Doing a little test amongst the masses....
What numbered box is what you would consider grey? Also what is the number of the last box that you can see?

I dont see the chart below!!
OMG I'M BLIND!!!!!! MOM was RIGHT!!!!
-
7
-
I dont see any gray but 10 would be the closest match.. 8)
-
7
-
5.
Probably a more accurate test of one's monitor than their eyes... but that may be what you want. :)
-
7
-
lol mosgood
Just want to get an feel for how folks monitors are reproducing things community wide...
Actually this isnt that good of a test, because of the contrasting lines of white that seperate the colors....
gonna redo the chart in a bit
-
All black to me.
-
I see boobies.

Start at 6. What's the test supposed to proove? Monitor quality? Visual Quality?
Now that the chart is fully loaded (black background) I see gray starting at 3.
-
New chart up -
Testing to see where folks "percieve" the color grey..of course is relative to surroundings.
If you're seeing boobies - you've got a problem..lol
pls keep revelant to thread :)
-
i see a visible difference to gray in 2....
what does the test mean?
-
2 if I force it....3 just glancing
-
here at work (bad judge i know) i see the number 10, but not the bar associated with it.
12 is the closest to "gray" but id' say it looks like maybe 80,80,80 RGB at best
i'll let you know at home tonight
i was close it's 55,55,55
i kind of consider "gray" 128,128,128 personally
-
ok I gott edit and reword, because you can see the gradiants of black - but where does grey start to your eyes?

Just curious if you have a problem with seeing guages in game?
-
The third box is the first I can see and all of the numbers look gray to me.

work monitor don't play on this one.
Ill check it out when I get home.
-
Can see the number 2
7 is the darkest rectangle I see.
they're all shades of gray.
-
Waffle,
On the new planes I do, I have to zoom in to see them clearly
balsy.
BTW how many puke bags have you filled?
-
Cruelty to animals.

waffle i do severly.....
and like i mentioned ere at work i see only a faint bar for #11....
BTW this moniter is a bit "brighter" than my home moniter generally.....
-
12 :D
also what are guages??
-
I can barely make out 7. 12 is what looks grey to me, although I consider grey to be the background of the reply box I'm typing in. ;)
-
1 on mine
-
10
-
I must be retarded, they all look grey to me. I have no clue which one would be considered 'standard' shade of grey.
I can see everything but #1, #2 is the last shade visible.
-
the last identifiable # i can see is 10. I can make out a very faint area of what would be considered box #9.
i'd consider "grey" to be #12.
:aok
-
I don't see any grey. :D
Seriously, I can read all the numbers, but 4 is where I see the first block of gray.

Ditto

8 is dark grey 10 is grey 12 is light gray and 3 is the last box I can see and 1 the last number I see.
Btw it's grey or gray ???
-
I can see numbers 1 to 12.
But Grey... hmm starting from 4.

what he said

6

2

2 is slightly lighter than black on my monitor. 12 is the last number I see.
eskimo
-
I see 1 thru 12
Grey starts at 3 on up.
-
Gray at 8 or 9. Darkest box I can see is #2.
-
LOL, I’ve just read some of the responses. This is a monitor test. Different brand, models and ages of monitors display shades, contrast and brightness differently. It is very unstandardized. I think that he’s just trying to see what the edges are that some of us might see for skinning, maps, etc.

I see boxes 1 thru 12 and I start to see a faint shape of a box at 1 clearly at 2
-
I think 4 is quite ghey.
lookit how close he is crowding 5

what i find amazing is people can see that stuff. if i bring both my moniter contrast and brightness to 100% i can see the numerals 2 and 3, but that is 100% like i said, and it hurts my eyes to even look at it. not only that but there no longer a hint of "black" anywhere, only washed out gray where black should be.
i can't wait until i get home to check this out. i have my gamma set to 1.3 and it is a bit "dimmer" in teh fact colors look richer and not all washed out.
BTW moniter settings are contrast 95% brightness 40% is normal for both moniters
-
9
-
can make out grey at 6, number 10 looks the right shade of grey.
-
Box 2 is the first i can define the edges of a box.
The box that matches closest to what i consider grey is 12, although it would still class as a dark grey.
-
ok kiddos for grins try this then retake the test :)

