Gamespot.com has a 24 hour contract with EA to host the demo first..... go get it boys!
Im 30% done DL at 175kb/sec its a 555.9 mb demo.
-
Please don't tell me you paid to download that... :(
-
Of course he did.
ack-ack
-
Free downloads on GS....just all download servers are slow and full.
-
So... Anyone have a bittorrent link?
If I had the file I could host it with bittorrent but I'm upload capped so people would have to play nice and keep BT running after the DL completed, otherwise it would suck.
If anyone gets the whole file and can get it to me, I'll host it so everyone can get it but first I gotta get the file.

sweet 4 hours to go. i love sleep/.
-
As an experiment, I'm going to host it with Azureus bittorrent.

I don't have superfast upload speeds but like all BT files, if people who download it leave BT running then the transfer speeds will pick up.

yep i d/l it in about 20 mins.
the first time i've seen a second edition of a game actually better than the first.
-
is the gunnery a bit funky on this? I don't see bullet impacts and the m24 seems to be weak at best. I took several close center mass shots on folks with little effect. It's like you need to die 4 times to gunfire before you actually die.

objects in aim point may be farther than they appear?
-
dunno but i was putting the crosshairs dead on them and they were not moving. It sure looks like it takes quite a bit to take someone down as in several center mass shots with a m24.
-
As a sniper, you must score a headshot to kill with one round.
...otherwise you might as well name the game "Sniper War."
-
maybe... it just does not seem quite right.. its hard to see bullet impacts.
-
I tried it out. Not bad. Its come a long way since Bf1942. The only thing I have wrong with it is the m203. It is WAY too weak IMO.
-
Battlefield 1942 was never meant to be realistic - just fun. I think it succeeded.
This has the same feel - but the graphics are amazing. The water effects alone are something to behold. Running on a X800XT PE here.
San Andreas has a bit of a competitor for my computer time...
-
the graphics are amazing but they porked the radio calls and choppers in bf2. never played bf it was just too boring, the ds mod was great tho.
-
I didn't enjoy it at first, but starting to get into it. It does take an awful lot of shots to kill someone. Unless it's long range i just fire the m203 and watch them fly.:D
I've been split about 50/50 with assault/special forces. The other kits don't really interest me.
-
ya, snipers are almost pointless since you have to hit someone dead on at least 4 times to get a kill. Seems like the best way to get kills is things that go boom or just hose them down point blank.
-
I.e. it sucks.
-
snipers suck. they've ruined gameplay in many FPS. Doesn't bother me any, I never use'em :)
-
Anyone able to get AA to function? Enabled in and out of game, yet no worky.
Omega drivers with an x800.
-
Works fine for me, but I prefer it off. Then again, I have NVidia and the game seems a little biased towards them.
-
Cool I found the solution here:
http://forums.totalbf2.com/showthread.php?t=5758
Radlinker must be set to application preference instead of forced.
and 1280x1024 "support." :)
-
Any of yall playing right now? Wouldn't mind hooking up with someone and owning some noobs with that LGB. :)
-
I DLed it... turns out my puter cant handle it I click on the icon it goes to a black screen and about 5 ces later im back to desktop :(
-
i just get in the tank and pwn anything and everything.
-
I love the choppers. Getting a hang of it flying noe blasting away tanks and infantry. Most effective with a co-pilot - which is hard to find on pub servers.
-
Some of the server have the "unlocked" weapons. Yeehaw!

-
For some reason my mouse/keyboard doesn't respond once i'm in game. Gonna have to download it again.:(
Any of you guys play on any particular server?
-
I have been frequenting the eademowc servers, usually number 1 or 2. Alpha Company something or other 64 player server has no time limits and unlocked weapons. Lotsa fun!

I stay in GameCenter west servers....they give me best connection.

