OK, guys, let's review.
I'm lined up over my target and see no fewer than 10 friendly fighters through my bomb scope. No reds, just greens.
And a bandit chews me up and spits me out. Just one. (1)
I'm at a whopping 5000 ft.
Pop quiz:
Fighter pilots should:
a.) vulch the field for killz and scorez and screw the bomber pilots - they're on their own.
b.) Support the effort to capture bases by protecting inbound bombers and goons.
*cough*
-
well your about 10k too low IMO, and ask for a gunner well before target area
No matter what they were doing, they probably were not on an escort mission,
I choose C, All of above, do what they like and have fun
-
I don't "base capture", I don't try to "win the war", I fight and try to kill the bad guys. Basically it's your job to protect yourself out there. Like Cooley said, spend the extra 10 mins to get higher or get a gunner. So I'd have to go with answer A.
I do like to vulch though:aok
-
.... or they were expecting you to cover them with your guns, they weren't expecting you to actually drop bombs. (cancel this theory if you were in a lanc or b26)
-
Yeah, I gotta agree, in all my two years in AH, if there is one rule of thumb I apply it is that (especially in a bomber) I don't expect much from anyone other than squadmates.
Altitude is at the pilot's discretion.. You can get shot at any altitude... But running in low over a hot target carries an inherent risk, its not their fault you came along right then, they might have been in the middle of supporting a squad operation that didn't involve you.
The most important rule of online gaming is to make your own fun, and never count on others to make it fun for you... The only exception to this rule is during a coordinated mission either with your squad or a public mission... In those cases I do have higher expectations on the people involved.

Sounds like you asume the people around you want to capture the field. That's not the point of the game. The point of the game is to have fun playing it in whatever fashion you see fit.

Look at it this way - if it wasn't for kill shooter those friendly fighters probably would be jostling for a chance to kill you before the enemy do.
-
There is nothing worse than having a buff pilot come in and kill a beautiful furball by killing the FH. I'm a furballer, not much more...
I give any bomber the benefit of the doubt and assist them, but if I hear 'I'm killing the FHs', you won't get a check 6, much less a clear.
Most of the time, these bomber pilots kill the FH and leave the VH up anyway. Even if you are an arm-chair general, it makes no sense...
-
Nevermind that planes vulching a field at 200 MPH (so low they're visible through the bomb sight) can't exactly zoom straight up 5K to pick off a con that is probably diving on the bombers at 400 MPH even if they wanted to anyway....
The guy above me said it right...all too often the bomber guys are flying in and doing nothing but ruining everyone else's fun....why should people protect him? There were a lot of times I would have shot down the "friendly" bomber myself if I could have.

Fighter pilots should ... have thier online accounts provided for free by you if they're supposed to be your personal "body" guards.

First, you're waaaaaaaaaaaay to low! Second you're flying waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to low! and third you need waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more altitude! :D good luck!
-
some of us dislike buffs so much that we go out of our way to ruin it for you guys the way you guys ruin it for us. go bomb strats stop ruining furballs.
-
Yes 5k is too low. Also...since everyone flies their own way, we cant expect people to protect us. That guy you want to save you is likely thinking "I hope he doesnt kill the FHs before I can get some vulches in!" Bring your own guns.
-
Unless you and I happen to be in on the same mission, you're on your own. I'd suggest recruiting some fighter escorts next time.

All of the above....you may find most peoples priorities in the game are:
Fly with squadmates
Protect squadmates
Protect countrymen if possible
Have lotsa fun
Land kills when possible
The first two says it all....Hope this helps.

Stay low and watch if your bombs hit :)

You forgot
c.) Fighter pilots, like buff drivers, attackers, vehicle drivers etc should do whatever it is they feel like doing.
Here is news; this arena isn't being run for your edification.
Here is more news; you aren't the center of the universe.
If you get your buff shot out of the sky, well that is Aces High. Your own 6 is your responisbility, I suggest that you get a gunner.
As a whine, this rates up there with those who complain that no-one gave them a six call.

Yours is the pathway of truth and enlightenment to which all are called, but few answer.

But how does one know? Unless you understand whether or not the buff driver has purity of intent, then any buff near a base that has a furball must be presumed to be the enemy, whether it be red or green. If it is red; then kill it. If it is green; let it die.

Even killing the VH is an act of hedonistic self-gratification on the part of the buffs. For the unwashed have therein destroyed all those lovely little ground targets for the heavy fighters.
Swooping down on a target fixated Flack Panzie or M16, can be quite fullfiling. It is almost as primoridal as a vulch on an airplane.
Too few understand that only in furballs and vulching can one find the pathway to enlightenment. All other ways lead to the dark side of the Force.

Any bomber pilot should have seen con coming for miles away, using f3 external view. As a guy who like to fly fighters & bombers
I'll always call out loc of bad guys bombers i might pass and call out loc of enemy fighters and I never miss giving 6 call, And no matter which side I fly for i Get cover from team i'm on. Yhis i believe is in return that guys know i'll call there 6s and even will get fighters off my guys 6's by having friend fly st8 towards my bombers.
So my point once you earn respect and show you'll go extra tto help team I'll bet you call help con my 6 guys will try to cover. But its your job to call out cons because you have external view fighters don't.
Ps after you died did you tell friendlies con was near them to alert them?

Frankly, coming in a buff from 5k is just asking to be shot down. So I suggest a smarter mode of bombing rather than relying on the unreliable.
Alt is buff's best friend. How do you expect others to be friendly to you when you're ignoring your own best friend?
-
You guys are WAAAAAAYYYYYY off course about this and you are all being far too hard on my man, Diggly Dirk Dik Whiskey Sixer.
Everyone knows that buffs fly at 5k. Hell, I bet when they dropped the bomb on Nagesaki they weren't more than 3k above it.
And everyone also knows that it is their JOB (spelled J O B) to defend the buffs because THEY DO THE BIDNESS. They are the ones that make the dough, move the dirt, have important stuff to do, have priority because they fly buffs. It's right there in the buff flyers union handbook, right next to flying altitudes.

Looks like I missed something!
Don't tell anyone it don't happen much!!

If some fighter jock came along and killed that enemy who was attacking my bombers I'd be yelling "Killstealer"!!!!! ;) Bombing is really only fun if you get a few planes attacking you.

A malicious satisfaction in the misfortunes of others?
You are most certainly on the one true path to that which is your primordial innermost self. :aok

That's why Schad's such a nice fellow.
I liked him the moment he made the jump to AH from FA :D

C. Join a quality squad and ask your squadmates to join up with you on your mission to destroy the enemy. You will have escort you can count on.
People want to fly their game not yours, find like minds to fly with and move on.:aok

GET A GUNNER!!!!!!!!!!!why didn't I think of that!..I gotta go tell tatertot!!!

You're chittin right? If you bring buffs THAT LOW, you need to nut up and accept your responsibility. Don't blame other for you demise for coming in at 5k in Buffs.

Mm Actualy I have some sympathy with the SixWhisky guy
I thought the fun of playing online was the ability to team up with people and fly cooperatively to achieve a goal! If you only wanted to fly around shooting down tgts and amassing points I'd ve thought you'd be better off playing a boxed simulation with better graphics and AI drones as tgts. What's the point of playing a game with real people if you don't work together comunicate and play as a team? From memory thats what was good about AW people used to do that. I think walkons and non squadies used to get treated better in AW. If a buff called for my help I'd go if poss it adds to the realism. Likewise If I'm in a buff I try to ask the guys attacking a base what they'd want me to take out. Again its a realism thing for me.
