Title: Taking a break
Post by: Hajo on June 22, 2005, 12:20:56 PM
Yup....getting bored.  And in this post I'm not going to criticize anyone for their style of gameplay.  It's their 15 dollars and everyone should be able to spend their time here in the way they wish.  Horde flying...1K alt Bombers....dive bombing B24s etc.  All who are doing that have paid for their right to play that way. So as I said before....I am NOT criticizing anyones gameplay.

I am going to explain the way I like to play....and circumstances I've run into in the last 4 to 6 weeks playing Aces High.  I am not taking my ball home so others can't play...and I'm not going to belittle others for the way they chose to play.

I like a good fight....from 1 on 1 to even 10 on 10!  Nothing better then a good turnfight BnZ slugfest amongst evenly matched numbers and a mix of planes that turn, climb and roll well.  I prefer...and I say "I" meaning that this is what I like to do is fly a craft that usually is not the bomb in speed or maneuverability.  I like a challenge.  Can't run from a fight usually but have to stay and fight it out.

Instance 1)  Have a nice four and four going.  Planes reupping and coming back into the fight.  Other players notice.....and instead of a four on four it becomes a 15 to 20 on four.  Doesn't matter which country, it appears all sides guilty.  Horde flying isn't monopolized by any one country....all 3 do it.  To prove it just check your map.  On big maps....usually at most 3 HUGE fights (Hordes) and scattered milk running and Jabos.  75%to 85% of the map is a complete waste at all times usually,  from my point of view anyway live in the East.

Numbers rule.  Just like in war usually the biggest most consistant sized horde will win...90% of the time.  Can't beat Math as a statistic verifier.  Just look (all countries) you have the biggest dar bar in the grid chances are great you're the winner.
Again....this imho....all pay to play, and all have the right to play the way they want.

Instance 2)  I've seen more chogs up doing nothing but HO.  Now a HO shot is a legitimate shot!  But once they miss the HO it's off to the races after you've reversed them.  I've seen more timidity and even heard over VOX how if ya bail before yadada yadadaa you don't give the enemy a kill.  In the last week alone after reversing and catching upto an enemy craft I've had them bail 4 times to avoid being killed.

Instance3) Apar and myself and a few others went to the DA just to get some one vs. ones, try out different planes etc.  And guess what??? You guessed it some jerk shows up vulching the fights and the runway.  Sooooooo

I love evenly matched fights...don't care what the opponent flies just evenly matched fights 2 on 2,  7 on 7  etc.  that's where the exhilaration of combat flying simulation is at it's best.  5 on 25 don't get it.  Don't like being part of a horde and I don't like flying into one either.  Don't care what alt anyone flies, hell fly 80K for all I care just come down and fight and don't bring 862 of your friends.

The Lord sayeth " And the Hordes begat Hordes"  Often times on big maps the only option of flying a fighter is flying into a Horde.  Again you pay your money if that's how you chose to play well play it that way.  I pay mine also!  And I miss the evenly matched encounter, the ! to an opponent or group of opponents whom you've bested...or who have bested you.

Remember their is no amount of ACM that will get you home when you're alone and fighting 10 to 15.  The fight between two evenly matched groups usually ends up being one sided so others can dive in and pick up a few freebies while the others have worked hard for their victories.  All 3 sides do it. Bish, Rook, and Knit.  I know the juvenile minds in the group will point fingers in this post...they did etc.  I said all 3 sides do it.

So taking a break....not quitting....TOD sounds like my cup of tea so to speak.  goal oreinted and team oriented without the Horde from the CapitalOne Bankcard group commercial diving in on your evenly matched fight and stealing a kill or 2 from those who have been turning, burning , and stalling for the last 10 minutes.

That's my idea of fun gameplay....yours' may differ and I do respect that.

i do agree hajo, im exactly the same as you, and the ma really turns me off sometimes. i wish that EVERYONE could organise it so we all decide to fly in a small area and have a HUGE bish knit rook furball, like a real battle, thatd be cool. but, oh well. i dont really see that theres any need to quit, just find a mate and have some good fights with good friends, that out to set u straight :aok

but, your descision, not mine. hope tosee you back soon bud

"A simple "I quit" would've sufficed"

As a day-1 player, and one who's been a positive contribution to the AH community during that time, I think Hajo easily earned the privelege to post as he has.

