You know, I've complained about my bad bad gunnery for a long time but have never really done anything to fix it.
I would greatly appreciate if a trainer would work with me on an individual basis, and tell me what I am doing grossly wrong. How would I set something up like that?
I know there are other parts of my game that need improving but the number one thing that detracts from my enjoyment of this game is just flat out missing a 200 yard rear hemisphere shot.
Any help would be apreciated. Right now i hit about 2.5% of shots. I would like to hit 6-8% of shots. Can a trainer help with this?

send an email to trainers@hitechcreations.com
they will set up a time for you to get the help you want.
good bunch.

First off, practice off line against the drones, work on shots from the front, front quarter, and side profiles from each of their aircraft. Do this for about 30 minutes solid and you will begin to see a difference, also, check your convergence settings and post them here.
This may sound strange, but when I shoot, I almost see the enemy move in slow motion and it helps my aim. I tend to take alot of impossible shots so my gunnery % isn't too hot, but the end result is quite favorable. Don't worry about gun %, it is just a stat... after a time you will feel the proper distance. For example, yesterday, I took a snap shot on a Corsair that was 800+ out while he was in a full bank turn away from me at high speed, less than a 1 second burst killed him. Turns out I got lucky and I hit his cockpit. If you're worried about accuracy %, you wouldn't even bother making that shot.
One last bit of advice, stick to one aircraft. Swapping around won't help you learn gunnery (as most of them have different guns with different nose/wing placement) or the characteristics of that particular aircraft.

I would disregard this one angle, unless you want pile-its in the arenas to call you a HO DWEEB......
front quarter is different story all together, side and top/bottom plane profile shots are good to work on when trying deflection shots. The dead 6 shot is prob the hardest of all shots to master. most fighters profile from a dead 6 view is very thin and tapered.
ditto on what Ghosth and Lute said

I appreciate the advice and have emailed Ghost. I think I have have went as far as possible with the offline drones. I've killed Yankee about a million times from all sorts of angles and I'm still in the 2.5% skill range. I dont care about the percentage as a number. I have had 6.5% days and know they are much more fun than 2.5% days and inspire confidence which kinda snowballs.
My convergence is 275 for both guns in a spit9. I have tried 250 and 300 and there's not much of a difference, but 275 seems best. My current hit % is 2.7, but if you take out the bombers its probably a lot worse. I can empty a clip on a p51 200 yards out and have him fly away. Yet I can kill myself with kill shooter on a 800 yard deflection shot. One of life's sweet little ironies :D
Cporky explained on 200 it becuase kill shooter concentrates the bullets on my fueselage. Guess that makes sense.
Anyway, I wanna fix my gunnery. I've emailed you ghost, but any trainer (e.g. TC) I'm free most nights after 5pm CDT(6pm better ) and real flexable on most weekends.
Just tell me what to do.

BTW? didn't you tell me you were someone else? Etch? perhaps? if so you should have my personal email already, if not shoot me one at
TequilaChaser(at)flyaceshigh.com
or the other email for all trainers. I am sure one of us can get ya shooting in the right direction :)

Well I'm still me just another handle :D
I do have your email. I am wondering how to do this. See I think my technique is wrong. I read other posts where it states to put the dot on place they are going to fly through, let the nose settle, and fire as they fly through your dot. Sounds wonderful, but it the ma they have this nasty habit of jinking right as they get to your dot (pipper).
I met up with ghost last night in the ta and he mentioned something I have observed. Its not always prudent to shoot right away. Sometimes if you fly 200 yards (in lag pursuit) off someones six for awhile, they have sort of a melt down and have little wiggle left when you choose to put the pipper on them.
What I'm really aiming to do (pun intended) is to get my golf swing right. That way when I start hitting it will be consistant.
I don't know if the TA is the propper place to figure that out or through film exchange?
Thanks a lot TC , and Ghost also.

First off don't use the tracers. They block your view when you shoot, hampering memorizing shot profiles. There are two things you need to note when you do get a hit, you need to know about how fast your opponent is and about what the angle off tail was when you shot. Spray and pray until you find the right lead, then use that same lead next time. Eventually you just remember how much lead to use by the way things look.
Dead 6 shots are harder, just try shooting a lot. It also doesn't hurt to switch to a plane like the 38 with 500 rounds per gun to let you spray with.

After emptying a whole clip into a spit that was never more than 200 yards out and getting an "assist" and empyting a clip into a b26 that was never more than 400 yards out and getting "2 assists", I'm thinking about going back to my original plan - think of it as an arcade game.

My suggestion is get up in the TA with any trainer there.
Turn "on" lead computed sighting and use it to as a guide to see where you should be aiming at a guy in different positions/distances. You will be amazed at just how far off you are from where you "think" you should be aiming and where you "
should "really" be aiming. Once you figure that out turn it back off and try shooting. You aim will go up markedly.
