I've been going through the posts on this board, trying to catch up and see what kind of community this is, and I have noticed something that seems to be rehashed every so often, and that is the notion of "honor," ie, Alt-F4ing to escape death, running from a fight rather than engaging, only to pounce once your "opponent" is busy with another con, vulching, HOing, and intentional warping. As a newbie I've come to realize quite a few things that have become evident...
1) If I don't HO you, you will HO me. I can't count the number of times I'm seeking the merge and I hear BABABABABABABa as they pass me, or lose a wing or some other damage. I can avoid it around 75% of the time, but sometimes I get sparked. I'm not counting a HO as one scored after a merge, that's just silly--after the merge everything's gravy.
2) Some people will try and land a shattered plane, thus not giving you the kill (if this will in fact still give you a kill, then I may have to add this to the next observation). If I'm hit bad and I'm going down, lost a wing or my tail or what have you, I'll bail or just crash in as loud a fashion as I can. I don't try to land. If someone put enough work into me to make me go down, they deserve the kill. I can't count the amount of times I've been alone in the sky and blasted a con w/ 20mms, watched them go down in flames or minus a wing or a tail and then waited for the kill... and waited... and waited... I fly a Zero usually so those 20s burn up quickly; one or two lengthy engagements and I'm heading home, so when someone lands their battered plane or gets out of the kill, I'm out a couple minutes of my time flying there. Whereas if the con had bailed, gotten the Shot Down by message, they could re-up and come back for blood.
3) Alt-F4/intentional disco: Not good. Nothing more to say besides that. It smacks of bad sportsmanship and a childish mentality. Unintentional discos suck worse. I had a con vanish off my six last night in the MA and laughed pretty hard... I was bingo and on final approach when he discoed. No way he planned that one!
These are just a few things I've noticed. I've decided that, depending on my ride, I will HO only when the enemy appears to be willing to do the same, though I may also set up a HJO atempt, depending on my mood. This is the internet; there is no honor system here when you can be shot down twice, only to re-up a third time and hit someone on RTB w/ bingo. I will also endevour to crash as spectacularly as possible and as often as possible (and seeing as my K/D rank is sloooooowly improving, I'll be crashing a LOT!), hopefully filming some for my enjoyment! I will also enjoy the heck out of being shot down three times by MX1, take up a LA7 and hunt him down... only to be shot down a 4th time by him! for that, by the way, it was a learning experience. :aok
And most importantly I wil continue to enjoy my time here. to everyone, even the kill-stealing, field-vulching, Alt-F4ing, alt-monkeying, GVing, LAmer-7-flying, kill-ditching, strato-diving, HOing folks.
-
Basically, play how you like...like how you play. In the end the question you should ask yourself is, "am I having fun?" If the answer is yes, than carry on.

Planes with a missing wing or tail cannot land. If he was able to land, you did not do enough damage to deserve a kill.

Dont think I ever had anyone disconenct intentionaly, but every time I got the kill. Delayed, but I got it. Not sure if you need to put atlist 1 round in them or not.

You are absolutly right. If you don't have a sence of sportmaship, honor, respect, or whatever you want to call it, you are not going to find it on the internet. YOu have to bring it with you. However, thats not a requirement. Its up to you.
-
Everyone has their own line, what is an what isn't acceptable behavior... of the issues you mentioned alt-f4 is where I draw mine. HO-ing I tend to avoid them only because I'm really bad at hitting planes coming towards me. But I never asume my opponent will not fire because of some notion of honor. I will always try to ditch a damaged plane if I can but I don't get angry when someone tries to shoot me while trying to do so, just like I will try and finish off an opponent who is trying to ditch in turn, unless they caught me on an overly generous night.
Basically it comes down to having fun, but I do think some people would be hard pressed to argue that alt-f4-ing and other tricks as acceptable behaviour.
-
Intentional warping or Alt F4ing are pretty serious in everyone’s book; the rest is all personal preference. It sometimes takes folks many years to realize that no matter what they do they will not be gallant knights in shining armor; it’s just a dumb flight sim after all.

A couple of times in really slow fights I've accidently ditched a badly damage plane (it can happen). When I've exited to tower, the opponent got the kill.

