wrong. You care. Post the math.

nash - do a search on god/prayer/religion -  I got  1373 hits, 179 in the past year. That's about 3 per week.

Like I said - it was just a suggestion, nothing more.

Uhm.... no... sorry.... no.

Threads mentioning god and religion and prayer do not equal prayer threads.

Take another stab at it.

Like I said - 3 subtopics. Oh what the heck...

Post by: Nash on June 10, 2005, 02:25:10 AM
3 sub-topics? By that you mean god, religion and prayer?

You jam those 3 words into a search engine and come up with 3 threads a week? That's not much to complain about.

And.... like, if I say "Golly-geeN I love Dr. Pepper", that'd be included, right? Yet another religios thread included in the overwhelming 3 per week? Out of what.... 50? 75 per week?

Lets quit ignoring the obvious. Your post was inspired by Awmac's.

We've kind of put the lie to prayer thread's cramping the BBS' style. So what bothers you about Awmac asking for prayer?

No Nash, actually it was a thread that appeared to be about snakes! AWMac asked for prayers once before, and I gave him my best wishes. He will remember that.

My suggestion was inspired in part by the fact that my Chess Club BBS does indeed have a "Spirituality" forum, which is described thus:
Quote
Debate and general discussion of the supernatural, religion, and the life after.
There's no easy way to search for threads in the genre. Even the absence of those three words (prayer/god/religion) does not define the thread as secular. Other keywords would need to be included in the search eg. Catholicism, Judaism, Protestant.

God is good, God is all powerful...so why do terrible things happen to people?

hell if I could have prevented some child being killed for no reason I'd have done something about it -I don't get religion, to me JC and the boys are on a par with the tooth fairy and father xmas.

And don't even get me started on paedophilia in the church.....

So what?

Do a search on politics... bet you get more.  Let me guess, you want a seperate forum for politics too?

This is not the first time you've whined about prayers being asked for.  If you want to be bereft of religion that's fine, you are free to spend eternity in hell.  You have no business  making thinly veiled attacks on those who wish to discuss it.

Perhaps you'd like to have a few beers w/ me in a hotel room.  I am pretty certain who would end up w/ a broken arm.

:rofl

In fact... I don't even want chess to be mentioned here.... god kills a puppy everytime chess is mentioned.

I suppose the AW Mac thread prompted this.

Personally, I'm not religious, but if someone wants to reach out to others while in pain -- well, most of us do have some human compassion. It's not like people are asking us for prayers for their upcoming history final.

I think they are hokey as well and never reply in them. However, I would never have started a thread saying so. I don't think most of the requests are insincere but most of the replies sure seem so.

I just avoid them. What's so hard about that beetle?

im sorry, but i consider you all to be my friends...so i cant possibly fathom why i would even consider posting berievement threads elsewhere.  i mean really.  its just silly.

please.  noone else post here.  i think that we can agree that its bonkers, not to mention highly disrespectful of our brothers.

lets let this thread go away asap.

no more posts here.  dont take the bait.
