OK, finally.
Now which one of you wants to be the importer for smokers and rubs that I will cheerfully box up and send over to stock your store?
Once the Brits start tasting this stuff, a lot of Indian restaurants are going out of business. ;)
-
Ya know Toad, you have the makings of a great business there ;)
-
The wood may be the problem; pretty heavy to ship.
Do you guys still have lots of English Oak? Oak gives a great flavor, even though hickory and mesquite are the usual suspects around the US.
-
I use apple and maple, sometimes white oak.
apple is real good.
-
It's not a bad idea at all - it's 28 degrees C in Wimbledon today and one can hardly see the other side of the street for all the barbecue fires...
-
try guava. it's a very hard wood and the flavor is tropical. you'll be in the caribbean in your mind.
-
If it ain't mesquite, it's not fit to eat.

Would LOVE to try apple.
Where the hell can you get it?
I cant find it anywhere.
the closest I've come was once before I had a smoker I helped a buddy of mine chop some up for his wood burning stove.
Smelled so good I wanted to take a bite out of the split logs LOL
Havent seen hide nor hair of any since

I do Oak. Hickory and mesquite.
Of the 3 your right. mesquite is the best. Particularly for beef
Though I think Hickory is a tad better tasting for any kind of pork
-
as for the original post. I think its time to buy stock in Brinkmann LOL

Dred,
If all else fails, you can order it from Cabela's. There's 6 woods in the drop down menu here:

Dred, well I'm lucky enough to have a neighbour that has an apple tree ;) so I get a couple of pounds a year from him. Any apple orchards near by? ask them about buying some of their trimmings?
RPM, gotta agree that mesquite is great, but ya have to understand that it's kinda hard to find up here, and generaly a lot more expensive when I do find some. Just imagine some apple smoked baby backs though ;)
-
mesquite is not only yummy, it's also a very beautiful tree.

We USED to have several orchards in my area. But new development made them go bye bye for use of HUGE houses on postage stamp peices of property. (not to mention the farmlands)
there is one but every time I've remembered to stop there nobody has been around.
I'll be driving through Western/northwestern NJ in a couple weeks and see if they have any that way if I remember lol
Worse comes to worse I'll use Toads suggestion and order some from Cabelas

I have an apple tree, it never occurred to me to use the wood. I think I will try it.