Are you kiddin? If the bad guy on my 6 can't knock me out of the sky, Why should I bail? If I can keep my ride in the sky long enough to get home, thats what I'll do. How is this dishonorable? I don't get it. It seems to me that the two basic objectives to this game are:
1: "Kill" other people.
2: Don't get "killed" by other people.
If I can get away from you by diving faster than your Zeke, Thats the way I'll do it. If you don't want to follow up on your kill, well too bad for you. If my ride shows no signs of being conrollable, obviously I'm going in. But if extra aileron, rudder or elevator input will keep me aloft, you'd better get back on my 6 and finish the job. A6M has awesome range and you should be able to catch any fighter thats limping that badly. Are you really suggesting that your opponent should bail just because you happened to ping him once or twice? Thats obsurd. Alot of guys have taken seemingly wasted birds home, minus various vital parts or fluids, and I respect their abilities alot more than someone who would just hit the silk. There will be no "freebie" kills for you.

Excellent observations for someone claming to be a newb. Whether "honor" plays into any of it... that is anyone's guess.

Learn to avoid it on the merge. Quite frankly, if I hear guns blazing as the other guy blazes past, I'm prone to start drooling as I know it's not someone I would necessarily worry about. It's the quiet ones that make me pucker

I feel it's my responsibility to try and land a busted up plane... if nothing else, for the challenge. Of course, I fully expect the other pilot to try and prevent this :D If I manage to get down and not provide the kill to the enemy plane, I'll throw a generic salute on 200 to the Spit V at A71 from Rook Typhoon or whatever the matchup was.

3) Alt-F4/intentional disco
As some of the other replies have stated, I haven't seen this lame behavior for a long time. I tend to see a C47 land and exit to tower more often than discoing in flight. Still sad... nothing shows a lack of imagination more than NOT trying to get the other guy to auger while you are in a goon :aok

You bet your your arse I'll try and land. Althougth this is a game I try my best to stick to the ethics of the scenerio. I don't bail to get the next ride even if a goon is needed ASAP. I don't bail or ALT F4 (giving kill away) because 3 or 4 guys will kill me.
If my plane is shot to hell I'll take the CHALLENGE of landing it,as so many real WW11 guys did. Remember the craft is valuable, needed, not easy to replace etc. You can ping me up as much as u like but if i'm too damaged to fight the planes getting landed. Your loss my gain.:p
Never take the HO off the bat. Judge the merge make the plan get the 6. However, a 2, 3,4 on 1 will at some time actuate a HO. I would take the shot because the chances of living are slim. "Take two with you" was a moto.
As for Zero pilots I ain't come across one yet that doesn't stop fighting even though is arse is blazing. Those things burn for about a 40 to 50 seconds. Enough time for the chard pilot to kill U!:o
As 4 AH pilot ethics this can be summed up in 2 ways. There are those that pay $15 to play a WW11 combat sime or there are those that pay 25 Cents. Unfortunatly 25 cents ethics dominate.

This is just silly ,so your saying just because you have badly damaged a plane that they have no right to try to rtb? Guess Robert Johnson should have augered his 47 ,after it was pounded so bad that it never flew again, instead of trying to rtb . LOL

Robert Johnson was a real life pilot; this is not real life. You can do what you want; it's your dime. I won't deny another pilot their kill. I bail or crash. What you do is what you do; doesn't mean I can't have a preference. :)
Alpo: I'm new to this game but I've read up on the boards a little and I played the original AW back when it was free, so I know a bit about flight sims, and I'm always learning.

Us Asians consider "honor" as "giving the enemy an honorable death so he will not be shamed" :)
So, no conflictions of 'honor' when we play AH. Just kill the guy, and you're doing him honor :D

Getting this battered 38G down was an accomplishment :)
Not that I'm not used to being in a shot up 38G, but just the same.....
It was after getting HO'd however so I didn't feel bad that he didn't get the kill.
I keep the guy in the bottom image in mind whenever I'm in that spot :)

yesterday i shot down a A8 his wing fell off.
So i went for another victim guess what some dork stole the kill.
The fw was no danger and on the way down still it got 2-3 bishdorks tring to kill it.
Just wonder how bad is killstealing in rook and knitland.