Great server, loads of teamwork, great communication. They're actually booting the lonewolves (as they should). No kiddos to be found; all serious gamers. :)
-
I've been playing with the |-TC-| something or other on their own server. Not much to brag about, but the TC guys work together, are loads of fun to play with, and my ping never goes above 70.
Oct, you're the 3rd or 4th person I've heard brag about that server, so I think ima try it out tonight.
-
Probably me bragging about it 4 times :). I'm a contributing member, and literally every original TG member I've met is damn good and great team player.
-
Hehe, Im going in right now. We'll see if its so great. :)
-
saw you on there oct but didnt know how to send messages. THink I saw funky too.
Man the game is hard.
Finding a squad that isnt a bunch of lamers is hard too.
-
You guys go by the same names, Octavius, Pongo?
I haven't seen anyone familiar.
-
SrPongo
-
Yeah I was in there. Still kinda learnin it but we should team up. Usually teamwork will beat the twitch kiddies in the long run. Especially with the whole arty/uav/radar thing.
I like the demo a lot. I can nitpick it but it's a good balance of fun and realism.
Are there going to be JO style "big maps" in the full version? Also how many players on a server in the full version?
JO has a million flaws but I still love it because of the 150 player servers and how cool the "world" is.
-
0847Marine is mine
I was "squad leader" last night, wow now thats neat.
The head honcho issues orders to the squad leaders who then accept or reject them, I'd then pass those orders onto my squad... they could ok the plan, or ask me to ask for new orders.
Last night the leader would send 1 squad wide as a fake, then attack with force on the opposite side. Sure enough get the MEC would get bogged down at 1 flag and he'd desimate them with arty.
If my guys needed ammo, supplies or called for an arty strike, I had to stop and request it from the guy in charge, like in the real military if you take care of your squad they're loyal.. I made sure all thier requests got taken care of and in return they were happy to follow my lead. We all had vox and for about 2 hours we kicked some serious tail, the vox made all the difference..
What a neat game.
-
Hah, pongo isn't a very common name, I knew it was you. :)
Yeah funked, each map will have three different "modes" for different games and size limitations. Large, med, and small. Not sure if the starting ownership of flags will be customizable.
Tempus, Apophis, Wyzcrak and a few others are really going hardcore with the demo so far. They border on extreme anal dissection, a bit much for my tastes, but it'll make it that much better for me with all the work sorted out... all I do is point, shoot, and blow stuff up. I'll try my hand at command in the future.
Actually my forte is in the medic realm, so blowing stuff up is minimal. One game I had 28 revives!
-
1)Shoot on single shot not burst or Auto. Use Auto and Burst for close in work. This has helped my accuracy and shots to kill a bunch.
2)It's really fun to be sneaking through those houses a couple M1's go rolling by.
3)Parchutes are well done. Still finding new things to do with them. i.e Dropping high over enmy CV, open chute, get lined up down the deck and drop remote bombs all over the flight deck. Talk about a view.
4)Graphics are incredible. Hardly seen any glitches.
5)I saw a server that said /120 on it for # of players. Not sure if it was a test or glitch but look for it.

How is the helicopter flight model? Compare to the Desert Combat one, which was hard and rewarded practice by allowing hte pilot to do some pretty great maneuvering. Versus the Battlefield Vietnam chopper model which, as I understand, turned helicopters into easy to maneuver platforms that were essentially forward/backward, left/righ, up down.
-
I've been playing this demo non-stop since it came out. I'm in a squad called the Sturmgrenadiers and it's been a blast with the command and teamwork when we play.
I usually go on the MEC side and grab the Assault or Special Forces guy. Of course picking helos out the sky with an anti-tank missle is always fun.
-
I really like the choppers in BF2. It's no hardcore sim FM but good enough to justify a HOTAS with rudders. Sure the mouse shooter guys can fly those things but good pilots can pull some wild stunts. I am missing a "stall" though.
Nothing like a full loaded blackhawk circling a base...
-
TIR support :). Flying in the battlefield games is difficult, being stuck in the 12 o'clock view. Mouse view isn't a solution either. AH view system spoiled me.
-
A pretty neat arcade game, although my gaming experience has been badly ruined by the TK potatos.
Half the time getting killed on purpose by a team mate isn't so much fun.
Not a biggie if its accidental, but when you're aboard a CV and get nailed...