Be good Hajo!  You echo many of my sentiments too.

Look forward to seeing you on the "TODside of the moon!"  :)

Hey, before you go, try this:

Load up as much fuel as you can and go to an undefended field awayfrom everything else.  Eventualy, someone will notice and try to deffend.  Let them get some alt and get out of the ack and you will get your 1 vs 1 or 2 or 3.  Even if they come up in numbers you will atlist get in a couple of fights.  Sometimes, it will be the same 2 guys upping over and over and yo get to have some fun fighting for a while.

Just don't get shut down by the first guy upping, :lol

i do agree hajo, im exactly the same as you, and the ma really turns me off sometimes.

Here are some things that turn me off:

1. Girls named "Fred"
2. hub in a g-string (Have pics, will sell. 50 cents OBO)
3. The wife rolling over in the middle of the night, kissing me softly and muttering "I'm pregnant"
4. Nursing home water aerobics classes
5. girls with more hair on their back than me
6. Waking up in a strange room, naked, not knowing where you are only to look up and see the words: NEVERLAND RANCH out the window.

Just had to get that off my chest. :D

Hajo, hope to see you back man.

Hajo i WILL be waiting.

Do not think you can walk away with a kill on me without the chance of getting 5 back !    :D

But to be serious i feel your pain, I have been there.
Altering goals can sometimes help. But when you have played AH as long as we have sometimes a break, preferably your wing or fuselage can help :)

Hajo but one last thing.

I WILL BE WAITING !

Hi Hajo i got the same prob as u i guess.Ii had 4 weeks vacation and just played a few sorties. The gameplay might be the same as 4 years ago. But it doesn't feel like.

Somehow some offline sorties in FB attract more now.

TOD might be refreshing i hope

Hajo, I agree with 95% of what you said. As Neil Young once said, "better to burn-out then to fade away."

Go get a life and enjoy the summer. The hordes will all be here when you decide to return. Who knows...maybe TOD will be in place too.

In any event, I've always considered you to be one of the true gentlemen of this game and wish you a fond and happy hiatus. Keep thinking good thoughts for the Cleveland Browns next season.

If you want a evenly matched fight open a room in the H2H.

There are some good fights there.

No Horde, the room the way you want it.

Plenty of targets.

It's Free99.

Come and experience the evenly matched fights.

Yeah, I enjoy H2H most times I'm in htere. And if I find myself not liking the game, I can usually find another room open. Generally, lil romeo hosts a pretty good anything-goes ffa room, with unlimited ammo and gas. Or, if I'm in the mood for realism, there are a couple of those rooms too. Can't recall names though. In short, you can find almost any thing ya want in H2H, or you can host yer own.

Sounds like you need too stop by H2H,alot of people don,t like it because it only has 8 players, but the fights are always even and it's alot more quiet.

Hiya Hajo

Welcome to the sidelines! It's nice and cosy out here. Sorry you're no longer finding what you want in AH. I empathise entirely.  I've been on the sidelines for about a year. I miss being part of a WW2 flightsim, with all the social spin-off that goes with it. But I have not missed the AH-MA in the slightest.

I'm hoping TOD will rejuvenate my interest (and yours too). But it seems that folks these days just want an arcade shoot-em-up. I don't know if TOD will succeed. I'm told that there will be a multitude of WW2 sim seeking punters who will want to play it, but where they'll come from I do not know. Not from the MA by the looks of things.

Sorry to see you go HAJO. Unfortunately what you stated has become the nature of the game. It's an ever evolving entity - who knows what it will become or how it will change. I agree - a lot of HOing going on lately but "Fight Fire with Fire."  No matter what type of fight develops - adapt, improvise and overcome!

Have fun recharging the batteries