I've managed a number of lands/ditches with a missing wing. As long as you were low and relatively level when you lost the wing you can use rudder to keep you stable enough to land.
I don't like to think of it as denying someone a kill. It's more that I'm trying to save the life of my little pilot dude.

Actually, the loss of pilots had a much larger effect on the war than the loss of planes. Once all the aces had been shot down it became a turkey shoot on the noob's.
Can you plz explain the 25 cents thing? I know it's early and I havn't had my coffee yet but that one went over my head. Thanks :)

Respect is something earned but cannot be given until you have some for yourself. I know your kind and make the assumption from the fact that you thought it 'cool' to post that picture.
I don't have to know the kid in that picture I've know many like him. My oldest son has CP. I guess it all boils down to experience of which you have none. A little growing is in order.

I guess your right about one thing: I don't have much experience with a certain type of being, but, I do have enough to know that advice, from stereotypical people, are generally worthless.
A little growing is in order.
Once again, thanks for the unnecessary advice. I had no idea that my "kind" needed to continue growing. Here's a bit of obvious advice for you: stay alive!
On a humble and iterative note, what exactly do I not know about your child that would make you say I need to become half the man he is? I can understand if you do not wish to discuss his secret, but I ask you with a natural curiosity, so that I gain this experience for my escape from a recently advised ignorance.

Sorry but you seem to be a waste of my time. You are the victim of a reprobate mind. Revel in your ignorance, you will go far.

I wouldn't be wasting your time if you never put upon yourself the responsibilty of explaining to me what you said and why. You took the chance, expected me to know, and found yourself to be wrong. Explain or be left explained.
I can assure that your morals are unlike mine, but I am confident that is no different from anyone else you have met.
There is, in my opinion, nothing wrong with ignorance. I am ignorant, but also curious, and will publicly profess it. Infact, it would be unnatural otherwise.

paul, you obviously posted something that offended a parent of a child with c/p.
you really have three options at this point.
1.apologise (the good option)
2.drop it (not as good)
3.continue on as you are (really poor taste)
come on Paul, this is pretty easy one. Option one would show some class, but please at least pick option 2. This has gone on far 'nuff.

Actually Dip you've gone a long way to earn peoples respect so you have little room for those kinds of statements to anyone. What goes around comes around and you get back what you give.
I have no fear that more of the garbage you continue to feed people will come back to haunt you in many ways. But, hey! It's a game and I know you sure do enjoy knowing what people think of you. :D

There was once a saying in AH and I believe it was from an old advert (hearsay because I never sure the advert), "So much fun for only 25 Cents a day". 25 Cents a day being $15 a month or there abouts.
Now the "Parody" of 25 cents is "Arcade". Put ya 25 cents in the slot and pull the triger till the money runs out. Bang in another coin and repeat. So what I'm getting at, if your not pulling my plonker, there are those that will "Dive bomb or low level bombers, those that just up a plane with only the knowledge of HO. Those that will pork a base to max effect without the a single notion of RTB". Those that'll set up a "Vulch" with no intention of taking the base.
In my mind the guy that pays $15 is attempting to re-create the WW11 combate methods. Bombing with alt and actually, wait for it, calibrating! A guy attempting to learn ACM, SA etc. A player who says to themselv'es. If it didn't really happen why do it here.
Am not having a dig at "land grabbers" or "Furballers" not having a dig at any oneparticular side. There is a festering undertone that is becoming dominant and "folks" it should really be discouraged. :aok

You're a good man Spaatz. My comments were not directed at your squad. I'm sure you have a great bunch of guys.
While my comments were directed towards Paul, he certainly is not alone in posting so childishly. It was meant for everyone who has been posting this crap.
Picking on or poking fun at someone who cannot defend themselves is pathetic. I've always defended the underdog no matter what the situation. Most of these kids and their parents are heros in my book.
That's all I have to say on the subject for now.
My apologies to Arcades057 for somewhat highjacking his thread.
Thanks again Spaatz and thank you WMLute.

I agree what Paul said was uncalled for and wrong. However, if you actually believe anything dip says is true then I have some really great Nevada Beach Front property that I can get for you. But, it won't come cheap as it will be prime real estate one day. Honor is not something he has been noted for in AH.