The side Commander is the only one who can control the Arty, and he does so by clicking on the spot he wants to hit in the Command map. ( Caps lock key IIRC)
He allso gets a full-map radar scan showing the position of everyone on the whole map about once every 15~20 seconds, a UAV that lasts about a minute or so and scans an area of a few hundred metres or so around where the Commander decides to put it, and the ability to drop a 'supply crate' anywhere on the map, which heals soldiers, reloads all ammo and repairs vehicles.
All of these functions can be attacked and shut down by the opposite team, smash their radar van, they get no all seeing eye scan of the battle, smash the UAV trailer, no UAV, smash their Arty peices, they cant rain hot steel on you at will anymore.
BTW ,anyone can be side Commander, you just have to apply when the round starts, you allso get to mutiny and boot the commander out if a majority of your side doesnt like the way he is feeding you into the meat grinder.
The whole commander/squads setup is what will make this game stand out among the crowd I reckon, it has everything that made Battlefield 1942 and BF:V fun, with a whole new game fitted over the top, and superb graphics to boot.
I spent a couple of hours last night crewing a Blackhawk, sometimes flying, sometimes gunning, and had an absolute blast.
Theres a lot to be said for spawn camping in a hovering platform with a pair of miniguns and unlimited ammo :)
Cant wait to see the full game with all the maps and the bigger 64 player map boundaries, should be untold hours of belly laughing good times involved.
-
Thank you BD
Good to see you are still around...I still miss KG200, my first squad in AH...Tachel, Dead, Geeb
BTW...anyone know what happened to Geeb?
-
You know.. it's hilarious to fill up a buggy with C4 and drive it into enemy base, then jump out into cover and blow it up :D
Another fun thing is to fill up a well used path with C4's and wait for someones to enter the explosive zone.
...I still need to try fill up BH with special force soldiers and tell them to drop C4 all around a target area, then trigger an explosion.
-
It's a truly great game... but for you realism junkies, check out this mod for it:
http://www.realitymod.com
They are adding all sorts of realism fixes... and a fully modelled British Army! :D
-
Still having fun though i don't join squads anymore. It seems 90% of the squad leaders are stupid and suicidal. I still follow groups of people, however if they decide to run across an open plain for 30 secs or drive an apc right into an enemy base with a dozen bad guys waiting i wont follow.:)
ooo...reality mod. think i may go sign up to beta test.

I do join squads, I just dont give a **** what the squad objective is or so.
Usually its preferable to be in a squad if you're piloting with someone, because then you can for example speak over voice or see each others messages easier. You'll also know when hes in the same chopper with you.
..unless your squad for some reason becomes filled up by people who joined in it for some reason.
co-operation would be also useful in tanks, because the top gunner has much better grasp on the situational awarness.
....it's just a pain in the bellybutton to find competant people.

I played it a bit -- it's a cool and addictive little videogame.
A) I haven't figgered out how to open the chutes yet... (9 doesn't seem to work when I need it to)
B) The viewdistances are really small -- heck even in Joint Ops the viewdistance is twice BF2
C) What's the point of the Sniper Rifle? If you need more than one hit to kill, the bullet drop/dispersion or something makes it useless beyond 100m. Better to take any assault rifle and use it in single shot mode (especially entertaining from on top of the crain).
D) why folks would shoot you on the carrier: take a MEC spec ops dude and drive out to the carrier. Climb up on deck, and instead of blowing up the radar and the UAV shack, walk over to the aircraft (act normal and hopefully you won't get shot). Attach C4 to helicopters and aircraft. Watch them warm up their engines,a nd fly away. Now blow them and giggle like a schoolgirl.
E) yeah, the squad system isn't grasped yet -- Gee I'm a mobile spawn point? Maybe I'll rambo-charge the base (or better yet, get in a 1-seater jet and fly around).
F) I still want building that collapse.
But still, it's not bad for light entertainment -- it's bound to be cool on the console.
I think the project reality folks are horribly misguided, by the way.
-
Dinger,
Just keep hammering 9, it'll open.
Yeah... the sniper rifles are sucky, especially the SVD, which needs 3 hits without a headshot -- and im not sure even headshot cuts it with it, because sometimes bullets seem to go thru the head without a hit even when shot from 5 meters away, with careful aiming.
M24 however kills with 1-2 hits and is MUCH easier to aim than SVD (I still dont know whether the target should be under the reticle graphics or on top of it.. with M24 its just point and click)
But theres no drop, just a horrid dispersion.
...theres mobile spawn points!?
-
At least one of the server settings (don't know if all of them work this way -- the damn server browser is so slow, and loading times outrageous) shows the squad leader position on the map. It's selectable as a spawn point. If people had coordination, they could really cause some trouble -- putting 5 guys on defense somewhere, having the other infiltrate, then suicide/respawn. Suddenly six guys appear on the carrier deck; or on top of the crane (think the crane is bad, imagine it with a whole squad, including medics and supply dudes).
-

The crane is bad if theres many people attracting the attention.. Alone its not a problem, you can kill a few before they realise the shooter is actually above them.
It's funny to lay C4 on the road by the unfinished building - people keeps coming up the road and you have a nice view on them from above - BOOM.
Looks awesome when the whole road is covered by explosions :D
Too bad I haven't yet got any tanks or APCs in the trap... just buggies and soldiers.
Although its funny to watch soldiers go up the road carefully, let them get almost to the top and then suddenly blow up.

