So IL2 can get 200+ people in the arena now?????
If not, no interest here.. No use at all for Boxed games.. Exactly what good are planes that you cant fly against other people?
The 190a5 is useless with even 1 loadout if ya cant fly it against other people!!

Wardog, I don't think DA98 was trying to convert you, just relaying info.
And you can actually fly it against other people....well ya can if you can actually get online with it just not quite 200 of them.

Wardog, I'm not trying to convert anyone, the post is just for the people who bought IL-2 or may be interested in buying it. There was great expectation about what the new plane could be, so I thought that some people might be interested in knowing that the plane is the Fw-190 A5 (with a lot of toys to play with :D).
About the MP... I played some MP missions with the beta, and you are right, there aren't 400 players connected as in the MA, 16/32 (coop/dogfight) is the maximum. But if you tried and liked the CT arena, you know that you don't need 400 players to have fun in a realistic environment :).

It is a perfectly crappy game if you want 200 AWAC's following dweebs gangbanging you and stealing your kills, insulting you all the while. On the other hand, you and 15 of yer Buds can fly it and have time of your life.

nope, still not sold.
After 5 years in AW-DOS, 5 Years in WBS and 2 years in AH, i still have no interest in the Boxed game. Even in AH latenight early moring i can find 80 or so guys flying.
16/32 guys in IL2, they all on at different times of the day, 24 hours a day?
Gladfly, im sure your a good shoe salesman. Please stay with it, cause sellin Box games just aint workin for ya ;)

the on-line is not near as big as aces but for individual missions it kicks ass.
you can set up 16 guys on a mission, define objectives and if somebody don't show your nights not screwed you just assign his slot to ai. this game rocks i traded in all my other flight sims last weekend.

It isn't for everyone, and I had serious doubts, but, provided 5 or 8 people can hook up, it is sweet. It won't replace AH or any other game; think of it as an extremely detailed Scenario, something you organize, not a MA type thing.

It's not MMPG but it is a sim with nice FM and DM and stunning graphics with real looking cockpits, snow-storms and rains, lightnings etc etc.
It'w worth of money :)

You who have IL2, try to sometime set up big artillery to barrage a city with enemies in there and then set up few cameras and go enjoy the show :)
Especially interesting with subwoofer.

Well, Wardog, I played WB for 2 years, AH for 2, and now I prefer a setup like il2 to MMOP. If I was into arena play I'd probably still be into AH. But Il2 makes historical missions come alive. Of course, there's none of the versatility of AH or WB or AW, but my WWII interests reside in the Great Patriotic War, and not much else :)

Yeah Gadfly. And here in AH we don't even have a decently-represented Fw190F8 (they even discuss you wether it had wing racks for DT and heavy bombs or not...sheesh)...
I ordered my copy of Il-2 today. Hopefully next week I'll have it. I had my personal fears about that game FM but it seems that it is at least credible enough to make it immersive. Plus there are lots of loadout options for each plane.
Worth a try.

Getting somewhat pissed at UBIsoft.. Where in the hell is this patch? The Russian version had the patch available over 24 hours ago... what the hell is this roadkill?
They chose a crappy distributer when they went with ubisoft.

Go the demo, tryed it.. Couldnt find 200+ people to fight. Deleted it..
Am pretty sure those who like playing with themself will have fun with it.
If they open an online arena like AH, WB, AW then my interest might be peaked.
LUPO never bothered to read my post right through, i stated very politly that i had no interest in IL2 and my reasons for it. Cant see where i told anyone to fekoff, get lost or go sleep with there sister.. So im not quite sure what your on about :)
It could have the perfect FM, but without 200 or 300 people to try it against, why bother. Its got missions, like Doom?? Never took an interest in that either..

I think the most you can ever see is, what, 32? The rest are just stuff happening around you, unseen, and so far as it affects you may as well be AI driven. That is what IL-2 is.
Wardog, I won't look up the posts, but my reaction after doing the demo was pretty much like yours, if not more vociferous. I was wrong.

i still play the demo because im a borke ass.
Best thing to do is set up a quick mission and have 20 friendlys and 12 enemy bombers with escorts. and set the alt above 5000. The con trails are awsome!

Would be nice,but I think we need to wait with all that untill broadband is the standard.
Right now all online games have to be playable with a dial-up connection because most people sill use dial-up.
Just think about the amount of data needed to be flowing in a full out online war.
56k can`t do it,and releasing games for only broadband users is a move no developer
have the balls to do yet.

Yes, it's not perfect, yes I hate the viewing system but the attention to detail where it matters (planes, damage etc) is simply mind boggling. You can watch training missions as a movie it's so pretty...
Multiplayer? There are active squadrons out there, I know 5 GvIAP is doing training on-line ;) It's only a question of time when servers will be up and running with scenarios etc.
200 people on-line? Hmmm... You never see at least 170 of those and get involved with a dozen at the most in any one time. What was the problem again? If you don't like it - it's fine but personally I think you're shortchanging yourself there :)
I just hope that with time more planes will become player controlled - I16 and I153 vs 109Es and He111s - yum! :)
I also wonder if there are language options for people who don't speak Russian since you do need to know what your wingmen and gunners tell you? ;)

That`s a good idea,and I`ve actually seen it done on the zone I think.
Maybe they`d have to make two different netcodes for the broadband and the modem users.

For IL-2 online players who want an option to using either UbiSoft or HyperLobby, check out "The All-Seeing Eye".
Besides providing metaserver support to a ton of online games such as Ghost Recon, Operation Flashpoint, Rogue Spear etc, I noticed that they are supporting IL-2 under their (believe it or not) "oldies" section.
It's FREE.
