IBC hands down. Everything else is just a distant second.
-
Barq's ownz j00...although I'm not a big fan of root beer anyway.

A&W is good in a frosty mug, out of a fountain. Otherwise, it's just "eh."
If you're buying it at the store though, IBC blows everything else out of the water. Even the other small root beer makers like Stewarts and can't compare to IBC.
-
IBC is the ****.
Barks is the **** that comes out after you have a nice cool ibc.
-
Go to an A&W franchise and buy the brewed (non CO2) type of Rootbeer only available direct from the store. By far the best Root Beer I have ever had. Makes the best Root beer floats. Note however, if you buy in the bottle or can, IBC is better.

what is root beer exactly anyway?
-
IBC
-
IBC is great, and my drink of choice when it comes to root beer. However, there's a brand called Old Soaker from Massachussetts that is just a tad better than IBC. Unfortunately I can't get it here in TN. A friend of mine brings some with her everytime she goes for a visit.

A & W in a frosty mug.
-
A&W ... hands down ... turn it into a Root Beer Float and your in heaven.
-
A&W because you can get it with ice cream in it.
-
Oh I dont know....I prefer my own root beer. Its made with a concentrate that you mix with water and sugar and I then force carbonate it in a 5 gallon keg. Its something to do with the nephews when I am brewing beer and they want to "help".
-
A&W, but they have to get it on tap and bring it to your car.

A&W if it's on tap. I'm lucky enough to have an A&W fast food place a few minutes away. That's the only time I'd pick it though. If it's a grocery store choice, IBC or maybe a microbrew.
-
This is easy. Henry Weinhards. ;)
-
A & W is the one, boys. None better (or even as good).
but, it does give me a tummy ache :(
-
Don't forget the local microbrews! This stuff is REALLY good!
Lost Trail Root Beer
Made from the original formula encountered by Joe Marshall, great-great grandfather of Shelly Schierman. Perfect for an afternoon at the kids’ ball game or watching your favorite horse opera back at the bunk house.
“I been a lookin’ for the Santa Fe Trail three days now. Met up with some good folks. They give me some grub and something to wet my whistle. Say they call it “Root Beer” — been a makin’ this brew from roots and herbs. Think I’ll forget the trail and just settle here.”
From the journal of Joe Marshall, somewhere off the Santa Fe Trail, May 15, 1848

What is root beer?
Root Beer is a sweetened, carbonated beverage originally made using the root of a sassafras plant (or the bark of a sassafras tree), with sassafras as the primary flavor.
Way more than you wanted to know, trust me!

at least they can make one thing good.
-
I have to agree with some of the others.
If you have an oppertunity to get A&W from the stand then yes A&W.
If you cant then IBC all the way.
-
Henry Weinhards is good, but I really liked Thomas Kemper. If you see any, give it a shot.
-
I dig Henry's more, but the Thomas Kemper stuff is definitely no slacker. It's good stuff too.
-
i will have to put them to the test. my son really likes rootbeer, his favorite is ibc but ill see if i can get weinfarts here.

Do they have root beer in Yuroland?
If not, it is a delicious carbonated soda pop that is difficult to describe in its yumminess.

Henry's is one great root beer! It's very close to a micro root beer.

There was a distributor down here who had it available in kegs, a while back, but a friend of mine told me he checked into it and they didn't offer it anymore. I haven't followed up though.
-
IBC kicks A&W's arse every day of the week and twice on Sunday's.
-
Muggs Rootbeer.

In order of preference.
IBC bottled
AW tap (if its a good barrel)
Barq's
AW
IBC has a nice bite, but its the smoothest of the bottled/canned rootbeers. I've tried a lot of root beers, and its the one I always come back to when I want a really good one.
Barq's is everyday fare, AW only if its on sale for less than barq's.
PS anyone whos in the Fargo ND Moorhead Minnesota area. Stop into the HiHo Tavern in Dilworth at lunch time.
Doesn't look like much on the outside, parking can be a problem. Best homemade burgers & fries you'll find.
And they have frosty mugs they'll fill with good draft root beer.
Ohhh and you can get it all & change back from a 5$.