Yeah all maps I have played have that feature. Just takes a Squadleader who has a little bit of sense and an attack can be sustained indefinitely. I was playing with a squad on tacticalgamer and the SL would just stay right outside the main battle and you could just spawn in. Made for some intense battles.
Sniper rifle sucks. The marines m24 is way to accurate. The M203 is deadly. Nothing is finer than sneaking up behind a squad of 6 and just letting loose. Sometimes I will just throw a smoke on a group of enemies that are sneaking in then run in the mix and start blasting. Usually you get 1 or 2 kills and they will TK each other. That game has real potential. I would like to see bigger squads though. 6 is alright but 10 would be better.

98 also sucks. XP even with the MS BS is a way better os.

Oh how do you change the to single shot on the rifles?

can you zoom in while in vehicles/aa missiles etc?
getting help from people in game is like talking to a brick wall.

hit the number related to the gun... for example rifle is 3... so you hit 3 again and its switches between auto, 3 or 1 depending on the gun.

Thanks Raider!

is there a command to change your name in game? If so , what is it?
-
When I previewed the game at E3, the designers said that they tried to lesser the supremacy of air units, to give a rest to ground units.:(
-
They're still good enough that half your team will wait at the spawn point for them. It seems the team that wins is the team with the fewest people waiting for the planes to spawn.
I like the fact the snipers aren't uber, i hate snipers!:D I still die plenty of times to them though
-
I found it depends on the server you are on. My usual server that I play was down so I chose another one with a low ping.
Out-of-balance sides, 1/2 of the lower side either in planes or waiting for planes. How the hell (oops, can I say that now?) are we supposed to take or defend bases properly when there is only 4 pairs of boots on the virtual ground?
Yeah, finding a server where team work is important. But I also like a smaller server. Having 256 people running around is just too confusing.
-
Sniper advice. Head shot does work....picked off a few MEC tank drivers. But move after your shot. More then likely you've been detected and someone will be coming your way shortly.
-
**** yeah, last DVD copy at Best Buy... time to park my bellybutton for a day of BF2 goodness.

More important advice than that; there actually is bullet drop, at least for the sniper rifles.
It's not much, but definately enough to make you miss a prone target and the heads.
However SVD is useless piece of crap compared to M24, unless you get a damn good spot close to your enemy and somehow avoid getting return fire.
Snipers job just isn't to be close enough to get shot himself by assault rifles...
Doesn't always have to move after shooting though, if you hide after each shot.
Also distraction helps - if theres friendlies crawling around the corners, the enemy most likely wont react to some sniper shooting their heads from behind, above or side.
Yesterday got 14 kills from top of the crane (the mid base, which is below the crane, was under enemy control), just by mostly shooting targets right below, who were almost constantly harrassed by attacks.
After 1-3 kills I hid from the view, then took a peek and did the same again.
All head shots, so they dont get any kind of warning of the direction they were shot from or hear the sound of the rifle.
Only problem was that the round was too fast to get more than 14 kills, even though I rushed to the crane as fast as possible ;)

I spent a game camped out under a bush in the east beach base area. Set up a claymore facing behind me and didnt move the entire round. 36 kills. I dont think there is any problem with the damage or accuracy of the M24. The SVD, maybe, but I dont have a lot of time on it. The ghillie suit is very effective. I had guys snooping around for me on a couple occasions, but I just lay still and they gave up. Now, with a good commander, they could have put a UAV over the area, but you need a little luck to survive that long, and I had it this game I guess. We had a good commander and I was able to get him to send a few well timed artillary strikes into the area. Good fun, cant wait for the full version.
-
Just got two copies at that local fries! Grrrr now someone needs to call in a bomb threat to work! =P

My BB said no till tomorrow....Grrr
-
Yaaay!
67.19.26.150 is now the retail server.
Server just went down though - should be up shortly.
-
we need to get an O'Club BF2 squad. lol
-
I will join that sever when i buy my copy on friday. We can even have a little squad of AH-ers. we are teh coolest!!
-
bah!!
I installed and it wont let me join a server, see them all, but as soon as I pick one it looks like it is loading for like 5 seconds then just goes back to the server screen..
I have tried uninstalling the demo, then reinstalling BF2, no dice.Tried making a new acount and that didnt help.
I loaded new omega drivers, and they are having issues but I think thats a whole other problem.
-
Damn, what an awesome game!
I saw Funkynuts fall in front of my AK. :D
Some of those maps are intense - street fighting is too cool. We set up our squad on top of some random building, medics in the middle and support/gunners on the corners. Held it for a half hour, fended off many strikes. Of course, until the holy artillery blew us to opposite sides of the map.
A good player in the command position can really affect the fun/notfun factor of a game.
-
The street fightin map with all the dust/smoke is just incredible.
The more I play it, the more I notice that weapons are nerfed, but it's still fun as hell.

