Title: Batman
Post by: Sandman on June 15, 2005, 07:44:22 PM
Anyone see the new movie yet?

I wasn't at all interested, but the reviews have been so good, I'm actually considering a visit to a real theater rather than waiting for DVD.

Gotta love the big screen and surround sound, ya know?  Especially something as cool as Batman

Havent heard much bad about it.  Just glad to see its back minus that Tim Burton freak who killed the series last time

Couldn't disagree more. Burton made the best of the Batman movies. IIRC, he did the first two. Joel Schumacher was the one that screwed them up after that.

You and I disagree?  Say it aint so!  LOL

I hated the second one.  Batman peeling off his mask, all weepy and crap.  Sigh

And the others weren't much better either.  I'll give you that.

Still love the first one the best, with Nicholson

Best batmobile, too  :aok

Yeah, what Sandy said.  I don't care much for most of Tim Burton's stuff, but his Batmans were good stuff, or at least good enough to keep me entertained.  I'll prolly check this one out in the theater, but I'm not all that hopeful.

I went to see it at 3:30 today.

I liked it better than any of the others, including the first with Nicholson, which means little, lol.

The woman sitting two seats over with the cell phone has no idea how close she was to wearing a lapful of ice when I went to the restroom.

I like the original batman. Not the movies, but the 60's (?) series.  Nice and original.  the new batcar looks like some military attack vehicle from Dune and a Humbee had sex and thats what came out

Yes Joel Schumacher should be EMBARRASED for the batman movies he made, they were TERRIBLE

The movie is incredible.  Go see it.

I haven't had that big a grin on my face after a movie in a long time.  I hated the other Batman movies, but this one more than redeems the character.

If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go put on a cape and a mask and run around in the dark.

From the trailer it looks to be great. I might actually part with the cash and go see it.

Tim Burton did a decent job. As for the Schumacher films, they were geared towards the 10 and under crowd... I hope.

You should wear a cape while you're on the job!

wearing a mask (or a least a bag) at work could be novel.

Movie ROCKED!  Had a grin plastered on my face for most of the movie.  I wasnt so happy that they "updated" the batmobile.  But at least it was realistic.  This is more what Batman should be.

Right on! Best adaption of the Dark Knight to hit the big screen yet. Closest to Frank Miller's work by far. I can't wait for the sequel. Tim Burton's version was doom and gloom Batman meets Jack Skellingotn and Joel Schumacher's attempts should have stayed in the closet. Two Big Thumb's up from the Enforcer - Way up!

I went and saw War of the Worlds today.

I wish I'd have gone to see Batman.

But War of the Worlds stars todays foremost actor!  Tom Cruise's range of characters has run the gammut from cocky jerk in the MI films to cocky jerk in Rain Man, to an even more cocky jerk in Jerry Maguire.

What did he play in War of the Worlds?  Did he stretch yet again and play a cocky jerk?

Batman Begins is a decent flick. I was pleasantly surprised after the last two. "Returns" had been my favorite of the series thus far, but "Begins" is right up there. Only big nitpick was the pronunciation of Ra's Al Ghul after having heard it differently for so long in the animated series.

Tom cruise in any roll is "Tom Cruise playing ." He has the dynamic range of a brick. Ranks right up there with Ben Affleck in that there are a few movies that are good in spite of them being in it, not because of them being in it.

Oh he is the worst. The Last Samurai? I'm like, basically, it's not a military advisor embracing the Samurai culture he was hired to destroy - it's Tom Cruise in Japan. I cannot seem to be able to suspend my disbelief with that dude.

I thought that Tom Cruise was one of the better parts of an otherwise unimpressive effort.

He has surpassed Ben Afflek. He's in Kevin Costner territory.

Yeah, the new Batman was good stuff.  I enjoyed it a lot more than the first two Batmans, and I won't mention the remaining Batman flicks which were just garbage.  I still like the first two, but they're just, well, totally different.  Probably not worth comparing.

I really enjoyed Batman Begins.

The actors were excellent. Michael Caine was stealing the spotlights...

The only gripe I have with the story is the use of a "microwave device" which should have cooked everybody within a  2 miles radius.

Is anyone else getting a bit tired of comic book adaptions. Can't hollwood get a bit creative? We got the fantastic four coming next. I'll remember to miss that one just like I missed Batman Superman et all. The only one I went to see was Judge Dredd many moons ago and they murdered that completely. Comic book films? nein danke.

True, most comic-book adaptations suck, but there are a few that are worth seeing.

They've certainly improved on the genre. Remember Swamp Thing?

This summer:

Dukes of Hazzard
Bewitched
Herbie the Love Bug
The Longest Yard
War of the Worlds
Fantastic Four
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Bad News Bears

What do all these have in common?

Post by: Sandman on July 05, 2005, 11:04:14 AM
They're all either remakes or cinematic versions of television shows (or cartoons).

That or they could all be improved by having Jessica Simpson in the cast. ;)

I'd take  Alba over Simpson any day.

Wasn't very happy when first seeing the announcement for Bad News Bears remake, but I think casting Thornton in Matthau's role was a good idea. Still, doubt I'll see it until it hits video.

I saw it with my GF and her 2 teenage boys.

The guys liked it.... the female thought it was too long   lol

I gotta agree that it's the best one yet.  the characters and actors were first rate... hmmm  didn't care for Gary Olmans character too much and I usually like him.

But I had a smile on my face through the whole thing too......

Y'know what I remember most about the old Batman TV series? That it replaced my favorite show at the time: Combat, with Rick Jason and Vic Morrow. That's the most p'd off I've ever been at the TV scheduling, in my life. To have cancelled a show like Combat and replace it with, what I thought at the time, a dumb show like Batman.

"Sock-o!...Poweee!...Kaa-Powww!" sheesh!

Saw it, I have to say it is one of the only movies I have seen in awhile, that I walked away from it with no complaints.  The hallucination scenes were trippy to say the least.  And what a great way to tie in a sequel/end the movie.
