Emule.
Got some interesting stuff from there that is almost forgotten now, I am really into 60s-70s music and finding some bands is a real problem. The trick is to search for a band name with a file type set to "archive", you usually get complete collections. Looks like I am one of no more then a dozen Russians who have a complete collection of bands like Kinks ;)
If this post may be considered to be an instruction to "copyright infrigement" - please feel free to edit or delete it. An attitude to music is deep in culture, in the 80s we didn't have any Western LPs and used to copy tapes for each other, like lending good books. And even now I can't find some records in stores, only in P2P networks.

The kinks are cool. I used to d/l a lot of music, now i go to the music library instead and just copy the cd's i get loaned for 50p or a pound. I think they started to suspect what i'm doing since the time i returned some cd's after a couple of hours to get some more.:D

Bitorrent.

i use Kazza Lite
is Kazza lite still safe to use?
back then it is hailed as the most cleanest of all P2P programs.

AFAIK, you're safe from spyware, but not the RIAA.
-
The last virus I got was from using P2P to d/l some music. It was Kazaa. Nevar again!

Wow I have a great progie to use.
ITS CALLED PAY FOR IT.
Ok that's the pot calling the kettle black. I'd say bit torrent it's fast secure, last I heard. If you do use some of these P2P share programs (Kaza, limewire, bearshare, morpheas, ect) make sure you have "IP Guardian" (google for it) it warns you against certain IP addrs probing you and doesnt allow a connection. If you are looking for the safest way to D/L music without paying for it get yourself a usenet account.
other than that D/L music has gotten real cheap. Unless you are looking for something rare/hard to find get a napster subscritpion.
(I don't D/L music anymore, that I do pay for now)

Well, who'll sell a CD of a band called "Blue Oyster Cult" here in Russia?... :rofl
I don't need any Britney Spears or other pop chewing gum. Damn, buyng an Atomic Rooster CD here is almost impossible. Even bands like Kinks are absolutely unknown and not imported or printed by CD-pirates.
Want to get a certain 1971 Pink Floyd bootleg? Try buying it.
It's like sat TV. One of my friends, who has a 2m dish, wanted to subscribe to some French TV broadcaster. He e-mailed them, and received an answer that "they don't provide services in Russian Federation because it's impossible to tune to their transponder". After that he watches their transmitions using a hacked card. Is he a criminal? I don't think so.

I use bearshare. I used to use Kazaa but it has to much spyware and viruses.

SoulSeek.
It's free and no spyware crap type stuff.
Limewire too.

I pay for mine through alllofmp3 dot com. It's a pay-as-you-go site. I sent them a $15 paypal transfer sometime last year and I'm still downloading music.

AllofMP3? A Russian service offering any song for $0.01?
LOL!!!
They got sued recently. The Moscow district court decision was fantastic: "According to Russian Federation laws - they don't sell any material stuff, while copyright infrigement can only be found in selling material media, so - no criminal act detected.".
I love our judicial system.

I bet you do.

Yep, that's the one. I was assured it was a legal operation, even read about it in Money magazine I think. Am I going to cyber-jail?

You make a bargain in Russian Federation, and if Russian court said your bargain is legal - then it's legal.
Fortunately - there are still different countries with different laws. If you marry a girl who's only 17 in the Ukraine - there will be no reason for international "human rights abuse" lawsuit :D
But if you don't want to feed crooks - IMHO it's better to use P2P networks. At least in this case you share and not only leech. It's a real way towards Communism, and I like it.

second hand music stores /pawn shops ect .. great place to get cheap cd's
im suprised the riaa hasnt went after them yet .. (ive bought over 200 cd's that way)
-
I use Rhapsody. Pay 10 bucks a month, I can download and listen to unlimited music on my PC. If I want to burn them to a CD, its 99 cents for most songs, some for 49 cents. Plus every so often they run promotions where you get so many songs free for what you buy.

TY for the reponse and sound advise,
gonna try a few!
As far as paying for music or a service, thats a consideration.
-Off subject-
BTW you notice there are a lot more GOOD bands and touring for longer periods and to more venues?
That is the effect of the intardnet and its free music.
:aok