Ren i think u should drop it. This does not involve you. Anytime a BK is in a thread or conversation he/they always get witty comments from you. I have no problem with you and never did. The thing i wish you would do is quit messing with the BKs as you have some sort of personal thing with them it seems. It's kinda annoying. Just drop it alright. I've been flying with Dipstick for nearly 3 years and he is a great squaddie and person who i enjoy playing this game with and that goes for all the BKs. Just because some say their opinion does not need you always jumping all over them. So i'm asking u to leave them alone. As said before i have no problem with you or anyone in this game but leave it be alright.
Thanks and Regards,

As far as the honor in game thingy goes. Treat it like you should do in life, expect everyone you deal with to be unhonourable and deceptive, and be happy when they aren't. Have a plan for each of the extremes and as many points in between as possible.

No my gallant but mislead friend, in this arena what a guy needs is good SA, excellent aerial gunnery, and a heart as cold as an ice pick.
This is supposed to be a simulation of combat. In combat there is no room for compassion, and no points for second place.
Give in to the Dark Side of the Force :aok

I always let them get some air speed up.
I always cold merge.Never Ho shoot.
People like you are the reason this game is like this, noobs who know nothing other than Hoing and vulching, watch out it's prolly the only thing you'll ever know.
If you want this aspect demonstrated then stop by the H2H rooms and i will show You the way.
This game use too be a fun flight sim,a good sign that it's going down hill is the FFA mentality in the DA,and Vulching in the DA,i mean come on Vulching in the DA.

I never HO unless it looks like the other guy is trying to avoid the HO, then I ping him if I can. HO is worthless if you are going to take damage yourself. However, a good trick is to look like you are trying to avoid the HO, roll under and pull up at the last second for a less than D100 snapshot. You can often get a wing, oil, or fuel hit.
>> People like you are the reason this game is like this, noobs who know nothing other than Hoing and vulching, watch out it's prolly the only thing you'll ever know.
I know more than just HO and vulching. I am very good at cherry picking, gang banging, and flying with hordes. So, I have learned other things :)
>> If you want this aspect demonstrated then stop by the H2H rooms and i will show You the way.
I have never flown in a H2H room, I am not even sure how to do it (log into a H2H server). And I am not sure what it is that you plan to show me ??? I am very good at HO, vulching, cherry picking, etc. Still one can always learn more. Maybe we should have a vulching clinic in the TA for Noobs???
I see a sociopathic anger in you that needs to express itself. Search your inner feelings… the Dark Side is calling you… you could rule the Universe grasshopper.

I use too hold clinic 's in the TA all the time.Nobody listened too anything they still fly below 5-K and become victims for all.

I do not understand what it is that you plan to show me? Your suppressed anger seems to be clouding your ability to express yourself.
You must learn to channel this anger into your flying. It is the strength of the Dark Side. As you channel the Force into your flying, you will crush your enemies.
>> I use too hold clinic 's in the TA all the time.Nobody listened too anything they still fly below 5-K and become victims for all.
I see Grasshopper that you fly above 5K, you therefore may have some inner desire to be an alt-monkey. There may be a part of you which wished to express itself as a Cherry-Picker. You have much of the Force in you. Allow your anger to flow as you pounce on those below you. Become one with the cannon shells flying from your plane into the enemy in front of you. Feel them rip the other plane apart as you send the other pilot into oblivion….

LoL, AKfoder, you are the man, man. You should be one of the people who takes those new to the game under his wing. When I first started I figured that HOing was the work of Satan and that no one HO'd except for idiots... then I got HO'd on every merge and I learned.
Speaking of which, I'vr only been here for a few weeks and I've learned that almost everyone HO's; almost everyone vulches... yet there are those that say the tactics I just named are used only by "n00bs," which makes me wonder how many true vets there are in this game and how many "n00bs."
You cracked me up, AKFoder...
As for the online honor thing, it only exists if you bring it with you; I learned that from Rival. bud.

You can,t manuver and gain speed in a furball under 5-K.
We can turn and burn at 5-K or 25-K,makes no difference too me.
Matter of fact,i might just start my subscription again just too show you G.I.
P-40 - B's Hocake
I,ll even be fair and let you up a A6M.

