Title: N1k
Post by: Arcades057 on June 14, 2005, 09:45:47 PM
I've been flying the A6Mb for the past week or so and have realised the following about its performance

1) It can out-turn anything in the game
2) In a straight up 1v1 a pilot (even a newbie like me) stands an almost even chance against anything, so long as they use the plane to its advantage
3) It is a terrible plane to earn kills in, as its guns are weak
4) Conserve ammo
5) VERY slow

I took up a Nikki just now and realized the following:

1) It is a kill-getting machine!  I had a 4-kill multiple assist flight before being shot down RTBing.
2)MUCH faster than the Zero; almost too fast for me at the first
3) It only takes a few 20-mikes to take out anything.  I am used to holding down the triggers and spraying P38s-not anymore.
4) I have no idea how to use this baby to the utmost of its potential.

I don't want to use a plane with this much potential as a vulcher.  Can someone tell me what sort of fighting is the best way to use the Nikki?

Thanks for any help, guys  :aok

For as much scorn you'll earn flying the Nikki, it's a great all-around fighter....not unlike the Hellcat.

I like it for close base defence as the cannon loadout is fairly substancial. Offensively speaking, it aint too bad either...it has long legs, will carry 2 - 250# GP bombs and has great de-acking power.

Most of the fast B&Z planes won't turn with you as well. Any encounters with Spits, Zekes, P-38's or Hurricanes - especially with alt advantage - will put you  at a quick disadvantage. Fly smart and you'll do well. Just remember it burns rather quickly :)

The ballistics arent great on the Japanese cannons either.  You'll want to set your convergence at 400 or less and stay within that range on your shots for consistency.  The rounds lose energy and fall off fast.  Remember that when leading a target in the turn as well, to allow for a little more lead than you did with the lighter projectiles in the zero.

Forgot to say, if I expect to be flying more than a sector or two I'll take drop tanks and 50% fuel. Lose the DT's once you engage nme fighters...and don't forget to use flaps in the verticle.

Arcades, check out my website:

Soda's Aircraft Evaluations (http://www.telusplanet.net/~dsoder/models)

The N1K is an excellent aircraft although the views are a bit limiting and the speed isn't really great.  That said, it has excellent maneuverability and anything that gets infront of you is in for serious hurt from 4 cannons.

This site is very helpful, Soda, and I've been using it regularly.  Anyone else have something like this?