-
11 & 12, the rest is black for me.
-
That's just to much work for me waffle, sorry:P
-
lol I did it, and was amazed at how clearly some of the new gauges popped out at me... Game looked really good to me afterwards. Even the skins that I did looked better than when I was working on them. Little monitor calibration never hurt no-one :)
Was figuring it would be helpful to some folks.
-
4
-
I consider 9 to be the last "grey".
I can see box #2, but barely...
-
Waffle, question, where did you get that "moniter claibrating" thing? or did you make it?
second i will say my home PC is just like work, the 10 text is barely visible, with my game playing settings set.
i will now do the moniter cal thing, and reply after
-
i only have 6500k and 9300k available.
i normally use 9300k, the 6500 makes everythign look redish
should i still try with 6500 or no?
did it with 6500, everything "white" has a pink tint to it.
to get the "12" to show brightness is now at 97%, contrast 100%
no change in conrast had an effect on the "white"
switched to 9300k and everything looks washed out
-

Did you set at 9300 then do the calibration? If looking at a difference between 93 and 65 - set at 9300 and then redo the calibration. If you still have the red - you going to have to adjust RGB values to what you percieve as white..ie reduce the red a bit..
Tough to do by eye.

double post.

yes.
there is a slight difference, the 9300 needs 85% brightness, and 100% contrast. no redness with it, and it tolerable for gameplay. i turn brightness down to about 30 for normal activities
-
I can see a distinction starting at 9 (8 is indistinguishable from the background, but I can see the number 8). However, I don't consider 12 grey, it's too dark. So I'm off the scale. And mind you, this is WITH gamma correction working on my monior. I see things normally (or should).

I need to set the adobe gamm loader up here. Suprfly and I are working on a project, he's got the adobe gamma loaded and cant see the shades past 7, which id RGB 70/70/70. This little thread and test id more for a curiosity issue and thoughts about having a "recommended" setting for AH, where everyone is in the same ballpark monitor setting wise. Last, maybe to help folks that are having issues with some of the gauges.
73 - im set at 35 brightness /100 contrast using 8600 kelvin on a syncmaster 997df newest monitor...my old moniter is pretty much dimed out :)
you can also google "monitor calibration" and it should turn up plenty of sites.
-
9 just. 10 I can see more clearly.

hmm thats odd...
i saved the file, opened in paint, and checked the value of 12.
it was 55/55/55
something to do with the JPG?
cc on the CAL thing, though i'd bet my moniter is getting old. it is a viewsonic E771 about 4-5 years old.
can't afford a new one, so i may be stuck
-
my bad - its 50-55 area..lol too many numbers in my head this afternoon.
The one monitor I've got dimed out is about 4-5 years old.
-
50-55 RGB for patch 7 or patch 12?
im confused.. i found the 55 for patch 12. i didn't test 7, but i can
-
grey is 11
something's wrong with my monitor lol
-
Just trying to get an idea of how folks "see" in game...lol
Outta of 36 responses dealing with the first picture in the first post...
Boxes 1-4: 16 /36 start seeing shades of grey here.
Boxes 5-8: 10/36 folks start seeing shades of grey here.
Boxes 9-12: 10/36 folks start seeing shades of grey here.
Couple saw complety black :) they need a new monitor or to calibrate it properly.
It's all preference, but if you can see boxes 2-5 or shades near those number, with definite shape recognition around 6-8, then you're in the ball park.

gamma calibration is highly influenced by ambient lighting, you guys with black might wanna check that.
-
Since grey isn't a true color but a blend I can't say which one is the "true" grey. I can say that the number of the faintest box I can make out is 3 using my LCD monitor.
-
I see the numbers 1-12.
1 looks black, 2 has some grey.
10 is what I normally think of as grey.