Are you challenging me to a duel? White gloves and pistols at dawn?
First of all, I haven't seen any score for anyone named Tedstykr. So, you must have misspelled your name?? Or are you not intrested in letting us know how and what you fly? Or maybe you don't fly at all and just post on the BBS? Whine about how others play a game that you don't play? Now how's that for "Honor"? LOL
Now back to the duel. I don't fly P-40's or A6M. I have flown a Seafire a bit this month. But I fly a Seafire like I do any other plane. I stay in the vertical, BNZ, and so far, I am something like 29K and 2D with the Spit. Of course flying a Spit is like using training wheels, but it is lots of fun. So I will not turn and burn with you. Turn n burn, means you burn off your E, and in the MA that means you have turned into a target for guys who fly like I do.
I like the FW 190D9 or the PonyD. I fly the Dora more though, about 32K and 2D with it this month. It is fast, extremely manueverable, good acceleration, handles well in a dive, good firepower, and pretty as a rose in spring.
As for the K/D it means more that I know how to fly in the MA than that I am a good pilot. In fact, I suck as a pilot. I don't fly wheels and flaps down bleeding my e. I fly fast, and just high enough to keep an advantage over my targets.
So, if you will book a time for the duel, pick the plane, and if I don't get there, start without me, and make sure you let me know how well I did. :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

Thats what i figured another baby seal.
Your not gonna find a score for this name,Duh!I did say in the H2H
I flew for a long time in the MA,you can have it.
Come down too Tomcat's FFA about 3 in the A.M. eastern time, you'll get a 1 on 1 duel,i know you'll limp away having learned something.
Better yet you prolly won,t learn anything being a Baby Seal, and baby Seals don,t learn anything.
When you do get some Gonads come look me up i,ll make you a skilled Killer,Garunteed!

I have been on the road or flying all day, 2 flights were in a Cessna 206 :( (I'm not a pilot, I just flew as baggage, I log a lot of hours in small planes as part of my job) I just got back to Homer and managed to log into the network it is about 10 PM Alaska time. BTW tomorrow I plan to spend some time fishing for King Salmon (it sux to be me)
Now, lets see where we are in this....
You are definately letting your anger come out... good.. good. The meaningless name calling shows potential, but you really need to master the anger...channel it into the stream of lead comming from your machine guns and cannons. It is your anger, focused by your will that shall enable you to master the universe.
Come into the main arena and hunt me down. Let your anger flow as you "teach me a lesson", destroy me and you will gain the "true power". If you can down me, then you will have shown all the others in the arena to fear you. Then they will surrender to your wisdom and stop the HOing and Vulching and Gang-banging.
Your destiny is to restore order to the force. The Main Arena becons you... search your feelings...
BTW, how did I do in the duel? :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
-
why so you can fly with the protection of your friends?
why not 1 on 1 in a private setting?

Sorry for ignoring you, been way too busy. I am in Port Graham again , and as soon as I get back to Homer this afternoon I plan to go fishing for King Salmon :)
>>then I got HO'd on every merge and I learned.
In the MA, anything goes. You have to expect the unexpected. Just like real dog-fighting; where all is fair, and there are no points for second place.
Learn to avoid the HO without bleeding your energy. Ailerons use the least amount of energy of your control surfaces. So a slight roll to the left or right is all you need to throw off the other player’s gunnery. By roll I don’t mean a barrel roll, just a slight movement to the side, and then back to your original direction, make sure you also head just a bit below the bogey, never above. If all is well, you can sometimes pull up at the last second and rip him up with a well placed burst, but such a move will come at the cost of a lot of energy as you will have to put a lot of elevator into it. A good place to practice 11-1 o’clock deflection shooting is the off-line drones. A couple of hours of practice, and you will be surprised at how easy it is. Never go straight at another plane in the HO unless you are being gang-banged, upping at a base being vulched, or some other situation where you have nothing to lose. Otherwise a HO is just a darn good chance of taking a lot of damage for a single kill.
>> Speaking of which, I'vr only been here for a few weeks and I've learned that almost everyone HO's; almost everyone vulches...
Such is the Main Arena. You would be surprised to see how many of the really good sticks in here get off on vulching. Guys who you know could kick your butt (and have) one on one. And you see them swooping down on a bogey taking off. Vulching can be a lot of fun, but I really find it gets boring real fast. I would rather cherry-pick a furball any day. Keep at about 4-6 K, or at least 2 K above the furball, learn to detect the low e, or target fixated bogeys, then swoop down and rip them to shreds. Use patience, and never press a fight in a furball, or someone like me will take your wing off ;) Use a fast ride with good acceleration like a PonyD, 190D9, 109G10, if you are really good use a Typhie, Hog, or a Hellcat, and the C205 can be deadly for cherry-picking furballs.
Stay away from the LA7’s, and NIKI’s they will keep you from learning true SA. You must learn to fly with your mind, and not use brutal climb and acceleration to get you out of situations where your reason should not have taken you. Spits are way to slow, unless you plan to turn and burn. And you will need another to give recommendations on how to fight that way.
Never rely on anyone to keep your six clear, or to give you six calls. You are ultimately responsible to ensure that your six is clear. The other planes my find themselves engaged, or engrossed in other things.
I hunt the arena; all that flies and is red is a potential target. Be the predator; and view all enemies are your prey.
:)

