Aces High - movie details (http://www.radiotimes.com/ListingsServlet?event=10&channelId=26&programmeId=29295906&jspLocation=/jsp/prog_details.jsp)

Well well - I'd never even heard of this movie. Cracking cast, if the first six names are anything to go by. I'm recording this on DVD, and will watch it tonight.

I seem to remember seeing thing movie and hearing about this movie and how they made it.

If its the same movie Im thinking about (WWI setting)

Not only did they use many former WWI fighter pilots for the dogfight scenes but those guns were firing live ammo.

If its the same film it has some of the best dogfighting sequences I've seen yet bar none

Moments of emotional isolation work well, but a visit to a brothel is simply trite.

Proof that all movie critics are ghey.

Yes Dred - that was the one. I've just finished watching it. Turns out it was filmed on location at Wycombe Air Park - the airfield where I learned to fly in the early 80s.

I couldn't help noticing how close the planes had to be before opening fire - about 50ft or less. No 1000yd shots for these guys!

I enjoyed that film. I do have a soft spot for WW1 aviation films. As I said in another thread I actually witnessed the making of two WW1 movies. 'The Blue Max' and the 'The Red Baron'. They were made at the airfield I later learned to fly in. It's fun to watch them and see familiar sights. Until recent years you could stlll see evidence of the movie sets. I even picked up a German army ammunition pouch one day.

The Red Baron was called something else in the USA for some reason. 'Von Richthofen and Brown' I think, something like that.
