ok i finally got a new mb for that 3.0 ghz prescott ... the abit mb was bad .
ok now i need temps fpr this puppy
its currently running at 57c @ idle . its on the stock factory hs and fan .. is this normal for this prescott cpu ???
my old p3 ran that hot under a heavy load
but im not shure were this one should be.

somethings a lier in this gigabite board
bios monitor say 57c
the easy tune monitor says 47c .. heat sink feels like the lower.. I dont have my infra red tester at home .. or id check it for shure..
-
I'd bet on the 47C. Thats over 100F as it is. My Athlon breaks 52C sometimes under a heavy load, but idles around 42-43C.
-
I have an aftermarket copper heatsink that is about the same size as the factory P4 fan unit. My cpu runs about 39c at idle and about 43c under load running AH.
-
i used ah2 to bench it .. in the easytune 5 monitor it leaped up to 56c while killing drones and the vc heatsink got so hot i couldnt hold my finger on it .. bet the bios monitor musta hit 67c . this puppy aint gonna live unless i do a bunch of mod's to its cooling (Wonder if he'll squawk if i add a gpu heatsink fan )
-
It actually sounds normal for a prescott. Try a better heatsink and fan. I like the thermalright XP-90 or XP-90C with a speed adjustable 90mm fan, but it'll cost ya $50ish or more depending on where you get it.
-
this dweeb doesnt have the $$ .. i'll be lucky if i get anything outta him for rebuilding his mess .He's gonna squawk when i tell him he needs to bring me his xp cd .. (he's one of those super know it alls, but really he has no idea how to get off the porch)
i reset the heatsink w/ my best artic silver , added a fan to the VC gpu . its at 42- 44c now in the windows prog .. darn thing says 52c in the bios ...
Gigabite 865PE main board ...

thats "normal" for prescotts. infact thats quiet cool by there standards.
my A64 at a 400mhz overclock, and 0.2volts overvolt runs at 45c full load, 29c idle..... at default it idles at 24c and full load at 39c

thats because the bios has no idle where as once in windows 2k/XP the CPU will be sent the idle command hence its cooler

in otherwords then your trying to tell me that theres no temp control while its in bios or dos mode

yup, no idle commands sent to CPU untill in a OS that supports it. so bios temps are about medium load temps.

ok got it all under control now :D
42-43c @ idle , 51-54c when its loaded hard. (still have to get the side panel from him and set up its fan to blow inward)
thanks guys

you not going to get a prescott much cooler than that with the default cooler.... good job! :aok