Same as the other planes just less Energy involved.A spit Mk 9 will E fight with the best of them,as will a Spit Mk 14.

The theories of logic (as I understand them) would seem to dictate that truths need to be subjected to:

2. Empirical Adequacy
3. Experiential Relevance

This guy is worse than I'am. :rofl
If you come here looking for respect and honor your in the wrong place. The only place you'll find respect and honor is when your with your squadmates. Many so called friendlies will turn on you in a heartbeat. They'll also leave you hanging right after you cleared their 6. Basically fly for yourself and for your squadmates not everyone else on your country. I've been there and done that and it's not worth it to wait and find out who you can and can't trust.
Over time you'll figure out who you can trust in the long run. I'd have to say there's maybe a dozen of those types of people. Most figure if your not in their squad then you mean nothing to them. Instead of thinking if they help save you not only will they get the same in return when the time comes but that's one more guy/gal on your side to help fight against the enemy.
You can't and won't gain any trust, respect or honor if 90% of the time your only worried about yourself and your squadmates. I'd much rather have 1 new pilot flying along my side than a top notched squad full of selfish players. Atleast you will know that 1 new pilot will do everything in their power to help when the time comes, even if it means you both get shot down. Their effort ranks alot higher in my mind than any squad that is full of the best pilots in the game but only knows and thinks about self preservation.

Landing a damaged plane is one of game highlights for me. Nothing is much better than landing a shot up plane and getting credit for kills!
Ditching is ok. Vulching, cherry picking, and gangbanging can be pretty fun. I am not fond of ramming, HO'ing, or killstealing. It's all personal preference.
Btw, the cub scout picture was in extremely poor taste.

It takes DMF at least 12 sorties to score 6 kills and he ALWAYS fights in a crowd ... he will never allow himself to be in an area or situation that he would be forced to fight by himself. I am constantly getting this guy out of trouble.

Leviathns’ scores for this tour so far as a fighter.
K/D as a fighter 7.46
Kills per sortie 4.3
Kills per hour 17.5
Hit percentage 16.7
Total kills as a fighter 220
Fighter Rank #9
Why bless your little heart Strykker, you are right; Leviathn is a pansy! Thank you for revealing this “truth” to us.
I said in an earlier post that:

Smart move lev!

I always ignore the way people "engage", a HO or turn fite all same to me.
Its a game, I get annoyed with my play sumtimes like all rest, but will endevour to give a on channel 200 whatever happens/happened.
Had a fite with a N1K once, he downed me, I upped and re-engaged only for him to report on 200 that he was outta ammo and missing tip of left wing from last scrape with me. Could see the damage. Gave salute again and headed home.
Sometimes "honour" does play a part, but its a purely individual thing and a point of view.
He landed successfully and saluted me on 200 for letting him home, gotta kinda warm feeling over that.
But that's just me. If you want cheap kills, take them, its your money, your game, your tactics.
Each to their own.
Smiggy.

I've done the same, Smiggy and felt better for it.
The only honor is what you bring with you.
