First of all...has anyone used the free E-Vite service to send free event invitations by e-mail?
If so can you confirm that when the link in the e-mail is clicked that adware, malware etc is not placed on the recipient's machine?
My wife...an internet genius claims that this is indeed the case (no security issues at all)...and claims that she clicked on one such links when a friend of a friend invited her to a wedding shower.
Now, this is the first I have learned of such "clicking". My first question to her was "Did you do this before or after I had to get my IT guy to rebuild my machine last year due to copius worm invasions, adware and malware?" My second question..more of an observation actually...was "Why am I learning about you clicking on links in e-mails NOW after such adamant denials of having EVER clicked on any e-mail links during the hell I was having trying to clean my computer up last year?"
Very interesting.
Anyhoo...now she is miffed at me for suggesting that maybe this e-vite thing isn't a great idea (I for one would NEVER click on the link to an invitation even if I knew the sender) and got all squirrley and said "Fine...you do all the invitations"...this is for my big 4-0 next month.
Your thoughts? (and she will be reading the responses, so please be civil)

I don't know about the spyware. But I want to know what a "wedding shower" is, and if you'd let me go with your wife.
:D

lol...not as exciting as you think SAW, I'm afraid. Just a girly party...and no, not THAT kind of girly party.
But, thanks for being civil. ;)

Curval,
I've answered a few E-vite invitations while I was still using 98SE without suffering any adverse effects. Haven't been sent one in over a year though :(
Have you tried going over your PC with
Ad-aware (http://reviews.cnet.com/Lavasoft_Ad-aware_SE_Personal_Edition_106/4505-3667_7-31349711.html)
and
Spybot Search & Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html) ?
I've found both to be very effective in zapping all forms of malware.

Curv my understanding is that the E-Vite service is not at the moment spyware.
I recommend you or anyone else who has a problem with hijackers go here http://help.lockergnome.com/ .Register. You will then be able to post. By post I mean post a HIJACKTHIS log. After you register click on "PROBLEM SOLVERS" forums. Then click on "HIJACKTHIS LOGS". Post your problem in the HIJACKTHIS FORUM. An expert will get to you within a few days to guide you to a clean machine :)
You may submit your HijackThis log files to any of the below Forums for
expert analysis. I personally like http://help.lockergnome.com/ As this is where I learned to read Hijackthis logs.