Picked it up after work.
Its midnight, now. ;)
Guys complaining about accuracy - keep it on single shot. Auto/bust is just asking to miss, for the most part.
Definately a huge improvement over BF1942 and BFV. The commander/squadleader/squad comm's are outstanding.
-
was on the server for a good hour or so and didnt see you guys,
I play as gtora2a3
good stuff, but I am confused as how the coms work.
-
The commander can speak to squad leaders.
The squad leaders can speak to the commander and to their squads.
The squadies can speak to eachother.
Kind of an aritificial chain of command. Works really well.
-
cool . I was back on the server again, the second time sucked, no one was leading and no one was using coms hehe

Game is fun but damn the chopperpotatos get old.
Helicopters are waaaay too tough. Tanks are fairly easy to kill but anything in the air is a ***** for a grunt. Only on certain maps is it out of control though.

yea was on a sever last night were the other side clearly had the poo together, and we got worked.
It was a small map and same guy in a black hawk with a mini gun killed everyone.

In the demo map the problem was lack of players utilizing AA and going for other choppers in their chopper.
Rockets are good against choppers and always when I saw an enemy chopper, it was my first priority.
More often than not, they were ignoring me while I raped their ass.
Another tool which I found great to down choppers, was the FAV buggy's 14.5mm.
Just needs to hit with as many shots as possible and you'll do great damage before over heating.
It is also possible to kill the crew before the chopper.
-
Thats what me and a buddy ending up doing last night, parked a couple buggys inside a sheltered area and let the choppers have it. Had to tk a guy that tried to drive off with me in the buggy.
Something is messed up if the helicopters are tougher then the tanks.
-

TKng is way out of the line... I never support TK regardless of the issue.
Leave TK's for the stunninghunks.
Once a guy TK'ed me for flying the chopper for "too long", as I was returning to the CV (I had flown it for two rounds straight, with the rounds being twice longer than the usual).
I saw one request to fly the chopper prior to my return and thought I could give it to someone else, but then this ahole shot me down on return - guess did I give it anymore?
When he finally got it, he just died, he just kept appearing back on the CV every minute.
Asked him whether he can even fly the choppers, for being such an stunninghunk, and he said hes very good at it
However the choppers aren't tougher than the tanks; a tank usually takes 3 shots from a tank, but a chopper barely takes one.
After one shot it'll be down to red.
Although much harder to kill, but then again is worse at holding the ground and harder to do quick repairs.
Also needs two good crew men to operate.
If the pilot sucks, as it usually does, it is pretty useless... with a sucky gunner, it'll be mostly a rocket boat.
What I hate with the AA, is the missiles going astray..
There might be only one enemy fighter visible, who doesn't even drop flares when shot at, but the missiles misses just barely and suddenly you've hit a friendly vehicle.
A friendly vehicle you never even saw.
Happens too often...
-
Man I had some fun today.
Kept getting an M1 Amrams and taking people out in droves. Using the terrian to hit other tanks and then backing up soo they cant shoot back...
I was anoyed though at the start of one game some guy kept getting in the tank, and driving it to the next base that was always being contested and leaving it to get in a fast attack, so of course to enemy players grab it and use the only US tank on the map agaist us.
lamer.
I hit a enemy chopper with a main gun round lol and it LIVED! NOW thats some BS, but the choppers are not as bad as in BFV.
Some eneny would get on the base too and snipe, but the chinese troops have a big disadvantage with the red berret some wear, I spotted him, ran around the back of a building and walked right up behind him and shot him in the head with the Shotgun.
Fun FUN stuff.
Tactical gamer has been full everytime I tried to get on so this is all Random server stuff.
NO leadership lol some guy was trying but could not figure out waypoints or something, I kept getting orders to go to base no wear near the action.

The worst is the spammers who fly the Su-34. I watched one guy for a few maps, all he did was fly the Su-34 and spam spawn points. So I grabbed the Blackhawk, flew over their base, bailed out, and found a nice hidey hole. Then I'd rocket him as soon as he jumped in the Su-34, no one else, just him, for 3 maps straight ;)

Forget the notches, about useless, because you'll never need to raise as much.
In the Oman map, I shot enemies heads at the beach from the crane and I only had to raise the aim about two feets.
