I've read alot about the above option ,99.9% with a negative opinion towards a player who does it to seemingly avoid giving somebody the satisfaction a kill. It turns out whoever had rounds in em gets the kill anyway, albeit a bit delayed. When it has happened to me I usually give them the benifit of the doubt and figured they were discoed,no fault of their own.
Anyway I wonder why AH even made it an option?
If a person has an emergent need to leave the game they can simply use the alt-cntrl-delete and they're outta there.
Besides being the standard issue newbie initiation joke I see no use for it.
Can anyone shed some light?AH?

alt f4 is a standard windows shortcut to close the current task (i believe, my wording might be off there)
it should work on pretty much everything, IE included. (go on! try it!)
-
I tried it last night when the 120mm leser guided wife ack started firing but it did not seem to work.
Could be the ack had damaged my fingers though. :lol

Alt-F4 is a windows command, not an aces high feature.
as Furball said, it closes the active window
-
Roger that! I've never heard of that feature before this game. I know just enough about Windows to be dangerous and make sure this game runs well. Thanks for the lesson.
-
NP...
now you know how to kill those pop ups fast at the pr0n sites ; )
just hold down alt f4 if you get in a nasty internet place, it will kill it all.
-
Yes, alt-f4 is the shortcut for windows to send the WM_CLOSE message to the active window, but it doesn't work for everything. Hitech can choose to ignore this message and force the game to be closed only from within (or forcibly killed in task manager). It IS up to the app.
-
Ah ha well then back to my original question. If AH has choosen to make the Alt-F4 a viable option in the application, why is it needed? And I think if given the choice they should snuff it!
I'm tired of seeing the text dweebs trying to lure someone into doing it usually after a newbie question is asked in MA.
It only leads to frustration and discouragment on the part of the question asker, and possibly one less paying subscriber to the game. This is the real reason AH should can it if possible.

telling new players the alt+F4 gag is just one of those "rights of passage" sort of thing. In every online flightsim I've played, there was always something like that. My personal favorite was the ESC+OJ1 trick in AW. That would flood your text buffer with the joystick input numbers and you wouldn't be able to use the radio until you turned it off. Yeah, I'm a salamander :c)

Yeah I laugh as well at some of the "sincere" help that's offered at times to the unsuspecting. It seems to happen mostly on Friday and Sat nights with I'm sure the aid of internal fluids which seem to erode the pranksters moral fiber!
But you know usually someone pipes in to set the poor newb straight and warns them not to do it.
It will probably always be this way so I'm sittin' back and enjoying the show, after all they SHOULD only fall for it once!

Heh, the memories...
Another good one was saying you could check another pilot's score in flight by typing ESC Pilot + pilot's cpid. Two seconds later channel one was flooded with "wtf, something just made me bail out" messages hehe.

I remember my first run in with Alt F4, back in AW (3, iirc).
Jazz of the USMC lured me into it. I don't recall what he used to bait me, but I remember looking at my desktop saying "WTF? Hell, I've been had!". Yeah, it's old, yeah, it's irritating, but it is funny, and it will always be that same goofball stunt to me. Perspective. Never lose it. This is a game, and it should be about fun.
In game? Yeah, its a rotten thing to do intentionally. Recreational use, however, I must endorse.

I think the BKs will eject you from the squad after admiting this, muahahahahaha :lol

What would be really cool is if ALT-F4 would have the expected effect on the jerk that tells a newbie to use it.
-
Well I was one of those jerks that would do that alt f4 trick on newbies, then once they came back Id end up really helping them. Never had one actually angry, they laughed pretty hard sometimes.
And I use alt f4 myself when my FR drops when Im on a cv, and it takes half an hour to move the mouse an inch, I just alt f4 and then come back in.

No one is dead, I was drunk and misread an email 5 or 6 years ago. I don't remember this, so apparently it's true.
